Since 1033Forest's account is only 94 days old, I highly doubt that was what happened. There must have been at least two users in question, though, since his raw rating dropped by 10 points overnight.

Seriously though if your rating drops immensely then we have a problem. A 0 to 9.9 point drop shouldn't cause any alarm. It's fine, just keep being a good member and the points will come back.

Also, 1033Forest you're above 50 so you shouldn't have to worry.

this reply is a train-of-thought kinda deal so excuse me if it's a bit scatterbrained:

it's a small drop. probably something not to worry about. especially not something to be hurt over. that's just taking things too seriously and that's coming from me of all people so you know shits real. when people intentionally come to plummet your rating just because they don't like you, that's when there's some cause for concern. i've been through that and it's not cool. i know people who've been through that, and it's not cool. but it's the internet and people are pricks and the only people we should worry about is ourselves.

ie., wait until you get into my shoes and lose ~100 points in the span of a week because some people with too much power don't quite grasp how to handle you

really, as long as we're stuck with this flawed system, we should at least have mods on the ball when it comes to unjust and unfair ratings. because whether people want to admit it or not, the rating system on here is a big thing. it's that number haunting over everyone that holds more power than it should, and one person having a bad day can manage catapult that number into oblivion. it's intimidating to the newer users, and annoying for people who've been here for a minute.

personally i'd be all for a different way of rating (rating posts individually instead of having an easy-to-manipulate score) but i vaguely recall alan saying that the rating system is just too ingrained in the site and the engine to have anything really done about it.

let's just be excellent to each other and stop being children by taking our aggression on internet numbers, and voice our concerns and opinions and issues like big boys and girls.

I wouldn't be surprised that if/when this magical v6 version comes we'll do away with ratings altogether. It seems like a thing that's easier to straight-up remove with a new version of the site then attempt to phase out.

However, when it DOES happen I would like these points to be worth something, so if Alan gets round to it, I would like my 900 or so points converted to a prize of real-world value.

I think I'll have his lung.
