I see no reason why KONAMI hasn't attempted this yet.

Two words; Just Dance.
DDR has been doing well enough in the US even after Just Dance became a thing. I think KONAMI just didn't promote the later releases we'll enough for it to sell.

Receipts, please.

DDR HP3 was pretty well known by casuals, as there programs and coverage on it, 2 years after Just Dance was released.
There was also some pretty good attention brought on to DDR 2010 as well.
There were still DDR games made for the US until 2013 but they weren't too successful.

It indeed was, but it was still got some attention.
BTW, DDR 2010 was going to be released in Japan, though still with the same exact songlist.

"five minute white boy challenge"
Looking back on the thread, I see a lot of "just because it's not popular in America doesn't mean it's dead". For those people, I implore you to learn about continents that aren't Asia and realize none of them care for this game outside of niche groups.

us euros don't have an R1/DnB equivalent. I am cry.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

Judging how DDR II was able to fit over 80 songs on one Wii disc, which can hold a max of about 8.5gb, imagine how much they could fit onto a PS4 or XB1 release.

Why would they give us over 100 songs?
Answer me this.

We barely get anything new in a ddr (AC) release.
I think that having a high number of songs would sweeten the deal immensely, as having only 50 songs on DDR 2010 put me off from preordering it; also, keep in mind that Konami could use it's vast repetoire from previous mixes as unlockables (with an unlock key one could buy for each group of songs), which would definitely provide a compelling alternative to Guitar Hero/Rock Band, and possibly to buying older mixes. Even without licenses, it should be possible to squeeze out about 200 songs from 2013-A alone, judging by the amount of songs in each game.

If I spend an hour or so to make a [..] beautiful standard chart and a fun light chart and it's required for the comp, play it, or at least look it over other wise I don't see the point anymore[.]

Despite DDR II having 80 songs they cut out a lot of characters, modes and stuff for it to fit.

Good, don't. Save yourself the misery and utter disappointment that was DDR 2010.

And now AnonyWolf with the rebuttal...

Also BEMANI seems to be more focused on their other games to really do much of anything with DDR nowadays, which upsets me quite a bit with the whole 'NEW DDR WITH NEW INTERFACE AND NEW LICENSES AND CROSSOVERS' when it practically could have just been an update-oh wait it was.

Then really what was the point in calling the title something different if this wasn't DDR 2016?

This definitely put an 'Ace' in the hole. SEND ME PACKING HOME FAM I AM DEAD AS A ZOMBIE WAITING IN THE DMV.

DDR's bread and butter is casual players, if Just Dance hasn't made that obvious enough, I don't know what will.
This is how DDR would become popular again:
1. 100+ list of mainstream popular songs
2. Online play, earning you points to spend in game on outfits for characters or whatever.
3. Online high score lists, as well as 'most steps today/this week/this month/ever'. (I personally really liked how Wiifit U went about this, I was one of the people with the highest step count according to that).
4. DLC songs every 2 weeks/month, also you can spend your online points for discounts (or every 1,000,000 steps or whatever) to encourage people to play more as well as get out new music and alt. music (80's hits, 90's hits, Video game music, etc.)
5. Story mode, but only to unlock new outfits, modes, stages, and songs made by Bemani, all mainstream music should be default. Also other modes
6. Multiple platform release, and compatible with at least gamecube and PS3 mats (respective to console due to console wars).
7. Advertisement.

None of this will ever happen though.
