I really hope PS2. I don't want to go out an buy a Japanese PS3 and IIDX controller just for one game.
Unless they finally decided to give America another chance with IIDX.
That'd be amazing.

Japanese PS3 isn't required. PS3 games are region free, although you would need to get a new IIDX controller should they release one for PS3.

PS3 games are universal, so you won't need a Japanese one ^^;

Then I want it to be for PS3. ![Smile](../emoticons/icon_smile.gif)
I didn't know they were universal!
Now I have to go buy a bunch of the Japanese games.
(I also wouldn't mind buying a IIDX controller if I were to start saving money. I'd love to have one of those Arcade Style ones.
)

All the disc games are universal, and all the Playstation Store games can be played on any console, as long as you can buy them from the store (Japanese credit card, Japanese PSN gift card, or get a friend who already has the game to share it with you for free).
The only thing that isn't universal so far is DLC songs for games like Rock Band. Some songs from the American store don't work on a european copy of the game (or vice-versa).
There were rumors a while ago that they were producing a new batch of IIDX controllers! If you're buying one before that, try and get an American controller (with a rounded edge around the turntable), rather than the original Japanese ones. They're much cheaper than an ASC, and unless you're really, really good at IIDX, an ASC won't be any better for you than an American controller.

So if Konami were to take advantage of DLC for SIRIUS (if they were to use PS3), I'd have to make a Japanese account and use a Japanese PSN Card to buy them?

Hm. That shouldn't be too hard. I'd have to find a way to either mooch off someone's account that's bought them or find a way to buy some Japanese PSN Cards.

Not really.
Anything you buy from the Playstation Store can be shared for free with 4 other people. When new things come out on PSN, most people have a group of friends (in real life or on a forum), who all pool together $2 each, to buy a new $10 game, and then they each get a copy!
For Rock Band, this means 5 of us each put in 20 cents, and each get a copy of a new song when it comes out. If IIDX or DDR ever have DLC songs, then it'll be very easy to find people here, or on other DDR forums, who'll want to do exactly the same thing. One of the 5 people will just buy a PSN card, and collect money from the other 4.

That's not how it works. Content can be activated on 5 consoles. It requires that you log in as the user that bought the content on the target console and download the content on that console. The maximum number of consoles you can activate your content on is 5 consoles.

^ This is exactly how it works.
One person makes a PSN account, buys the content, and shares his PSN account details with the 4 friends who chipped in to buy the games / songs. I don't see how that's different from my explanation o.O

Actually with DLC I don't think it matters if you're logged in with the account used to buy it. I gave my friend all my Burnout: Paradise DLC and he didn't have to be logged in as me to use it.

You didn't mention the methodology. You said "can be shared for free with 4 other people", which is a little misleading as that's not Sony's intention.
Sony allows you to activate content on 5 consoles, provided you log in with your PSN name and password on the console, they never said it's a method for sharing DLC.
You have to be logged in to initially activate and download it. After downloading it, you no longer have to be logged in with the account to use it.

The account only has to exist on your PSN for you to have a valid license to play the game / content. If you ever delete your friend's account, the license becomes invalid, and you can't load the content anymore.
To stop you just rampantly sharing everything with everyone you know, there's a cap of how many accounts you can have on your PS3, and thus a limit on how much shared content you can actually have licenses for. Most people have 1 Rock Band account, 1 Guitar Hero account etc, and only share with the same people every week, so that you don't just fill up your PS3 with different accounts.

Yeah, that's what I thought. That will make obtaining the DLC for IIDX games on PS3 a lot easier for a lot of us American users. ![Big Grin](../emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)
I really do hope this game is released.

@Tyma: Well I think you just didn't mention the part where all the purchasing and activating is done with one account. That is a interesting aspect to the PS3 I must say.
Although I really have a feeling they will just release it on the PS2. With the PS2 they can do a direct port with a bit of tinkering here and there with the interface, while on the PS3 they would have to recreate the UI to support full HD. Then you'd have to check for frame consistency and all the jazz.
And this is just talking about one of the affecting factors.

Yes, but Konami made a DDR for the PS3 so I don't see why the wouldn't give IIDX a chance on PS3 as well.
Just saying. I think they could make a nice game out of it, especially in HD.

Good point. This probably isn't the best place to discuss whether it's their intention or not for it to happen, I just wanted to let Insexertion know that it does happen, and that he won't be out in the cold, if they start putting out Japan-only DLC. It's already easy to get hold of Japan-only content from the PSN, and play them on EU/US PS3 consoles.

Well by doing so, we are supporting the release.

I believe it was outsourced to another team. DDR for PS3 looks and feels like a different game. But they've been adventurous so far, so I'm sure they can do it.
What could possibly go wrong?

I think Konami would do a good job at redoing the UI. I mean, look at the new AC screens for DDR and IIDX. They could take SIRIUS's UI from the AC and use it, couldn't they?
I mean, yeah, IIDX runs on Windows XP (at least the older ones did), but it's still used on nicer screens for more of a HD picture.
