I'll be getting HeartGold, just for nostalgia's sake since I had Gold at first.
I'm gonna go for SoulSilver, for the same reason. That, and I tend to go for the second version (i.e. Gold & Silver, I went for Silver, even though I broke that trend with D&P)Post #62 · Posted at 2009-05-09 06:33:24am 16.1 years ago

Everyone is going for SoulSilver just because it sounds cooler, why is it always the name. I'm getting Heart Gold since like E-S-G- said I had Gold first.

Meh, I got Silver first (and logged some 300 hours on it, iirc). It's funny that Exor mentioned always picking the second version except with DP, because I always picked the first version except for GS.
The news still caught me by surprise. I just stared at the news on Serebii for awhile.

Now that I think about it, I think Silver was the first pokemon game that I had ever owned (I first played Blue version, but that was a rental from Blockbuster, when they actually had handheld games for rent
) I was really upset when someone stole it with my GameBoy Color one day at school. I've never felt that sick until I had lost my Sapphire game.
Outside of that sorrow rant, I am glad to hear there are actual names for these two already. I plan to get Soul Silver. Maybe afterwards I'll get Heart Gold. (Why do I suddenly have a craving for Corn Flakes?)
Now to beat the Pokemon League in Platinum.

Some of my friends prefer Silver; so maybe I would get this version, too.
Memories of my times as a Pokémon fan came back when I knew about this new release.

Heart Gold still reminds me of those little chocolate hearts wrapped in colored tinfoil.

Wouldn't it be better to get the opposite version so you can trade the pokemon that are only available in one version?Memories of my times as a Pokémon fan came back when I knew about this new release.
That's how i decided to get Pearl, my friend had Diamond. I'm just hoping that one of my friends get SS, because I'm not.

I had Yellow, Gold, Stadium and R&S Pinball, and then I fell out of the loop in 2003-ish. No idea how to get back in, though.

Well then, a Gold/Silver remake would probably help you out then. Just note that 3rd gen (GBA) brought in a lot of new tactics, and 4th gen turned a lot of pokemon upside down and added even more stuff. Here's a bit of background on what you missed:
3rd gen:
-All pokemon have an ability, which takes effect automatically regardless of moves used. Some abilities provide additional defenses, like Pikachu's Static (30% chance of paralyzing if Pika is hit with a contact move like a punch/scratch), Hypno's Insomnia (immune to sleep), Gyarados's Intimidate (lowers opponent's attack 1 notch when Gyara switches in), Jolteon's Volt Absorb (recovers HP from electric attacks), or Weezing's Levitate (free Ground immunity). A few abilities aid in attacking, like Azumarill's Huge Power (2x Attack in battle), or Exeggutor's Chlorophyll (2x Speed when it's sunny).
-All pokemon have a personality, which raises one stat 10% and lowers another 10%. They can be looked up here, among other places. It's helpful to get pokemon whose personality lowers the stat they don't use, like Slowbro and +SpAtk -Spd (Quiet) or Machamp and +Atk -SpAtk (Adamant).
-The stat system was re-vamped behind-the-scenes. Instead of maxing stats by fighting whoever you want, now it matters who you fight. (Not that any of this matters to a casual player, mind you; anyone just trying to beat the game can just level up without noticing any differences). Instead of being able to totally max all 6 of your stats, now you only have enough points to allocate that you could max only 2 of them. In competitive environments, there's a strategy element behind working out how many EVs to give to which stats.
-A few neat new items were added, like the Choice Band (+50% Attack, locks in your first move until you switch out) and the Salac Berry (free speed boost when you drop below 25% HP).
-Some neat moves were introduced, like the Brick Break TM (75-power 100 acc Fighting attack, removes Reflect/Light Screen), Dragon Dance (+1 Attack/Speed), and Taunt (forces opponent to use direct attack moves for a few turns, so they can't heal or stat-up). There's even a move called Trick that lets you swap items with the opponent.
-Emerald version introduces the Battle Frontier, which has a lot of facilities like Stadium where you can win Battle Points. BP can be traded in for items or teachable moves (mostly moves that were TMs in the first two gens, like Swords Dance, Thunder Wave, Rock Slide...)
4th gen:
-Here's where they threw everyone for a loop. Instead of moves being physical/special based on their type (i.e. Fire=special, Rock=physical), they assigned the physical/special property to moves individually. Now if you have Fire Punch, it will be physical (based on Atk/Def) but still be the Fire type. Hitmonchan gets a big boost there, and Alakazam loses a lot. Crunch is finally physical, and Shadow Ball is special.
-A crapload of old pokemon get new evolutions that make them reckoning forces. Sneasel's evolution is scary strong.
-Many more battle items get introduced, like berries that reduce a single super-effective hit to half (normal) damage, and more stat-boosting items with different limitations (Life Orb gives +30% damage, but you take 10% recoil).
-A lot of new abilities are introduced, like Clefable's Magic Guard (prevents all indirect damage like recoil, sandstorm, burns) or Scizor's Technician (+50% to all moves under 60 power).
-A lot of moves become available, as 4th gen has 92 TMs and Platinum version is littered with move tutors.
*glances back over his post*
Hmm, I hope that wasn't too overwhelming. I tend to get a little zealous about this stuff. *sweatdrop*

Zukin-Man would be quite happy...

I put off Diamond a while back, last saving before fighting Dialga. I'm thinking about going back to the game, when I have a chance...

Dialga is surprisingly easy to catch for a title legendary, btw.
Oh, and there is a working DS emulator or two out there. I use no$gba 2.6a.

I'm still having trouble capturing that blasted Entei
AT least I paralyzed him and took some health.
I managed to capture a Turtwig though!
My cat was assimilating him into the family.
