Okay... for whatever reason, someone with a high rating power (yes, I figured out who) gave me a -5 for bumping a 4 year thread, but the thing is, it was correctly adding to the topic (BEST Username you've ever seen) because it really was. If I didn't think it would be a helpful addition I wouldn't have posted in it. :/ I feel as though, maybe a -1 or -2, but NOT a -5 would've sufficed.

What else should he have done? Start a new thread? That provides no logical advantage over bumping an old thread that does the exact thing. Besides, this bumping has caused quite a few people to add to the thread, so it's not like a pointless bump.

This. It's scared off quite a few people (myself included the first account I had here) and makes people with 200+ ratings LOOK like they are really good contributors, which is true for the most part, but some of them (yes, I know a few examples) are asses to the newer or innocently confused users. To be honest, I'm not even sure why this system was implemented in the first place, and I'm not the only one who thinks this

The entire rating system is rather puzzling because you never know who's changing your score. My rating bumped upwards to 70 a while back, but then plummeted down to the 60s that same day. Since then, my rating has been 68, with the decimal rotating around every day or so. Rating Limbo, if you will.

I +5, -5, then restore my original rating for people to scan who has me in the positives and who has me in the negatives. I can think of 6 people on the top of my head that has me in the negatives (there may be more, though), but I will not say their names to avoid unnecessary fights and whining.

I also want to bring up the idea that people should really just be donating to the site for ftp space if they want hosting tbh.

The 49 and under category is a shining example of why using ratings as a way to allow for hosting is utterly pointless.
