People are already putting Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure 2. I'll wait til later, at least to make this a bit less redundant.

Admittedly, I'm not much into GTA-styled games, and I waited until "The Full Package" came out since I don't like games that nickel and dime DLC, but this game is a rare exception because it is essentially an over-exaggerated/ridiculous parody of those kinds of games, and it works so well. You start off as a mob boss with everything, then nothing, then everything again, and it feels satisfying doing the quests and stuff. At times, you even feel like a superhero (which was taken to literal means in SR4), and the writing was actually pretty funny at times.

Spooky game. Interesting universe, smart A.I, runs well, good graphic, excellent controls, and it's definitely worth your time.

Disgaea

A great tactics RPG game with a quirky art style and soundtrack. Ive sunken several hundred hours into this game back in like 2004 or so. The game goes off the rails in terms of what is available after you beat the main story, with some optional superbosses being literally over 100 times more powerful than the final boss of the game.

Gold/Silver improved a TON on Red/Blue/Yellow. The double-badge trip through Kanto was neat, taking place in the future after R/B/Y. Teaming up with Lance, introduction of breeding, just being a huge game for the GBC. Red (the trainer) was uh... fascinating? Not sure what word I'm looking for. Like "oh snap this is what happens when you play too much Pokemon; I should stay in school and not forget how to talk. But hoooooly wow his team is strong." Also, Lugia's in my top 5 legendaries, probably. It also introduced Quagsire and Wooper. Wooper. And Quagsire. I rest my case.

So, Kyle Ward has been streaming on his Facebook, showing off the really impressive-looking new pads that are going to be in his new game, and could possibly be available for home use as well (!!). So, in honor of what may be a reboot of the ITG series, let's talk about the first (and only) PS2 port of...

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2b/In_the_Groove_cover_artwork_(PlayStation_2).png

This game might trigger some people on the forums, but it is admired for essentially defying the conventions established by DDR 6-ish years prior: (intentional) 3 and 4 arrow jumps? This game (and sometimes PIU, admittedly) has it! Mines that kill off your lifebar (which was later bastardized retooled by Konami as Shock Arrows)? ITG invented and perfected it! Courses that had a lot of fun gimmicks that set the scene for "sight-reading" charts/tournaments? You get where I'm going here.

The soundtrack had a mix of memorable and forgettable songs, but as someone who hadn't really known much about Stepmania at the time, and was starving for a new DDR game due to arcades being nonexistent where I am back then, this game definitely filled the void until SuperNOVA came out. It's a shame we never got ITG 3 officially, but at least we won't have to wait too long and think about "What if ITG was still around?" anymore. Smile

What a fun driving game this is. The destruction you can do within the game is insane. The soundtrack is also pretty cool. Better than the original, and definitely worth your time.

Sonic Adventure

Others have said this game already. This game has not aged well, but I love it for nostalgia reasons. Plus, it still has one of my favorite soundtracks. And no, Adventure 2 is not going to show up later, I think that game is inferior to this one and is a highly overrated sonic game.

I hadn't played Pokemon since Gen 2 prior to this coming out, mainly because I had forgotten about it. This game brought me back into the fandom, for a lot of reasons; it has a story that sort of broke tradition of just being a trainer getting all the badges and then beating the Elite Four; there was a subplot about N and all that jazz that provided a nice break from the usual main goal. Top that with plenty of memorable Pokemon (including the personal-favorite-of-all-time Litwick line {Brief side note: you might have noticed Lampent being my spirit pokemon/avatar. ;) }), and the pretty cool (but sadly gone) Pokemon Global Link, and you had a pretty slick generation that provided a fitting conclusion to the 2D era of mainline Pokemon games.

Half-Life 2

FPS that was revolutionary for its time. Not a single cutscene, the entire game is first person and you have control over Gordon Freeman. Unfortunately the game ended on a cliffhanger and we will likely never know the conclusion of the story of this game because Half-Life 3 refuses to materialize...

Yeah. I have the same #19 pick as Viper. This was my first game I purchased on Steam, and I'm glad I choose this one. This game really showed off what the source engine is capable of. There's also a lot of cool moments in the game, like when you control the Antlions, and acquiring the gravity gun. The story is also pretty engaging and the voice acting is pretty good. (The cast even includes a few big name actors like Lou Gossett Jr. & the late Robert Culp.) Definitely worth a play. I think it's even better than the original Half Life.

Criminally underrated RPG from BioWare. I love the setting of this game. It's so unique, as is the universe that complements it. I wasn't big into RPGs before. But this game, this game got me into RPGs. Play it if you haven't already done so.

Bravely Default

Awesome RPG for the 3DS from two years ago. Has amazing music and and amazing art style as well as great gameplay. The game appears to be a massive callback to the original Final Fantasy which is also a game I love. Definitely my favorite game for the 3DS. Game is also bloody hard and difficult to finish with the true ending, though I managed to do so.

#18. Konami Krazy Racers
It's better than the Mario Kart that was released for
the GBA for sure. Better graphics (imo), great modes and controls (i guess).
The roster is nice, but they should include more familar Konami characters.
Overall nice game

You can't go wrong with any of the arcade era NFL Blitz games, so if I had to pick one of them, it would either be Blitz '99 or Blitz 2K Gold. Can't say I've played the console versions on the Dreamcast yet, save for the original on PS1, but they pretty much are part of what I feel a sports game should be; easy controls, difficult to master (even if it's the signiature unfair difficulty that came with Midway's arcade games), and they've defied age after all these years (The only thing missing would be the Houston Texans, which started appearing in 20-01, and the Rams moving back to Los Angeles). Top all of this with Tim Kitzrow's amazing commentary, and you have a game that everyone still wants in their game room, 16+ years after it came out!

HOTD2, specifically the Dreamcast version (since it's essentially the same as the arcade version with extra stuff, thanks to the console using the same exact tech as the NAOMI board), is a game I still come back to play fairly often. It had a bunch of branching paths, which lead to many playthroughs, the Original Mode where you could get cheats and character swaps, the Training minigames, and, of course, the amazingly cheesy voice acting that really enhanced the tone of the game.

I miiight add in 4 to the list later on, though 2 is easily the best in the series.

(No specific title; just the IIDX series in general.)

So, instead of talking about what the game is about and why you should play it (since I'm sure 99.99% knows most of the Bemani games.... except maybe Rap Freaks), I'll tell you a little story. Same will be said of any other Bemani games that wind up on the list. ;)

Once upon a time, back in 2004, I heard about this game, and after seeing some crude gameplay footage of someone playing Sakura Another on (I think) 8th Style AC/CS, I thought, "Oh cool, this game looks so slick; it has high quality background videos that are unique to one another, and has songs that are from DDR and/or songs I wish were in DDR.", and it was one of those games that I was shocked was never released in North America.

Then a year or two later, we get Beatmania US; I played it for a good while, then I forgot about it because there wasn't much to unlock outside Another charts and getting to play them on Free Mode. Top that with seeing what Japan got with IIDX RED CS a couple months later, and I was jealous. So, I looked around if there was a way to play all of the songs that I missed/will miss that wouldn't cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars (even back then, you had to be pretty rich to get either a JP PS2/a compatible Swap Magic, and the PS2 games that even if they were in stock, they cost more than double the retail price over at Play-Asia). I eventually stumbled upon some PS2-to-USB converters (one that worked on my dance pad, but not the IIDX controller, and vice versa), and a program called Be-Pachi Music; it was new, more user-friendly compared to SSRMAX, and all the while looking pretty cool.

I'd download all the songs I wanted to play (because my hard drive wasn't big enough to get all those keysounded BMS files from the entire series), as well as the latest BoF packs. Years go by, Be-Pachi was replaced with LR2, I was able to download more official songs, and I was still salty at the fact that I may never get to play an official IIDX game outside of that one game, which was inferior to the others (and especially the newer ones). I stopped paying attention of the series from 15th-18th Style because a lot of the songs were "meh", and it only numbed my jealousy.

Flash forward to a while after Lincle came out, I stumble upon the arcade machine location page at this website because I was curious if there were any machines that touched the Inland Empire at all, and lo and behold, I see that there was not only a Round1 that just opened in Moreno Valley (which was very close to where I live!), they also had a Lincle machine (which was a machine that still had some of the Substream stickers on it) with actual eAmuse servers. Needless to say, it was amazing when I finally got to play this game after 7-8 years of being jealous of people who were a lot closer to LA/Milpitas, and especially when Naperville had that brief location test of Gold.

The moral of the story: Be patient, maybe? XD

A fun and addicting arcade game where you capture safari animals. Easy to pick up and play, and if you see this in an arcade, give it a play.
