I do still think it would be a good idea to revise some older Challenge to beef them up after all these years, like KAKUMEI. If they did something like that and replaced older charts with updated ones, y'all think that would be a welcomed thing?

Probably not. I think only KAKUMEI and Sakura need it. I'd rather they not outright delete classic charts.

I get it, it would be a pretty controversial choice to redo some older Challenge charts. But as we are well into the 1-20 rating scale now, it just feels underwhelming for some songs, especially KAKUMEI. I understand why you say Sakura as well, because I have always felt they must have made a mistake and swapped the charts because the Challenge was "easier" than the Heavy chart. So for that one, I guess just swap 'em after all this time? I dunno...

bag also desperately needs it.

Same with the early shock arrow charts that are just the Heavy charts with shock arrows sprinkled in (e.g. Waiting 4 u)
Okay I'm really about to say something controversial -- I was never a fan of the shock arrow integration. I mean, it's just okay for a few gimmicky things here and there, but for official steps...nope, not a fan. Given there have been so few songs with shock arrows post DDR X3, my guess is they may eventually scrap that as a whole, but who knows. But yeah, redoing Challenge charts with NO shock arrows I would absolutely support.

As for bag, I agree. Making the Challenge chart just the original Heavy chart that was in Extreme because the arrows couldn't be properly timed right because of system limitations back then was pretty "lazy" to do. Just do a completely new Challenge and call it a day. However, I can imagine recharting bag would be a b**** to do, even now. Yeah everyone would still amp the arrow speed up to x2 or more, but still.....oof.

The Challenge charts that are just Expert with some arrows removed to support Shocks are bad, yes, but not nearly as bad as the ones that were the Difficult chart with arrows removed to support Shocks. I’m not sure that any of those are still in the game, though. I think it was just licenses.

I would be okay with re-doing old Challenge charts, but I would like to see a way to preserve them. Perhaps Konami could implement an official edits-like system where those charts could be accessed similar to 4thMIX Plus. All the songs with redone Maniac charts there had edit data preloaded on the machine named “MANIAC-S” and “MANIAC-D” respectively for the singles and doubles charts. They could exist for preservation even if we don’t get access to edits, although I think we should but that’s another discussion entirely. They don’t even have to save scores, we all have phones at this point to take a picture of anything noteworthy. They could also toss on the OG Challenge chart for Max.(period) and all the other charts that were fixed in DDR X to go along with Bag.

Flight of the Phoenix Challenge and Heatstroke Challenge are still around. Maybe So What Challenge too, but that at least is intended to replicate how that song plays in DANCERUSH.

Oh, good memory. I forgot about Flight of the Phoenix and Heatstroke. So What Difficult and Challenge are definitely different charts though. Even if it's "only" as hard as a Difficult chart, I give it a pass for being unique. I didn't realize it was meant to replicate the Dance Rush chart, though, that's a really cool bit of trivia. I appreciate when companies do things like that.

Kinda makes me wonder if Konami folk are lurking around here...hmmmm.

I think the same with the DDR edits I have been uploading to my simfile category throughout the year lol.

Regarding updating stepcharts:
They've done it with Paranoia Eternal from 5th Mix to Extreme
They've done it to fix quantization issues in DDR X (La Señorita, Drop Out, Afronova, etc)

I think they prefer not to update charts to avoid alienating the players that go for AAA scores.
I also think this is why they kept Bag's Extreme chart as the current Challenge chart.

Simple Solution: create a new difficulty tier like they with Beatmania IIDX.
And transfer the QOL options from IIDX to DDR. I don't care about seeing "Marvelous/Perfect/Boo" as I play. Lemme turn that off!

The thing about these examples of updated charts you gave were pretty necessary, similar to how the Heavy charts for Ultramix 1 after the immense backlash and hatred people had for those. They were completely redone for DDR Festival, and those that were included in AC versions became the official charts.

IIRC, PARANOiA ETERNAL's chart in 5th Mix wasn't "technically" official to begin with, so them being updated when it was revived for Extreme made sense. Fixing the quantization of other songs also made sense, but the charts themselves weren't changed, just "fixed." What I was thinking is solely just updating Challenge charts especially in all this time, the steps should be a bit more unique and (yes) challenging, or even fun. The examples we gave are KAKUMEI and Sakura.... I guess if push comes to shove, maybe just swap their Heavy and Challenge charts instead if not creating new ones. For bag, in that case, make a new Challenge chart, and those with shock arrows, create new charts without them.

As for including a new difficulty, I was thinking about this as well. Was wondering if they should create a new difficulty specifically for shock arrows (for anyone who voluntarily wants to play those charts....which I kinda don't think would happen much), or just an added ChallengeEX difficulty or something.

Okay, now you're gonna make me and others rage. LOL I think judgments are absolutely important and necessary. Removing them or the ability to turn them off just feels.............wrong....

Red Zone CSP 17 is probably one of the best ones in that bunch. Minus the awkward crossovers.

I too would like to see new charts for older songs that already have all difficulties available (or hell, even full sets of charts for the Challenge only songs from MAX2). Konami could go and do the same thing they did with jubeat and the [2] charts or RB's Renewals, although they would probably clog up the songlist or something

This reminded me how Konami suggested the possibility of them bringing back Edit mode in the Ichika event from years ago but it sucks it never ended up happening, perhaps they straight up can't add a 6th difficulty at all? I wonder if the ssq files could support it

I wasn't expecting rainbow rainbow Challenge to be a Shock chart, but it actually looks fun and also them charting the extratone kicks as shock spam is hilarious to me. Can't wait to try it on a pad.

I would love so much for A to get a new challenge chart (if it didn’t have one already).

Also wish it could use the IIDX cut of the song instead.

A already had Challenge charts when it made its DDR debut in Extreme, so that's not going to happen.
