How many rounds are left?
J (files already provided), K (sending files this week) and L.
So three more rounds.

Heavy I kinda like the easy chart here. I do feel like the 182 BPM feels too fast. I think you could've pulled off something at half BPM like 妖隠し -あやかしかくし-. 91 BPM (or maybe even 60.66...BPM seems more fitting for this song.)

I also think so. Actually when I was starting to work on this file something felt really off. Later on I found out that it was the fact that BPM is speed up. And yes, true BPM of this song is exactly 60.(6) and it's on 3/4 instead of 4/4. It was really annoying to step it like that but still decided to leave it because so it was in Pop'n and also that's the way that submitter provided it to me.
I just want to quickly clarify that I mainly only set the BPM to 182 because pop'n says the BPM is 182, but I can understand why 91 BPM would work too (60.6, not so much IMO). I was actually debating about this myself before I submitted the song, but I decided to leave it at 182 and let the stepper decide whether they want to change it or not.
When I was given WILDSHOX!!, the BPM in the skeleton file was set to 130.5, but I decided to double it to 261 because BMS says the BPM is 261. Also, it felt to me like that was the true BPM of the song anyway (and I didn't want to deal with 24th and 32nd notes either).
My votes for this round will come later.

Lol, after 9 weeks, Gameoson actually wins. He's been close so many times.
Took long enough right?

werewolf howls. got points.
I've already won the round in my heart. <3
Guesses I made;
Hm... Not bad.
Anyway, looks like it's time for some J-Pop yet again with LOVE CLUTCH. I'll see what I can do with this one.
...oh, and one more thing;

I find this hilarious. Specifically that the banner is inverted (to signify that the skeleton is disqualified). It's just something that's probably never going to happen again, so... XP

It would be funny if brunobg24 submitted Flowlight. :P
I think he submitted TSUBAKI and the song I'm about to submit after finishing
and
(werewolf howls). I have this feeling that Telperion was the one that submitted Flowlight.
My other guesses are chewi for So Excited (feat. Khia), you (mf32892) or DDRDAIKENKAI for Sing, xXMokou98Xx for Wicked Irie, and Pandemonium X for Beautiful Beachfront Properties.
Anyway, I was going to make a video about Makaiso'ed Steampunk Frankenstein, where the doublesteps are marked, and how they can be fixed (just switching left and right with I think one exception), but my edit charts for that got corrupted and I've lost interest. I'll approach him about his next file if it also contains a lot of doublesteps.

Who is that who submitted mine? Not familiar with the icon. Looks like Cloudio from a while back.

+5 Pumpkin Panic [Telperion]
Best file of the contest so far, hands down.
+3 Xanadu [DDRDAIKENKAI]
Good file, just needs creepy graphics to rival 3rdMIX's graphics.
Challenge was a fun callback to DDR's Xanadu. Pretty cool that you used both Maniac and S-Maniac instead of just one or the other (though I guess you had to, given this cut is 30 seconds longer than DDR's cut).
+3 I Need to Know [Spork!]
I like what you were trying to do with those 64th gallops, but rather than use 64ths to accent the music why not 192nds? That way the notes would be even closer together but you'd still have that ""color note theory"" you wanted.
TECHNICAL JARGON INCOMING.
Right now the notes in the 64th gallops are 0.032 seconds apart. Assuming the player is using SM5 default timing windows, a Marvelous is 0.045 seconds wide, which means the player can hit the arrow 0.0225 seconds early or late. So if a player just hits those gallops as jumps (like I assume you intended for the player to do), there's probably going to be a Perfect slipped in there instead of a Marvelous. If you used 192nd gallops instead, the notes would only be 0.01 seconds apart, so there's a much smaller chance of that BS Perfect.
tl;dr The effect is pretty and fits the music but it screws up the player's score. I'm also being super nitpicky right now.
+2 For Sure [Lisek]
+2 SPLASH [mf32892]
Expert kinda confused me. Most of what technically should have been 24ths* were stepped as 16ths instead, which I can kind of understand. It's supposed to be an easier chart, seeing these weird 24ths could be daunting to someone at this skill level (though I don't really agree that you should shy away from 24ths just to make the chart easier for someone at this skill level to read). But then you DO use 24ths in some parts of the chart, which I don't understand. Half the chart wants to look friendlier, half of the chart wants to step the music accurately. Pick one or the other, not both. No prizes for guessing which chart I liked better.
*If you want to get SUPER TECHNICAL, this whole song is actually 3/64th swing, meaning all those 24ths (other than the long drills) really should actually be 64ths, similar to Clash from last year's shuffle. Most people probably won't be able to tell the difference though.
werewolf howls. [CuzcoBlocko]
When you said this was going to be SM5 only, I got really worried. Like "Oh geez, watch this be completely littered with nonsensical gimmicks just for the sake of being nonsensical gimmicks". The gimmicks I got instead were surprisingly very tasteful and pretty cool! BUUUUUUT I do think the steps themselves could have been improved quite a bit. The footswitches are fine. I get what you're going for with the rolls. But there's just so many damn opportunities for 16ths that are flat out ignored despite having some pretty tough 16th streams elsewhere in the file. If you're going to step hard 222 BPM 16th streams, you might as well go all out throughout the entire file, not just a couple of times. Most of the file is a lot easier than MAX 300, except for a few random blips of "LOL I'M AN X-SCALE 18" Try to be more consistent with the difficulty.
p.s. The "Recommended 1.5x speed" blurb isn't needed. Just let the player pick whatever speed is most comfortable for them. Personally I find 1.5x to be really slow. Though I did try 1.5x anyways and found a few more gimmicks that I wouldn't have seen at my normal speedmod (m600, or approximately 2.7x for this particular song)... Eh. I think most good players are gonna want to play at a much higher speed than 1.5x and so they're gonna miss out on a few of the gimmicks, which is a shame because the gimmicks were actually a nice touch.
Miami Sunset Drive [ledgam3r1279]
Umbrella [Nezemarth]
Cannot express how happy I am that this isn't the Rihanna song of the same name. So anyways, the steps… This is a weird one. At first I thought all those 8ths were actually incorrect, but I listened to the song again with the handclap turned on, and surprisingly those 8ths are actually pretty accurate (the first 8th jump is wrong though, that should have been a 12th). It just feels really weird to play. That's really the song's fault, not yours. This is otherwise a big step up from your previous files and the best file I've seen you make so far.
ReGENERATION [The Legendary DJXYZ]
A bit of a downgrade from TSUBAKI (it's not bad though), but then again there's usually only so much you can get out of TAG anyways.
Over the Skyblue [Quickman]
Lips are Movin' [usaminseijin]
EURGH, MEGHAN TRAINOR. ABANDON SHIP. The steps aren't bad, but… urgh, MEGHAN TRAINOR. Sorry to the submitter, I just really can't stand her.
(TO CLARIFY: I wouldn't have given points to this file regardless of the song. I take the steps into much higher consideration than anything else.)
love & cyber -french moga mix- [chewi]
OMG CHEWI MADE AN 18, WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO? Personally I feel it's closer to a 17 but that's besides the point, this is way harder than what I'm used to seeing you step! …It's also arguably a lot harder than the file should have been. I don't think this song was demanding a high level boss chart. Most of the streams felt really arbitrary as opposed to actually going with the music. Interesting file if only for the fact that you stepped it, but really this is the wrong song for stepping a 17/18.
One [Braeden47]
Billie Jean [SupremeX]
Normally I'm not a fan of Breathe Carolina, but this song was alright (though part of that may have to do with the fact that it's a cover and not an original song
). The steps, on the other hand, are far from alright. Like, wow, this had a lot more double-stepping than your usual work, and your usual typically has quite a bit of double-stepping.
Best file of the contest so far, hands down.

I'll probably make a challenge chart for werewolf howls. (and add doubles for all of my files) once the contest is over. I do not think one is necessary for TRICKL4SH 220, the only other "hard" file I have.
If you play at 1.5x, you may notice that around 1:27, when there's some sort of "glitch" effect in the music, there is an effect (warp gimmick) where more arrows suddenly pop up when there's only 5 arrows visible. I changed this part many times to assure it should be readable by a majority. The
chart has the chart seemingly stop and then the rest of the chart is revealed.
and
have no effect. I don't want to have my files be an unreadable mess of gimmicks. Actually, this would probably be a 14 on the X-Scale. Probably should've clarified that.
On that note, I'll probably get rid of the OT"P" gimmicks in Who What Who What. The song wasn't step-friendly, and I wanted to make it interesting, so that's kinda why I did those, and it didn't work as well as I hope
But yeah, if you want the steps to be harder, I'll make a harder chart once the contest is over, so look for that, I guess.
Oh, and by the way... There's something in standard you might not notice unless you use a really low speedmod (lower than 1x)... or look at it through edit mode.
Now to start playing through the files...

http://www.speedyshare.com/UfnmK/Remember-Remember.zipCheck how red notes behave when on 60.6. Especially visible on lower difficulty levels. BPM lowered to 1/3, fixed gap and added stop.

Huh. I had no idea Cloudio even entered ROUND H. Well at least he walks away with a few points for an awesome song submission. Thanks man. And also, Pandemonium submitted Porta Vista? That's too perfect.
@Cuzco- I know what you submitted for ROUND J
All of my yes.
My ROUND I submission was not stepped. It was "That Person's Name Is" from Bravely Default. It's going in the VGM Collection, but this time, at its true tempo of 312 BPM. I submitted it at 158 for ease of stepping.
Votes should be done by tonight. No commentary this time.
On Re:GENERATION- It was just kind of there with everything else. So far expecting a lot more HMs, but few points. Most of this round was pretty average imo, so I don't feel bad about it.
I've never heard of this "10-FEET". But if they're anything like SID, then ROUND J should go pretty swimmingly for me.
(Then finds out that there is room for x2 speed segments... hype intensifies)

The song kicks ass. I probably should have added a text file saying "do gimmicks yo", though. I'd love to see some for it.

Overall, I felt the same way DJXYZ did. I felt like none of these files stood out in a really good way. There were many that were decent, but not "OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!"
Billie Jean - Interesting-sounding cover of Michael jackson. Definitely was not expecting that metal/rock section towards the end.
chart is not great. Patterns are atrocious (i.e. really bad). You are clearly a keyboard oriented player. If you want to score well in this contest, you're going to have to learn to step pad files without doublesteps. Some of the really weird patterns include L-D-R-U-R (all 16ths) and the crossover 16ths (R-U-R-U-L and L-D-L-D-R)
For Sure - Song is somewhat catchy
It kind of bothered me that when you stepped the "ba-da pa pa ya da da da" parts, you neglected the 16th (the "ba"). Also, I think it was stepped a little too closely to the vocals. There were other things you could be going to here while the vocals are still playing tbh.
I Need To Know - Song is okay. That one part with the 4th___8th 4th ___8th 4th___8th 4th__16th__8th 4th reminded me of that one Spice Girls song "If You wanna be my lover" or whatever it's called.
Nice and easy. The spinning at the aforementioned section was alright in this case. I think the song might drift a little bit.
This was better now that I can actually see the rolls (limitations of playing your files on Beats mobile). What is the point of the rolls here? As far as I can tell, they're acting the same way as Freeze Arrows because they're so short. Aside from the seemingly pointless rolls, this chart looked pretty fun.
Lips Are Movin' - I like this song. I've known it for a while now. I think the cut could use a bit of work, but this cut is okay as it is as well. (Hi, submitter)
Well, I think you did a good job following the rhythms for the most part. There aren't any blatantly bad doublesteps, but some of the patterns are really repetitive. You overused "U-D-U-LR" and "D-U-D-LR". There are likely other overused patterns as well, but that's what I think of off the top of my head. Also, I think this is only an 8 at most. There's not much that warrants a 9, especailly for this short cut.
love & cyber -french moga mix- - This is not a very steppable song tbh.
I noticed that you pretty much copied and pasted a section from Valkyrie Dimension
/
(it's used in both, but mirrored and
added jumps). Also, I guess this could just be a personal taste preference of mine: When you first start adding the percussion 16ths in the background, I think after you use that rhythm the 2nd time, you should stop your stream on a 4th note instead of continuing for two more repetitions.
Miami Sunset Drive - Yes, I can finally hear this with good audio (instead of my phone).----Actually audio quality is still not that great
Personally, I think the charts could've started 4 measures earlier. What you have here, is pretty good. Mainly generealized rhythms once again (a stepping style I decided to use as well). It's good. I messed up a lot because I still had 1.25x from playing love and cyber
This is pretty nice, too.
One (original mix) - I almost feel like half BPM would fit the mood better,
Good job. I think this is one of your better charts. It's not perfect, but you're definitely cleaning up your act. Rhythm choices were pretty good. I was questioning your decision to start the chart where you did, but I'd probably have trouble deciding where to start in this song as well. There are a couple of doublesteps here and there, but they're not too intrusive. (I'll make an effort to point out specific measures and beats)>>>M25,B4-M26,B1; M32,B2.5-M32,B-3.5; M43,B1-M43B1.5; M49,B2-M49,B4.
Tbh, this is really only a 10 because of the 24th stream, which could have been left out if you had started the chart later. That 24th stream makes the whole chart feel really unbalanced. Other than that, the rest of the file was pretty good. However, I did notice that you stepped some 12th rhythms in
, but decided not to include them (completely) in
. I'm a little confused why that is.
Over the Skyblue - This song is so soft and calm sounding.
Not sure this needed 16th streams tbh. Yeah it was in the music and stuff, but it doesn't really fit the whole feel of the song. Other than the 16th trills/streams, this wasn't bad. Some patterns were slightly awkward, but most didn't require doublesteps, so they're not technically wrong (I think of The Heavens Above and some of the 4th- 16th - 8th patterns)
Pumpkin Panic -
It's alright. Not sure what's bugging me, though. There's something, though.
I like this much better. Some of the crossovers look kinda rough, but I guess that's part of being a hard file. I wasn't expecting to hit that bracket 3-note jump thing at the end. The mines were interesting, I guess. I think I would have liked a stream of 8ths in the section where you had the 8th jumps and the mines, but jumps are okay, too...
Re:GENERATION -
Not bad. There are some things I would've stepped differently, but one thing that stood out to me is that during the first slowdown, you kind of ignored the strong backbeat/percussion. I wasn't expecting much to go in that section, and I wasn't expecting a slowdown there either. I guess it works.
Saturday Night Groove - I'm having a bit of trouble liking the song.
Chart is pretty good. There is one section I think rhythms may have been misstepped (probably for a good reason)
I see you had fun with crossovers here, like you did with Porta Vista.
I think I liked this chart better as well.
Umbrella - This was definitely an interesting song to step. The figuring out when to use 8ths and when to use 12ths would have killed me.
I'm trusting that all those rhythms are correct. I cringe at the thought of scouring through this chart to figure out what is supposed to be what quantization. I think you did a pretty decent job here. There was one doublestep, but it's not that big of a deal.
werewolf howls - Hmmm... a Camellia song. Let's see how this goes.
Interesting attacks. I didn't know you could force "dark" at times. WIth the gimmicks I was able to 975k this with a Good Full Combo on a sightread. Was there something that made a note vanish (I think it was a UD jump)? Steps aren't too bad, though I do wish there were more 16ths going to the dubstep-ish parts. that's what Cammellia is all about, right?!?
Xanadu - Song is okay. Same artist as "Hopelessly Devoted To You", and I think this was in some DDR mix a long time ago. (Not sure we even have that simfile on this site. I heard there was like a Level 9 chart for it)
The chart is okay. It looks fun, but it doesn't seem to follow anything particularly closely, except for the ending strings and the "Xaaaaa-na du"s.
I was confused, why there were some long breaks in the beginning. Also wondering why some of the 4th-16th-8th rhythms were there. Going off of what Gameoson said, it seems like it's supposed to be a reference to something I don't understand. <<< Okay I looked up "Xanadu DDR" and found it. I found that difficulty spike ending on
. I don't think most of us younger people will understand the reference without researching it a bit. It doesn't give me nostalgia or anything, so that's not helping you much for me.
All this being said about references, the charts weren't outright horrible. You only "quoted" the decent parts and made your own chart for the atrocious parts.
Billie Jean - Interesting-sounding cover of Michael jackson. Definitely was not expecting that metal/rock section towards the end.

For Sure - Song is somewhat catchy

I Need To Know - Song is okay. That one part with the 4th___8th 4th ___8th 4th___8th 4th__16th__8th 4th reminded me of that one Spice Girls song "If You wanna be my lover" or whatever it's called.

Cat Cafe / Yoshi & Komono

I completely forgot cat cafes were even a thing until I got this song. What a weird idea. "Coffee and cats together! It'll become a hit!" It's even stranger that cat cafes actually did become popular. (/rambling)

My 1/2 time changes this week are not easily predictable, so I've marked them with mines. Every chart, even Beginner, will have 7 mines, placed as to not affect stepping, to mark the changes. Also, I'm going to make Expert a 10, because, you know, "10-FEET". It'll be a tough 14 on the X-Scale, like Samurai Shogun from Replicant D-ignition. Almost done, should be up tonight if I can make visuals.
