Can someone sum-up the Switch's main appeals and annoyances? Price?

Appeals
It's Nintendo, you know how it is with Nintendo.
Console-worthy games on the go.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms is always welcome.
A new Shin Megumi Tensei!
New Zelda looks neat, I guess.
NO MORE HEROES 3.
Annoyances
it's Nintendo, you know how it is with Nintendo.
No doubt Europe will be skullfucked when it comes to this as usual.
Battery life on the short side - could be a deal breaker for some.
Whoring out those first party games and yet no F-Zero or Metroid yet. BUT HEY HEARD YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED MARIO IN A WHILE
Controller is a step up from the WiiU and still about five million steps behind the pack.
Street Fighter 2? Really?
$300 when the PS4 is like 200 now and you can probably find it cheaper, good luck selling that to anyone but fanboys.

The only thing from the presentation that comes to mind that I didn't like was 'Paid Online'. That struck a bad chord with me.

Well, the two other major platforms also have it, and there isn't much that can be said about it anymore.

"Grade A KONMAI Quality" |
My annoyances are the prices of the extra accessories. $70 for two Joy-Cons or 1 Pro Controller is insane. $90 for another docking unit is crazy though it has a processing unit inside so a little easier to swallow.
I'm concerned not about the fact you have to pay for online, but how much it will be. Already paying for PS Plus is fine and you get great games here and there but adding another online service on top of that will be tough. Free NES/SNES games is cool I guess but hopefully down the road they'll up that to free or even discounted VC games from maybe GBA, DS, Wii, etc....not holding my breath though.
$300 seems about right, though it would be nice if there was a TLoZ bundle for like $325 or something. We'll see.
Overall excited, but cautious.

"Blank for now." |
I remember during the early days of the Wii U, people complained about the online functionality and quality. I saw multiple suggestions that Nintendo should change to a paid subscription service so they can actually keep their online services maintained. For some reason, I'm expecting something cheaper than PS+, but what do I know, that was the only subscription service I ever used and I haven't renewed it for years.
GOOD LORD. Probably tangential, but when I do the math, I think that prices the Switch itself without the Joy-Cons and dock at $140. I guess that puts it at about the price range of a 3DS, if I squint hard enough. Looks like I won't be getting a pro controller anytime soon. At least I won't really have to worry about the dock, since I only have one TV in the house.
And before I leave: Joy-Con? More like

You... you do realize that the PS4 at launch was like 400$ with no games as well, right? And as we all know, not even Sony fanboys flocked back then to get their game-less shiny brick at launch...

I mean it had the double hitter of the big two FPS games of the time(Call of Duty/Battlefield), a new Killzone, Outlast, Infamous, Wolfenstein...
Hm. That's seems to be more than "zero" in the "amount of games" box. Oh, wait, you don't play those games, so they don't exist! They're all gray boring garbage! Nintendo is the only company that knows how to have FUN with games anymore! Grumble grumble!
And it doesn't really matter if the PS4 was that expensive at launch, the point is Ninty have been far too late to sell a current gen console at that price because both the major competitors are much cheaper and already have a decent library to them. Maybe if they'd either waited until the next generation so that all three were releasing at the same time so the prices were more comparable or even or if they'd simply not waited so long as to let the competition get a year head start, it wouldn't be a big issue. But now it's like... this is less powerful than a cheaper option that already has a year's support ready to go upon purchase. They've already handicapped themselves from the off. Going to take something super special to get it going, and I don't think the portable thing will do it just yet. If you wanted that, why wouldn't you get a DS or PSP?
p.s; i'm an Xbox guy so you can't throw the "bias" thing at me
p.p.s; this was actually better than expected but if you buy this at launch, you're fucking insane. once the price drops to like two hundred it'd be a viable purchase

"free nes/snes games" (despite being behind a subscription) is a feature in 2017? I think i've played free nes/snes games on platform that isn't nes/snes as early as when the kid that was me got his first own computer

Plus, it's Region-free! Well at least, I will import games from Japan for sure!

@Quickman
Aside from the fact that my remark was a assumption of the bundle-only offers at launch (which yeah, there wasn't a PS4 launch-with-games bundle either), you ruled out yourself in a corner by saying that "You don't play them, therefore they don't exist for you!" spiele. Because yes, you are 100% right- they don't exist for my shelf space because I don't care for them. PERIOD! Nothing more subtext than that doesn't mean that their release is unacknowledgeable just because I won't buy them.
It doesn't matter whether me or you or anyone else participating in the console gaming talk comes with any kind of bias towards any kind of selection of games, the one thing that each of the current console manufactures truly cares to do is to find a way to keep the kind of people that are supporting their products with cash and how to build on from that position. That's true for Nintendo's weird gimmick/platform obsession as much as it's true for the general line of Sony/Microsoft's PC-like high specs and grey shooter/1st person adventures fetishes as well as the indie developer foot-licking from all three parties after the Steam explosion. They see what they manage to sell the most, therefore they keep on going on that direction.
Here's also a side note, slick: I too -like you- am interested in hearing about the Switch due to a really niche game series coming to the region-free town (Taiko no Tatsujin), but guess what? I still not deem the launch window package to be appealing enough of a Day 1 purchase.
(See? Accusing others of fanboyism or other past/present/future biases in gaming arguments is not a reliable source of topics to keep on a logical conversation.)

How did I rule myself out in a corner? The fact that you don't like games like Call of Duty don't mean that they aren't mega successful, something that Nintendo haven't been since the Wii U came out. And you literally said "the PS4 at launch had no games". Which is a retarded statement.
Oh, and I didn't say "you don't play them, therefore they don't exist for you". I said "you don't play them, therefore they don't exist". Again, because you said it launched with no games. Don't try to take what I said and just subtly spin it into something different. Point still stands. Stronger console with more games is cheaper than weaker console with less games, and therefore less people will buy it than they would if A)it came out earlier, B)it was cheaper, C)it was more powerful. I don't care what the PS4 launched with, frankly. Fact of the matter is it's going to be much cheaper than the Switch when it comes out, more advanced, and more stocked with games. It's a bad time to launch a console in the "current gen". I will continue to stand by the idea that the only people who will buy this at $300 are stupid or fanboys, because I don't see how a smart person would find it worth the cost.
agreed with this, too
append; I like how the USF2 trailer says "the SNES was our battleground" despite the Mega Drive version being better and the arcade version trumping them both when it came to SF2 lmao
and it has Dramatic Battle? WHY
and it expects you to use the joy-con split thing for local multiplayer despite them only having four buttons? WHY

I'm liking what I'm seeing with games coming out for it. Splatoon 2 I'm hyped as fuck for and it's so nice to see a new Mario game that's not New Super Mario Bros for the hundredth time. BotW I'll likly get for the Wii U since I already have one. I will say $300 with no game in the box is a pretty hard sale for me along with not knowing how much the online pay will be. Low battery life outside the dock is also kind of a bummer. I'm likely not getting this day one but I'll likely be getting one during the Summer or Winter. There's enough here to convence me to get a Switch and it's good to see that Nintendo is at least trying to start strong out of the gates. That was something they really screwed up on with the Wii U.

And I am the only one around here who mis-represents what others say for a different take.
For the one I pulled out, though, my apologies.

^ Hence why I have apologized for mine.
You should do it too for your attempt, but if you lack the humilty to do so, I can live with that.

WOAH WAIT A MINUTE THAT'S DISGAEA 5 ON NINTENDO SWITCH
WE HAVEN'T HAD A DISGAEA GAME ON NINTENDO SINCE DISGAEA DS
I dunno, that's an even better starting lineup than the Wii U. At least, we won't have that big "new title winter" the Wii U had at the beginning of its lifespan.

I don't see No More Heroes on here. Wonder if it's slated for 2018 instead...
