I wonder what's up with the roman numerals in the background of each of the song titles. 4, 5, 6, 7...skip the two Wild Rushs for some reason, 8, 9 then EX on Windy Fairy. Actually, there's slots next to the difficulty level and some of them are filled in with matching medals of some kind.
It looks the same as the Babylon’s Galaxy icons for the Flair Gauge levels.

This new UI is an absolute rotted fucking eyesore holy shit. Who thought that seafoam green and black/gray with neon accents with giant colorful character art were a good combination. They should've simplified and modernized the design but instead they shittified it. And of all of the QoL changes they could make, they couldn't finally add song search functionality? To me the most obvious thing to add to game with over 1,000 songs and counting.

Great design, but COULD BE BETTER. That's what I'm saying here.

Those are Flare Gauges from the Babylon's Galaxy event in A3 being available in (I'm guessing) Normal Play in WORLD. These are also visible in the song selection screen when playing on Galaxy Play in A3 after clearing the Encore Extra Stage.

Ah... I still have yet to play an A3.
In fact I might get my first chance to later today.

The Groove Radar only got more and more useless with each mix and it's not like it was exceptionally useful even back when it first debuted. It's about time it got axed.

I get that, but I still think it's somewhat useful for determining what to expect from the stepchart. Will you face an exhausting jump fest or are you going up against a stream of 16ths/24ths? I feel like that should be the Groove Radar's purpose. Better than going in not knowing what to expect. If they can somehow display those stats in the interface without the Groove Radar, that would be a nice compromise.

This is exactly why I want the Groove Radar. I do not have the stamina for jump streams and can't memorize charts like pro players.

Edit: I feel like japanese arcade companies have a focus on making games look "cool" instead of prioritizing functionality and ease of use. Like, purely from an accessibility standpoint for people with those needs the new UI is really bad. I just compare this to StepmaniaX, which has UI that is extremely easy to understand and navigate. Maybe it comes at the sacrifice of the game having a unique personality but I'd rather be able to know what I need to do to get from menu to menu. Like, even the Groove Radar is confusing if you think about it. "Voltage", "Chaos", and "Air" aren't the easiest terms to understand for a new player.

And maybe this is just a me problem but I have had issues understanding and navigating IIDX, Chunithm, Music Diver, and Wacca purely for the number of unintuitive menus you have to get through, and I'm not new to rhythm games at all.

ITG/Simply Love just tell you these things with numbers and tech notations. The Groove Radar could only do this with jumps and freezes (the number shown is how many of them there are in the song) but otherwise you don't really know what you're getting out of stream, voltage, and chaos.

Same here. I need SOME kind of indication that a lot of jumps are in the song. They are my weakness.

Oh yeah, IIDX is extremely egregious in this regard and no one really clocks IIDX for that

By throwing the site in Google Translate, it looks like those colored frames with the Roman numerals only appear if you clear the song while the Flare Gauge option is active. It's just an extra little goal to aim for.

By the way, is that Dance Dance Revolution's Extreme-era video in the bottom of its gameplay screen? I'd love to see older songs' Maxtreme videos come back, but... I'd also like them to be a little bigger.

That song (and a few others) have their videos now, actually. I'm assuming what were once full screen background videos and videos playing on movie stages will be displayed down there like that similar to how DDRII on Wii put videos in a small frame in the center but it's just a guess.

Maybe you'll get an option. Would certainly be nice. Like "FULL", "WINDOWED" or "OFF".

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

I previously said that the UI would look better if you just removed Emi and Rage from the background, so I took 5 minutes in GIMP and did that

https://i.imgur.com/iGhEw3C.png

See how much cleaner that looks? Having those busy character designs in the background just makes the UI look really messy.

Everything about it looks so flat and cluttered, like a bad stepmania theme I’d have had from 15 years ago.

Also the name, in the past we’ve had Universe and Supernova, now we’ve downgraded to just “World”?

If you consider DDR 2013 to be a naming reboot, they're just taking things slow with 'World'. By this point in the original series, we were already at 'Max'.

With this in perspective, the UI looks empty as hell.

I’m so disheartened by this mix. I’m holding on to a glimmer of hope that they are hiding some thing and don’t want to show it off yet. The speed modifiers are nice. But other than that, I can’t find much of anything that I like. As most of you said it’s too cluttered. The original promo art with Rage and Emi had me super excited because I was hoping for new outfits for characters and new stages instead, it looks like we’re just gonna get Wallpaper. Konami strikes again.

Despite all this, let's all keep in mind that these are just mock-ups and will probably not completely reflect what the final look will be, and are also taking feedback from players to improve it before release. That's what I'm hoping at least.

I admire your optimism but when has Konami ever proved us that they make smart decisions that make fans happy
