I joined the contest in order to better myself. And, when comparing my first-week submissions with my later-week submissions, I think I have, but the problem is, I'm at a roadblock right now. My Miracle Hinacle steps were more experimental than most of the charts that I normally do, and I incorporated double-stepping liberally into the chart... and yet it was more highly-rated than the more "conventional" chart that I did this week, Artificial Children. I'm kind of at a loss. (I'm not griping about the votes that I'm getting; in fact, I didn't even enter this contest to win it, and didn't think that I would win anything. I'm just confused is all.)

If someone could please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong, if I could do anything better, and what I'm doing that would impair the quality of my simfiles, it would be greatly appreciated. Even if it's something along the lines of "you're doing everything wrong, start from scratch", I'll take it into consideration. Granted, I'd rather get more in-depth reviews, like "you're using freezes way too much and in the wrong places", or "your files are too DDR-styled and more people like ITG-style steps" (which are both nuances of mine that I've picked up on), but I'm not requesting anything major, just a few quick reviews PMed to me, even if they are Awesome!Sucked!

Sorry if this isn't the place to be griping about this, but, like I said, I joined the contest in order to better myself, and how can I do that without feedback?

Sometimes, people are biased to vote in your favor if they like the song. That may have happened in your case.

No, I know that. And I'm guilty of it in a few cases. Problem is, I don't know what I'm doing wrong with the steps themselves, not with the files, if that makes any sense whatsoever. Eh... ignore me if you want. I'm just rambling.

^ Agreed 100%. I can't pinpoint why my successful charts have been successful and my other charts...haven't. I would really love feedback, especially because I'm going to clean up most of my simfiles and release them officially after the contest is over.

I'm willing to give feedback to anyone that wants it if they can provide a list of their files. I'll have a look at them and give my honest opinion. If anyone wants to do that with me, here's a list of mine:

On one hand, I share Grithok's view that some comments are at least helpful, but on the other, I'm currently like Telperion, who has not enough time to provide it; besides, I don't feel like I'm qualified enough to do such a thing and I don't think I never will. Simfiles to me are always experimental but I never can tell if they work out.

If there isn't a place to discuss these kinds of reviews, maybe we could make a comprehensive SC2011 Review Thread? This would solve the problem of "I can't give a comprehensive review for all of them" by allowing people to just review what they play, however thoroughly they want. 'Sides, I already said, qualified or not (whatever you mean by "qualified"; after all, these reviews are completely subjective), I'm happy with whatever you have to throw at me.

I've admittedly done best in weeks where I've submitted very, very gimmicky files (read: Quaternary Game and Smokahontas). Heck, if I went with that sort of feedback I'd write gimmick files every week

That said, after this contest is over, I'd enjoy doing a list of my favorite sims from the contest and why I liked them. I don't want to do a review of all the sims, but I'd do positive feedback.

The whole point of the thread is that you wouldn't have to; I sure don't want someone coming in and telling me that my Long Dream file sucked when I released it back in May; same with songs that I knew weren't anywhere NEAR good, I.E. I Am Your Grandma. People would use their own discretion and review what they wanted to, or at least, like Tel said, give a list of their favorite files and a brief reason why their charts were good so the step artists could emulate them in later files, or at least try to.

I feel sooooo lazy now that I'm done my exams, but I'll try and finish my file for the week.

Oh sorry. I've been having internet problems for the past week or so, so it's been hard to update.

This weeks theme is Female Week. Show your love for the fairer sex by stepping a song composed by and/or sung by a female. If a male co-wrote a song or sung a duet with a female, that is also fine.
