"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
I guess what's needed here is some examples of charts where double stepping ruins them. End of the Century is overloaded with double stepping, sure, but the double stepping is consistent through out the entire song. Same with Daikenkai. So it's obvious these songs were meant to be this way.

DLC: Have fun hating 360 NOW!

Both 360 and PS3 in this respect. Out of curiousity, how much does RB/GH charge per song?

GHII & GHIII: 200 MSP per song

Daiz: I was under the impression that we were talking about EotC DOUBLE
, not the singles chart.
(I can do those without double-stepping too, but that can be pretty taxing, and takes a long time to really get down).
If there IS a recent song that I think double-stepping killed, it's the first half of NGO Single-
. Parts of Konoko no nanatsu no oiwani Sg-
overdid it IMO, too. The song does sound like it should have SOME in it... but the chart takes it a little too far, too quickly.
EDIT: But then, I also think we're jumping the gun, judging a whole mix by us seeing what, less than 3 charts from the entire game? SuperNOVA, for the most part, turned out fine. (Even EXTREME, highly praised as it is, has about as many forgettable songs on it as well!) SuperNOVA 2 also turned out fine. DDR X was kind of hit-or-miss in places, but we still like a lot of the main stages and Xmixes from it. (I hope this upcoming game has more of those, too!)
Maybe it is best to tone down the panic, and see what's up with the other songs/charts first.

You know, the wording in the official announcement makes me wonder:

Additionally, players can download over 150 songs from past games and can download new songs on the Xbox 360 and PS3
It seems like the "over 150" number refers just to revivals. Could they possibly be doing new DLC so that it doesn't come on the disk (in other words, the way they should be)?Post #866 · Posted at 2009-06-05 02:37:10am 16 years ago

Nighttime: actually EoC is just an example. The real debate is whether or not charts should have double stepping. kyzentun thinks all songs should flow. I think some double stepping is ok and adds variety to a chart. then kyzentun brought up doubles in which I agree, double stepping can ruin a doubles chart depending on where double stepping is. I think something like Super Star FNSMM is a-ok.
NGO's double stepping ruins it, I agree, Konoko could have done without its double stepping. Arrabiata is another good example. But double stepping is not all bad and not necessarily lazy step chart writing as kyzentun makes it out to be.

Haha I hope it's not 440 MSP for 3 songs for DDR. Otherwise that means we need 22000 MSP to collect them all.

I hope it's more like 440 MSP for no less than 7 songs, considering their length.

Excuse me?! If they have the room to pack this stuff on the disc to begin with, and are planning on featuring it anyways... isn't "just sticking them in the game anyways" the way "they should be?" o.O
Plus, if they decide to make most of them unlockable or shoppable, this could create TONS of content worth extended replay; and it taking awhile to totally unload might give them an excuse to do something really crazy. Like take 1.5-2 years, and actually overhaul the engine, perfect the stepchart/stepzone timing and design, and not "rush" a product for once. If this game is really "200 songs big," I really don't think I'd mind playing it longer than just a year or so.
Even if it DOES unlock quickly and easily, for that matter.
EDIT: But alternatively, the option that conserves the most of your HD space *IS* the smart way to go about it. It's not like these songs will be compatible with other games of yours, or anything like that.

I don't see the big deal if the DLC is on the disc or not on the disc. As the point of DLC is, it's meant to add more content to the game.
What you're paying for is, the ability to play more songs. The method of how that happens, either by actually downloading the songs themselves to the HDD or the keys to unlock the songs is irrelevant in my view.

A few songs should feature some double-stepping; but I don't think they should have entire verses dedicated to such things, unless it really goes with the tone of the song. Konoko makes a good example of a song that could still use -some- double-steps, but they did too many, too frequently during the first half of the song. Every -other- stanza or so would be cool; but it's practically constant.

I wonder if the DLC will include songs that haven't been on a CS title yet (Across the Nightmare, Dance Dance Revolution) , Dancemania licenses, or old KO's that no longer appear in DDR (Hypnotic Crisis, The Earth Light, etc) and if songs that were Oni only will have filled in difficulties (like Ultramix/Universe did) or if we can get stuff like Groove Radar specials and X-Specials.
Nighttime: I agree with your assessment of double stepping. It can be abused but the existence of double stepping isn't bad. Every song shouldn't necessarily have ever stream flow into one another. You bring up a good point that a lot of step artsists ignore: having the steps match the song itself. Me Against the Music is a GREAT example. The part of the lyrics that go "round and round" is a spin. This works great! Trip Machine Phoenix
's jumps don't really fit and ruin the chart. Some songs are just plain fun because they fit the song. Imagine if Tsugaru didn't have gallops or if exotic ethnic didn't have cross overs. These songs just wouldn't be the same.

I can see it maybe including old Dancemania licenses. After all, I'm sure compared to the costs of Rihanna, Natasha Bedingfield, Jordin Sparks, Lady Gaga etc. Dancemania is pretty cheap.

How many people willing to bet that this might be true (around 20 licenses, 30 KO's, and 150+ KO/Licenses/crossovers)?
I'll put money in that pot.Quote: al2k4
This article states 30 licenses plus 20 BEMANI originals for all versions.
Oh so close.
