The point is, I love doublesteps, or as other people call it, JACKS.

Actually how I understand it, doublesteps and jacks are two different things.

Double steps actually don't bother me all that much, as most older charts had a lot of them.

Sweet, making singles charts for you is dirt simple then. I'll just write a program that picks a random number between 1 and 4, then sticks the arrow in that column. No need to spend time thinking about foot placement, just run it to generate a bunch of steps, then spend 5-10 minutes editing to some rhythm.
(the doubles version of this program is already written)

I've been meaning to ask, because I really can't get my head around this "double step" idea.

What specific charts should I play, that abuse it so badly?

"."
Stream tomorrow in early morning EST 7:30-12 AM of X2 with more things unlocked because I had to give up the laptop a few seconds ago.

Hope you enjoyed it.
Until then, that's all folks.

Are Breakdown and the original Trip Machine considered to suffer from the same problems?

I'd say so.

Doublestepping IMO is a godsend. I love those little fuckers.

BREAK DOWN! no, because it's almost entirely crossover-able. The song is actually quite well laid out.

Ok, yeah, those have been around forever. When I used to play, we called them "back-heels", because you had to blindly cross one foot over the other, and turn to the side, to keep with the stream. I like them, it adds a lot of depth to the game, especialy on doubles.

I thought double-stepping was something completely different. People just complain about it all the time, without actually explaining why it's bad ^^;

I think Breakdown is one of the (if not -the- greatest) chart ever written, because it allows good players to put a lot of flair into the way they play, and just outright encourages you to have fun.

I wish you had MSN, because I need you or Noob to just explain DDR to me. I'm fed up of looking like an idiot or a jerk in every thread ^^;

I just uploaded a stepchart that I made for PARANOiA JULIANA just to explain how much I love doublesteps and jacks.

That chart doesn't have any double steps in it from what I can see. Tongue

Double steps are when theres a pattern thats impossible to do while alternating feet without spinning awkwardly.

Edit: Actually there is a way. People never seem to realize it but they can be done by bringing one foot all the way around the planted foot to hit the next step, so oftentimes theyre actually not double steps at all. It mostly only works with quarter notes though.

Ok, cool. I'll go and kill myself on this, while someone figured out how to explain the difference between a double-step and a Jack?

Jacks are repeated 8th notes on one arrow, like in Dead End and Paranoia KCET.

A doublestep is what Viper mentioned above.
A Jack is this:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/1c/House_Jack_2.5_tons.jpg/450px-House_Jack_2.5_tons.jpg

(or rather, what you see at the beginning of RygonTM's chart, where it has the same arrow 2 or more times in a row)
silenttype01: Kyzentun is never harsh. He says it how it is.

GENERATION 24: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.

Oww oww oww owww.....

There were no double-steps, just lots and lots and lots of bouncing up and down on the same arrows, over and over again.

Yeah, lots of that.

Okay, now that Viper has perfectly explained doublestepping to me, I think the only things that I would like that stupid bemanistyle faggots would hate are Jacks and insane crossovers.

Yup, that's why we used to call them "back-heels". You pivot all your weight on one foot, lift the other foot, and slide it back behind the other one, and then it over the other leg to make an X. You put weight on the new foot, and then twist around a little to the side, following the natural inertia of the movement, so you're facing the left or right arrow.

Then you carry on the stream. I think most old songs let you finish the stream while turned to the side. The movement where you flick to the side is like backheeling a football.

Interesingly enough, looking over all the credits...

Of the 7 stepartists, 2 are from the HP2 team, one is from X team, one is from the X Arcade only team (meaning probably X-Specials and/or Wii Doubles charts), and the other three are unknown. TAG doesn't appear to be writing stepcharts anymore.
Perhaps the remaining ones are from the pre-X era. It seems highly unlikely that any of the others would've been around to step Let the beat hit em.
Since HP3 has no revivals from outside of the HP series, looking at the credits for it will most likely prove/disprove my opinion.
