Oh yeah, trivia time too. Note the stepcounts and max combo in this video. +5 to anyone who correctly figures out why it happens. (Yes, I figured it out.)

I has nothing to do with how many jumps there were. And in the version of SM I'm using, they count as two.
I mean, two for max combo, but one for gradings.

No, my sightread was on Extreme AC cab, and I got 49 Greats, 4 Goods, 4 Misses. Second try a couple hours later, and I got 46, 2, 0, 4. Best attempt so far was my third, on the ITG2 machine, with 23 Gr, 2 Wo, 1 Miss. The one in the video was my fourth, with 30 Gr, 1 Go, 2 M.
And you're wrong about the second thing: Freeze arrows don't affect the combo any differently than normal arrows, unless you're playing Pump, which I wasn't. Keep trying though.
BUMP: GSB: I got approximately halfway through the "Rage of the Winter" simfile in your r21 category. I'll upload the video when youtube is fully working again. And I did even worse on Meta Knight's Revenge this time. I won't be uploading that.
And for those who didn't figure it out: The oddity in my max combo for that video was because you get judged for the timing of a jump twice, but only the second one is added to the timing totals. If the first step of the jump is outside the great window, the jump breaks your combo, but if the second step is timed right, you can still get a fantastic for the jump. Thus, I ended up with less than max max combo, but nothing worse than a great.

Makes enough sense. So, kind of what you're saying, is that it's lag?

Makes enough sense. So, kind of what you're saying, is that it's lag?Lag is some delay between transmission and reception of input.
This is a delay between two distinct inputs. Essentially, it's the result of accidentally doing a jump as a very quick gallop, which on a fine-grained enough timescale, is impossible to avoid. One foot lands on one frame, just on the "Good' side of the "Good" - "Great" boundary, the other lands on the next frame, just on the "Great" side. In the version of SM I'm using, the Good step breaks my combo, but I get a Great for the jump in the final score totals.
I originally encountered this in an ITG guide where it was suggested as a strategy for dealing with hands and jumps in 16th streams. For a hand, just have the first step a bit early, and the third a bit late. For a quad (all 4 panels), do it as 2 jumps as close together as you can make them. For jumps in 16th streams (like Tell), do the two steps before the jump and the jump as a quick 24th trill (like Hardcore of the North's trills), and you should get 2 fantastics and an excellent.
Though if you're going to use your feet for hands, it's better to just have shoes that will bend in the middle, and step on the bracket with one or both feet, hitting two arrows with one foot. The Duk's Porn edit for Summer in Belize is full of 16th streams that are supposed to be done with this strategy.

Any attention-whoring activities lately?
And how's your knee injury coming along?

Um, I posted my recent attention whoring in the Dancing Wipeout Paradise thread.
My knee still hurts when I dance on it, but I had to work off some irritation tonight, so I went and smashed arrows anyway. Max 300 heavy doubles kicked my ass at measure 32, 3 times.

Is that where you're failing? If you haven't seen the chart ahead of time, you're in for quite a treat!
See, but posting it over there means that your giving attention to that thread and not this one. :C
When you get the time I'd like for you play my edit of .59
As it says in the description, it's nothing big; it's a moderate 7 footer.

I'd seen and studied the chart ahead of time, I just don't really have the foot speed for it. Also, Extreme arcade really sucks for me, because it hides the arrows so much in the background. I'm goiing to R21 convert the simfile and take it next time I go play ITG2.

"I'm honestly pissed off." |
So, silenttype noticed my absence the last couple days, so I'll post about why.
I went to my first ever anime convention, Anime Banzai. I didn't go for the anime, I went for the DDR. Kinda odd to go to an anime convention when you have no interest in anime.
I left the game room 4 times during those two days. Once on Friday to get lunch, once on Friday to go home, once on Saturday to wander around with a friend (whom I ditched in the store full of stuff I didn't want), and once on Saturday to go home.
So much awesome went down in that game room, on those pads, it's hard to remember it all. We had one guy playing everything in dark+hidden, including all the 10s, like PSMH, LoM, Max 300, Maxx Unlimited.
We had another guy playing everything in flat. Including things like Bag. Bag, 1x flat. Advanced tournament winner right there.
Speaking of the tournament, I took videos of the two songs for the final round. Max 300 and Bag. The one on the right won both songs, so there was no 3rd song.
There were 4 people there of my skill level on singles. But I was the best on doubles. Too bad we didn't have a doubles tournament.
We had two stepmania setups on the computer. One with the Pop Candy theme, and all the DDR songs (well, mostly, a few were missing...), the other with an ITG2 theme and all the ITG songs plus some custom stuff. Both were set to fail at the end of the song.
Lots of people played a simfile we had for "Simple and Clean" (a Kingdom Hearts song). Of course, it was originally for a sight read tournament for expert ITG players, so there was only an 8 footer chart for it. So nobody who wanted to play it was able to actually pass it.
We had people playing constantly. Nonstop flow of people playing from the moment we got it working until we shut it down each day. Only pauses were when we switched from DDR to ITG, or from ITG to DDR.
I didn't play very much, I mostly watched, going up occasionally when one of the good players didn't want to be playing next to someone unskilled. Or a couple times when I just wanted to play.
Sometimes I did doubles. The first day, I had just finished playing CSFILSM doubles (AA), when a guy came up and wanted to play with me. So I let him pick, and he said he wanted to play CSFILSM. I asked if he meant the same song I just played (it was rather noisy) and that I had already played it 3 times today. He said yes, because he loves that song. So I said okay. Then I set it on music. x1.2.
Cue me playing it just fine until I didn't feel like pushing my stamina, and him failing rather quickly.
Another time, I decided it was time for ITG, and switched it over. Then played 3 songs of doubles. Lemmings on the run for one, and the third was Disconnected Disco expert doubles. I had a crowd of ~20 people clapping for that, even though I only got a 65%. Before playing it, I heard a couple of the other good players talking about freestyle, and both of them had been doing sorta freestyle stuff on singles. While I was playing Disconnected Disco, I heard one say to the other, "I think you just got beat in the freestyle.". He was convinced that I was a freestyle player by that, until I told him that I'm really not, that's the only song I do that looks like a freestyle, and I can't even spin without losing track of the steps.
On the first day, I was playing a lot with the second place winner. He was making me do stuff like PSMH (can't do the crossovers plus reading problems due to the theme, so I failed), Max 300 (got tired of pushing my stamina, failed), and Legend of Max (actually got my first pass on it). So the second day, we were going up together, and I asked if he liked "In the Heat of the Night". He said no, I picked it anyway, and stuck it on music x2. Was fun for both of us, but his knee locked up partway through it.
It was funny going up in line after I killed that guy with CSFILSM x1.2. He'd tell whoever I was paired with that they were going to die, unless it was one of the other good players.
I was the best player there at doing hands. I'd even say, the only one able to consistently do them well. I picked "Dawn (Pertpetual Mix)", against one of the players that's better than me, and did a lot better than him, because I can do hands. I am so picking handy songs like that next time I'm in a tournament.
There we other games in the game room, but I ignored them. I cranked the volume on the DDR TV to a volume I liked, and there it stayed, no complaints. Well, except for at the end of the second day, when we cranked it up a bit more, and played "Never Gonna Give You Up".
Ah, good times.
Also, I has the dumb. I can't brain today.
BUMP: I'll do the video of .59 tonight, but until then, I have a gift to tide you over.
This is for .59, I hope you don't mind me reusing your rhythm Silenttype.
I hope you like Disconnected Disco and Dam Dariram, I took inspiration from both.

*awaits "zomgwtfbbq?"*
Then I set it on music. x1.2.

Hell yes I do mind!!!
Nah, I'm only kidding!
I take it that you like my rhythm placement for you to make a Doubles edit.
I'll be looking into it momentarily.

Nah, I'm only kidding!

Actually, I haven't had a chance to play it on pad yet, I was just bored at work today.
In fact, I'm still at work. So I guess I won't be able to do a video of your singles edit tonight.

Working overtime? Or is it just your late shift?
Edit: zomgwtfbbq? It reminds me more of Cafe, minus the freeze arrows. Can you actually do that on pad or were you just messing around with the autogen?

I think I'll be able to do it on pad. I thought about each part carefully. I plan on taking it to the ITG2 arcade next time I go and trying it.

Oh, and no, I don't plan on explaining exactly how to do it between now and then. You're supposed to figure it out for yourself.
