Yes. If your going from lossless to Ogg, I don't care. But if it's MP3 to Ogg, just save it for the end-user to do - transcoding is bad.

How have people here been making music cuts btw? I may be able to contribute a "flawless" cut for Super Driver and only my railgun, cut based on BPM from the lossless originals.

For some reason I can't play some of the simfiles (notably Sakura Sunrise and She is my wife) in the pack with StepMania 3.9+. Tried deleting the cache and it still won't load. The hidden song option is turned on. The .sm is readable, however, the artist name becomes blank and all steps are gone. Is there any way to fix this?

I recorded line-outs of the Youtube videos, and broke them down in a beat slicer, then broke the original down in a beat slicer, and paired the high and low peaks, then cut out any bars which weren't used.

It's pretty obvious at this point that Naoki lied about having access to the master tracks to the licesnes.

I don't like transcoding. And there are other benefits of using OGG. I would convert the MP3 to an uncompressed waveform then to OGG to preserve the quality the audio is currently at (whatever that may be).

The reason I want to do this is... 1) OGGs are needed for r21s, and are supported by every flavor of StepMania in existence, we can safely assume no one uses DWI anymore. 2) OGGs are easier to keep synced across machines due to the way they're decoded. 3) I still have issues with badly encoded MP3s in the official simfile packs here on ZIV so I want to avoid a situation where the song works fine for most but gives a few people problems.

Edit: OGGs also match the sound quality of MP3s in less file space.


From my pack? or a download from the threads/simfile section? I did major cleaning to a lot of the .sm files because some of them made me cringe.

Edit 2: I see what happened, fixed them for the next release.

Couldn't you just cut Super Driver from the full length version found on the Super Driver single?

Why not making a simfile category instead ?
It would be more simple for people to download the files that they wants or only download the updated files.

Also, we won't get people working on the same song but making 2 different files.

People are double-coding whether I make a collective pack or not. There are also too many different categories hosting X2 work sims so making another won't help. The only other pack of simfiles is the unofficial ZIV pack and mine is far more up to date. I'm just providing a single source for the extent of the work done so far so everyone doesn't have to piece it all together by hand.

You should request access to the DDR X2 Beta category. It's the most official of the unofficial categories.

As for that... I'm not sure if I care for the honorific. I'm not really adding anything to the work I'm just filing and collating what's already there. But I would like to help, in the sort of 'Here's 20 youtube videos of stepcharts, start coding' way. I spent years asking to be brought on-board for file dumps from PS2 games way back when on DDRUK, and I've asked here as well but nothing has ever materialised. If they want me, they know where to find me.

There's probably no official category because none of the content is ripped directly from the game, so it's better that no one makes the mistake that any of the simfiles are finalized and 100% accurate.

Thanks for that, and thanks for uploading to the Beta category.
It'd be nice if we can collect the floating files in that category, it's easier to keep track of changes, making it then easier to catch and fix errors/add charts as we see them.

I can request access to Pie, since I got the time to upload the stuff, for now got a bad connection, but in the weekend im gonna have my normal internet speed back and I can upload the songs that left there...

It was kind of a message to everyone including those with access.

Another Public Service Announcement: Now I'm getting direct contact from board members and there's some confusion... The contents of the pack I have created is nothing more than what has been posted here on the ZIV boards. This includes what's in the beta category and what is not yet in the beta category. This means that steps are still missing, artwork is missing or of terrible quality and audio is missing, or has the announcer talking over it, or is a shitty YouTube rip. I don't have access to the raw game data, if I did I would have posted THAT instead. The virtue of the pack I've created is to prevent joe user from having to scour the board and collect all this data to get a preview of X2 songs in their simulator in lieu of a proper and up to date simfile category here on ZIV. Thank you.
