I have a ton of respect for Fairy Red, because he sounds excited whenhe's talking about new DDR games, and seems to genuinly enjoy all of the games for what they are.
I wish there were a dozen more people like him on the forums. DDR would be a lot more fun for all of us.

Well, I think I've shown that I'm also genuinely excited about new DDR games BUT WHATEVER.

I hate getting excited because I keep getting let down. I really hated HP3/X2, and I didn't even mess with buying DDR 2010. I am personally sick of this pattern of bad Jun boss song followed by a bad evolved boss song. To make matters worse, the REAL DDRX2 got a whole list of amazing boss songs, as well as a good version to the bad evolved song.
My favorite DDR to play from start to finish was DDR X, because it was all new content, and we weren't screwed out of any amazing songs. It was nearly arcade perfect, and it had all the good songs they neglected to give us with DDR SN2.
Its just extremely aggravating because they know what works. They make the arcade games with amazing KO's, lots of interesting boss songs, a extra stage format similar to IIDX, and even some great licenses (Gouryella?). Then they make a US version with absolutely none of this content, all terribly stepped songs, most of the songs sound half a$$ed, and we get the same two boss songs over and over again. I cannot fathom a reason they would do this unless they just simply do not care. There is not enough money in this for them to even consider putting time and effort into the game. DDR in the US has hit a huge stale period, and I hope it gets out, but my gut tells me otherwise.

I will try when Konami tries.
This. When Konami steps up and produces a quality DDR wii game, I will be more then happy to buy it. Unitl then, though, I'll stick with the ps2 series and HP3Post #805 · Posted at 2011-08-15 07:01:43am 14.4 years ago

The problem with it is they are trying to fix a formula that already works, and it's inconsistent with the arcade counterparts anyways.
Pretty much this.Quote: Pie-kun

I'm excited too, but if DDR II is as bad as DDR 2010, I'm going to just not give home releases any chances... :\Quote: Tyma
Also, and I *think* I'm qualified enough on chart making for this to be relevant, but Hottest Party 4 has my favorite DDR chart of all time.

Osaka, eh, I like the song, but the way it's evolved is just being chopped up, no real changes to the song. It also has pretty bad steps. Not as bad as much of HP2, mind, but definitely below average in terms of quality.
For steps, here's my take on the Wii series:
HP3 > HP >>> HP4/DDR2010 >> HP2

tokyoEVOLVED wasn't bad at all. Very comparable to Maxx Unlimited in terms of difficulty and stepcharting.

Yes, osaka was a hot mess of a track with all the different cuts they did for the different versions. roppongi and New York are the best music wise (roppongi and Tokyo step-wise).
Wonder who'll be taking the reins for this year's Evolved song? U1 seems to have shied away from boss songs over the past few years, but we could always have a 2MB Underground. Also, NAOKI seems to be taking a more active role this year now that he doesn't have another game to promote, so maybe we could see the return of NAOKI Undergruond.
Although they could always troll us and put KANSAI EVOLVED -OSAKA STYLE- in.

I wish 2MB would do an EVOLVED song.
Also, I like all the EVOLVED songs except for Osaka :/
Tokyo EVOLVED sounds awesome and has a busy city feel to it.

What I would give to have more information on this game... Are there any conventions coming up? It doesn't look like it's gonna be the best Ddr we have played but it definitely looks better then last years.

I would also like to add:
Magic Parade
Ever Snow
Find You Again
and lots of others if you give them a chance.
I actually enjoyed DDR2010, although only with DLC included, the 50 songs the game had would have been too boring.

Private Eye and Until the End are what made the game ok.
The rest seem to be unmemorable.

Tokyo Evolved blew my mind the first time I heard it. Osaka was pretty bad, but Kansia kind of redeemed it. I really dont like Roppongi Evolved untill Version D, because all the other versions sound like uncompleted songs to me. I really just hate NY evolved.
I was so excited for a NC boss song and it ended up being in his rock style instead of his techno or trance styles, and IMO, he needs to give up the guitar synths. Didn't lke Soul Crash, didnt like Music in Rhythm. I LOVED Innocence of Silence and the original Seduction (and the vocal mix, but that was just a cut of the long version, similar to FFF Pt 2, and It feels like a cop out when they do that, more so with FFF than Seduction), and then he started doing what ever it is he is doing now and I just am not a fan anymore.
Oh, I completely forgot to mention LA Evolved. If that had be called something like Tokyo -D- Volved or something, showing it as a remix to Tokyo Evolved and not making it look like a new evolved song, I would have been fine with it. Granted, my only complaint is in the naming, and in the fact that its step chart feels like it should be stopping constantly, and it doesn't at all.

I hear this. That's an overall thing with Universe 3 though; the only song with a single stop is aftershock!!, and DM Ashura wrote those steps, so the actual Universe 3 step team just hates stops. If they ever revive LA Evolved, I hope they do put the stops where they obviously should be.

Gamescom starts on Wednesday and the DDR Facebook page has hinted that DDR II will be there.

Apologies for not responding sooner guys.
I just want to make one thing clear: I'm not trying to say that DDR is beyond repair or anything, and in the past I have appreciated each game for what it is, even when said games have been delayed or mediocre, but now I've grown tired of making excuses for Konami when I know that they could be trying harder.
I think having a solid, multi-platform release scheduled on all the consoles that ties in as closely as possible to the arcade versions would be a good start.
With the Wii U coming out next year all of the three major companies will be more balanced in terms of graphics and power meaning that logically it wouldn't take much effort to release a game on all of them that could be similar.
I will probably keep an eye on DDR's developments, but I doubt that I'll buy a new game anytime soon. I think that I'll stick with Stepmania for now.
