Wouldn't New Zealand have a higher chance of acquiring an Asian cabinet?

Well, Asian cabs ARE legal in New Zealand as well as Australia, right?

Correct, New Zealand would be just as likely as Australia to get asian upgrade cabinets. Which is completely useless to our goals, as the unlock codes don't work on those.

But you could inherit a used X2 that was connected to eAmuse and retained its unlocks and updates. At least everyone would get I'm So Happy. Theory of eternity would require someone with a valid eAmuse card that meets the requirements to unlock the song. Even in Local Mode, X2 should accept the card's data and unlock hidden content.

You can not use e-amuse cards when the machine is offline in any way.(90% sure, someone double check me)

I understand the servers are inaccessible but I thought one could at least login to the machine.

Nope. It has to be connected to the Internet for them to work. If its connected and not retrieving data it will give an error and the card will still not be loaded (the card will get ejected).

Then what exactly is stored on the card itself?

Almost nothing. All content is stored on the e-amuse servers. The card is pretty much only used for indentification.Post #8193 · Posted at 2011-11-04 12:17:58am 13.6 years ago

Readers are completely disabled when e-Amuse is set to OFF in the operator menu, same as any other Bemani game. You literally can't even put the card into the machine.

e-Amuse seems like a really cool concept that just would never work in US/European arcades due to the nature of them. It would be better if Konami had gone with a system where everything is on the machine and using cards/memory sticks to store the data and upload it to a system via PC's. Maybe they could even allow updates to piggyback onto said media to update the machines (though maybe that would be prone to hacking) or otherwise let said devices trigger unlocks on the machines without needing to go online.

Well I guess totally controlling the data and basically only having the pin code stored on the card itself is a good way to prevent hacking.

I was just throwing ideas out there. I wasn't suggesting that Konami should open themselves up to hacking (though I think at this point the hackers couldn't do anymore damage than Konami have already).
Heck, just giving the arcade operators a way to update off-line would be good.
e-Amuse is just a really unappealing system. Isn't there like only one or two arcades in the English world who even are enabled to use it?
Though to be honest e-Amuse is the LEAST of our worries if Konami can't find a decent arcade distributor outside Japan. Wasting pounds to play on broken pads with excessive drift is NOT fun.

Having an e-Amusement connection also requires the arcade to be in constant communication with Konami, not to mention they do charge a monthly fee. Unless a major chain like D&B were to jump onboard for the idea (which they COULD , they are now purchasing DDRs instead of PIUs), there's not enough arcades out there with stable reputations in the States.
And as far as I know, there are NO arcades in the US that are on Konami's e-Amuse. There have been several tests set up, such as the SN2 at Brunswick Bowl, but since then, everything's been taken offline.

Well, there's KONAMI's office, but that's hardly a public arcade.

Do they still have an SN2 online there? It'd have to be that or X1. As far as I know, there are no traces of e-Amuse on X2 AC US.

In other words, outside Japan (maybe?) it's a failed system?
I wonder how much time and money Konami spent on that instead of something more important, like ensuring that they chose a decent English distributor so that their only real form of advertising the series to the general public didn't reflect poorly on them and thus lose the series even more popularity and sales?
