Yesterday, at a rating of 12, I asked a question. Nothing too specific, just regarding the BPM of a Track during its composition. Tomorrow, my rating was a shocking negative 26!

I love how whenever people whine about ratings here, it's usually the same people pity-rating the user back up. Like ratings matter.

idea for using the rating system: add one to their rating everytime they make a good post, take one away if they make a bad one, this encourages consistant quality inbetween posts

Even then, it would be a bad idea, since there's many different opinions and views as to what makes a post good or shit. Not only that, it's grounds for people to just jump on someone and ruin their reputation.

In general, the concept of the rating system is rather sketchy because, no matter how tender of a person you are, there will ALWAYS be people messing with it just based on opinions. It seems more like a popularity meter rather than a user approval meter these days... though I guess that doesn't apply to Quickman since he's pretty much the unofficial mascot of this place.

There's a lot of evidence that the rating system does more harm than good. I'm really curious to see what pros you guys (the admins) see in the rating system.
I'm not kidding, though, and I'm not trying to be a smartass. I genuinely want to see why you guys favor the rating system because I honestly don't see the point.

They could mention -100 bans as a form of quality control, but the forum's a lot less busy than it seems it was back when that was implemented, and the mods are seemingly better at killing forum cancer without the userbase having to nudge them in the right direction. The ratings have literally no purpose.
