The first episode is slated to be out sometime tomorrow so look forward to it! Smile

Maybe tomorrow.

It's 2 hours long :{

edit : Delayed slightly, as I had to appear on a World Of Warcraft podcast tonight (In which I pimped our podcast, and accidently invented a strange new fetish).

First Episode is done!

Debating whether or not to make a new thread, or to wait until we have some sort of website.

Episode 01 - Internet Ranking Version
[Download]

After a successful pilot show, Maniac Mode kicks off with a bumper Double Episode, looking at the newest (and possibly greatest) game in the Dance Dance Revolution series, before going back to look into how the series itself started (with the help of obscure Japanese websites)

Segment #1 – DDR II Review
Segment #2 – The Original DDR Game. All 4 Versions Of It

-

Please let us know what you think. I utterly regret not splitting it into two episodes.

Website should be coming sometime this week.

Nice work, I overcame my aversion to the "hour-long podcast" format to hear this and it was pretty awesome.

"Give me a steady beat."
Everytime I tried to download the file it failed and gave me a 100kb corrupted file. When I viewed it in the browser it ran for about 14 minutes, timed out, and wouldn't resume.

I liked what I heard so far, the audio quality is above average for a podcast. I'll try again later.

And I remember my 1st time with DDR...

DDR EXTREME2
Cartoon Heroes (Speedy Mix) Beginner (Passed I think with a C or a B)
At my 1st church youth lock in
I was 12 at the time.

Sigh...Good times.
Especially when after awhile I gave Speed Over Beethoven a try...both on Beginner and Light

Append: Actually...Sky Is The Limit has the longest full version, clocking in at 5:30

SAY A PRAYER is 5:19

Just wanted to point that out Smile

Actually one of the old youth students brought his PS2 with Extreme2, about everyone who attended the lock-in played it, and since I got really interested into it I tried it out...And so begins my love of DDR...Until I left the following morning with no DDR...
Sad

At least a few months later Mario Mix help filled the gap...For awhile.

You guys have done a good job making this podcast, but as a long-time veteran player, I was really surprised at the lack of attention given to older DDR titles. With a few rare exceptions, most of the games you referenced in your first half were all released in the later half of the last decade. I'm really surprised you didn't stack it up to some tried-and-true DDR CS classics like DDR Max or Max 2.

Also, I'm surprised that you chose to do a history analysis on the DDR series without finding someone to interview who has some experience on the matter. AIJ has a tremendous amount of info on the DDR scene since it's inception and would've been a great person to have contacted about this. Even if you don't interview them 'on air' for the podcast, you could've still contacted them and gotten some basic info via emails and what-not.

Sorry if I come across as very critical in your first production. I enjoyed listening to it (though I would've suggested breaking this up into two separate episodes instead of one humongous one. However, overall the production quality was good and you guys were enjoyable to listen to. I'm really glad to see DDR getting some coverage in this medium and hope you continue to improve and refine the show as it progresses. Remember, all of this is purely my own opinions and I'm only being critical in an effort to help out your show.

Best of luck.

I think the main problem (as we mentioned early in the segment) is that because so few people have played Pre-Internet Ranking DDR, there's only second-hand information to go on. I did speak to a lot of people, and after a lot of research, I'm pretty confident that our run-down of the differences between the 4 versions is as accurate as any other account.

We try not to stray off-topic to talk about older DDR games, when we can probably dedicate entire podcasts to a few of them. DDR Extreme 2 USA was specifically mentioned, because it's always been the "holy grail" of American CS releases, until DDR II showed up to challenge for that title.

We'd love to take suggestions for the topics of future podcasts. Every podcast will have a specific topic, rather than just being "here's stuff that happened this week", so there are 12 years of music game topics out there for us to cover. Most of the early podcasts are probably going to be pretty DDR-centric.

I just finished listening to the podcast, that was pretty nice work.
I guess my only suggestion would be to have guests come on to talk with you, if possible.

I must say though, well done overall.

Personally, I know very little of the PIU franchise and how it meshes into the history of DDR. I've heard everything from 'It's different, so they didn't get sued' to 'they DID get sued for PIU and now each PIU game pays royalties to Konami for it's use'. I'd like to have these myths set to rest. Heck, maybe you could do an entire podcast on DDR myths: True or False.

Very nice idea, keep in mind we are in a very early stage for the podcast, things will eventually change as time passes on and we (more preferably I LOL) can get this DDR podcast down to talk about many aspects of the game and stuff.

I know a lot about Pump It Up, but I don't know the full story. I'm not sure anyone does. I'm happy to talk about the situation, and our opinions on it, but I don't think we can give any sort of definitive answer :{

Pump It Up would be a pretty good subject for a podcast or two, since the series itself is actually a bunch of completely different games, by different developers, all seemingly made from scratch.

edit : And we get to play Pump music, which is of course the best music Big Grin

I just listened to the first episode and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I really like your guys voices/style. It was very apparent your love for the game when you talked about it. The show was very fun and informative. I really like fact that you had songs playing in it. That took me back. I think you have a very solid format.

Also, your commentary on DDR II for the wii has made me want to go get a wii and a game. Sounds like fun. Smile

The only thing I would suggest for the future is if you had a segment where you allowed submissions on peoples, "their first ddr story". (either va. email, audio file, or guest.) Cus, everybody has their first story and it might be one more interesting thing to add to the show.

Can't wait for show #2 Happy

I like the idea. It would be cool if during the podcast someone could play some live DDR songs (for example in piano) lol (yeah, that would require someone talented).

If you ever want some Dancemania related discussion/info, I'd be happy to help. I (physically) own quite a few Dancemania albums and have listened to a fairly large portion of the Dancemania catalogue.
