I just had a thought. It's a really long shot that'll be passed off as too optimistic, but hear me out?
Don't you guys think that it's a bit strange that KONAMI would wait until Summer 2016 to produce and help distribute DDR 2014-16 to American arcades? You would think that they would produce them a bit sooner.
What if THIS is the game we're gonna get?

To be honest that's what I'm thinking, RGTM, but whether it's going to be the game that America gets (and Europe doesn't) isn't really the question, it's whether it's actually just going to be the same old shit. I guaran-damn-tee America will get some terrible Western licenses for the casual crowd, whatever the case.
I DEFINITELY think this is going to be the DDR we get in America. And in terms of licenses, I'd like "Uptown Funk" to be one of them, mainly because I had a dream that it was one of the licenses.
But what if we end up getting the same licenses as Japan and no American pop songs?!

Uptown Funk is probably real expensive to license, particularly because it's the most popular song of this decade. I think most of the licenses would be cheap, semi-popular songs. That being said, DDR successfully obtained Bad Romance and Baby, I guess anything is possible.

I have a feeling the licenses may end up being lots of Justin Bieber as well. I'm expecting to see "What Do You Mean?"

I think if there's any shot of international licences that would go on a global release, you'd probably have to look at the ones around 2010-2011? X2's ones were at the latest from about 2006, weren't they?

Yeah, the only companies that can get those are titans like Ubisoft (Just Dance) or companies really experienced with contract negotiations like Harmonix (Dance Central & Rock Band). Konami has neither that leverage nor that experience, especially after having been 3 years out of the American licensing business, 6 years if you only refer to arcade US licensing.

I'm just expecting the same game with some of the licenses taken out, if the last location test is anything to go by.
If the game gets a North American release at all, that is.
(would love to see some Monstercat, though)

At a quick glance, I read that as "Captain Jack".

Konami is just fine with licensing. Judging by past AC licenses we might get 1 or 2 indie/alt-dance songs, a staple trance or club song, and a stereotypical early 90's dance track (we got MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice, the next logical choice is Marky Mark's "Good Vibrations").

This is all assuming Konami cares enough to give the west exclusive content...

It's good to know Konami thinks DDR is worth keeping alive.

Totally - it's so iconic! All this time, we were so worried that it was going to be Dead Dead Revolution forever...

I am wondering the same thing. Maybe they'll bring back all of the ones from the X series? Or create new characters.

And yes, we need Londell Taz Hicks to be the announcer again! Because that guy was the best announcer we ever have.
no we don'tlondell had his time
for 8 years, he had his time
it's time to move on
Psh, we obviously know who should be the next announcer: Tim Kitzrow of NBA Jam/NFL Blitz fame!
"100 Combo, BOOMSHAKALAKA!"
"He. Could. Go. All. The. WAAAY- FULL COMBOOO!"

"On ZiV I'm like Princess Diana" |
Very excited to finally see DDR get a new version. This announcement has made their new push for DDR in the West make a lot more sense to me and has also gotten me excited for the songlist. I'm especially appreciating the headline artist selection list, CUTIE CHASER and its remix are among my favorite songs in the entire DDR series, so I'm very excited to see the CLUB SPICE alias get a random revival. Given their new push for the game in the West, I would love to see a license list that has a lot of diversity like X2's mix of popular Japanese and Western music with some Dancemania throwbacks and a splash of trance and eurobeat.
I recently played a round of DDR for the first time in over a year and have to say I really miss playing it, but with how little activity DDR has gotten, there's been little motivation for me to follow anything DDR related for the past couple years beside the occasional interesting song additions. It made me a bit sad because I remember years ago devoting so much of my free time to the game. Above all, I really loved doing reporting on the game and translating a lot the staff and artist blogs as it really made me feel like I was contributing to the community. When I saw the announcement this morning, it really got me more excited for the series than I have been for a long time. I'm really looking forward to it and hoping to see a lot of the old DDR fans I used to talk to online
