Welp, I had a really quick playthrough of all of these through the day, and I do mean really quick, so sorry if my opinion is totally garbage and I should've given someone's file five points and an engagement ring. I only played the Expert and Challenge charts.

Beautiful Beachfront Properties +5 (This song will turn a lot of people off immediately, but I fucking LOVE Nero's Day at Disneyland and the challenge chart is one of my favies. This one needs more love than people are giving it.)

TSUBAKI +4 (Just like animu, I'm not really a dubstep guy, but goddamn if this chart wasn't fun.)

Porta Vista +4 (I didn't expect much from the song, but I actually found myself really enjoying this one. More the Challenge chart than the Expert chart, though.)

Flowlight +2 (Everyone and their mom knows I'm not an animu man, but at least Cuzco managed to give it a chart to make it interesting for me.)

You see, I thought that I was ready to jump back in after returning from Europe from a month, unable to step anything, but life was like "bitch, please", and slapped me with all sorts of stuff while trying to get re-acclimated to normal life again; work, friends & family, etc. =\ oh well. Hopefully life won't be crazy this week now that I'm pretty much back to normalcy.

Haven't listened to what I got yet becasue I'm at work with no headphones. -_- but we'll see what I got later.

As for whether or not I submitted Sing, well, I guess we'll see next Monday huh?

Oh. I just realized that this song has a REALLY irregular part somewhere 30 measures in. Heh heh.

I'm going to enjoy making this file, even if it fails.

What noteskin do you use? I personally like the 3.9 setup where...

4ths: Red
8ths: Blue
12ths: Purple
16ths: Yellow
24ths: Magenta
32nds: Orange
48ths: Cyan
64ths: Green

But on Stepmania 5...

4ths: Red
8ths: Blue
12ths: Green
16ths: Yellow
24ths: Purple
32nds: Teal
48ths: Pink
64ths: Grey
192nds: Silver

The only exception is the Easy/Exact noteskins, which use the 3.9 setup, but the problem with those is they blend in with at least 10 of my custom background movies, mines are small circles that can easily be overlooked, and it's really really hard to tell apart freezes and rolls. So I am interested in as to how those make those 32nds in 魔カい造ﾖd STEAMPUNK Frankenstein show up as orange instead of teal and have a non-ambiguous noteskin.

I modified SM5's pre-packaged noteskins for my own personal use to follow the old 3.9 color scheme instead of SM5's color scheme. It's pretty simple to do, it's just a matter of editing the noteskin's .png images in GIMP to your liking. If you want I can send you an edited version of the default SM5 noteskin.

Additionally there's also other SM5 noteskins besides the ones you mentioned that follow the old color scheme. A quick Google search for SM5 noteskins should give you a few options.

Oh... Ah, you can do that. I thought it required some lua editing (something like color values), and I didn't wanna do that after Nezemarth said something about modifying the default noteskin and ruining SM5 on his computer somehow. Thank you for telling me about that.

I can do the mod myself, no worries.

Anyway, I'm going to make another analysis of another file that has problems. Specifically, the stepper has been consistent with these problems and I'd like to approach them personally and notify them how to avoid them in the future.

Sigh. Stepmania was an ass and completely deleted my edit charts when I attempted to record them. This'll have to wait, unfortunately.

I'm not exactly sure why the first 15 seconds of the song were cut out, but I can deal with it for now. This was definitely a veto well spent, I'd say.

Yeah, if you don't know anything about lua files or the metrics files and whatnot, you really shouldn't touch them.

As a general word of advice, if you plan on making changes to anything, always make a backup copy of the original so you can go back to the original if you need to.

While I will not be including them in my file for this week, something I wanted to ask about are lifts. Not a single file in this competition so far has them. I was thinking about being the first (if I get a song that calls for it), but first I want to ask if there's a reason they're being avoided. The charts that have you need to lift your feet after a freeze arrow ends substitutes mines instead.

Oh, and by the way, my file is going to have to be SM5 exclusive. You'll see why once I upload it.

This is pretty much why I find lifts to be mostly pointless. Anywhere that you could ever want to put a lift, you can almost always use mines instead and accomplish almost the same thing (the main difference being that lifts judge you on accuracy, just like any other note). In the few files I've ever seen use lifts, they were typically used pretty awkwardly. I've experimented with lifts in the past and those files came off as awkward too, so I just got rid of them.

You could try to use lifts if you wanted, but I personally don't recommend it.
