my thought are... DDR X was for the 10th annaversary so there might not be an X 2... because the next release will not be 10 years of DDR, it'd be 11... it'd be interesting to see what name they come up with next... it'd also be interesting if they remove the characters & change the theme up a bit (instead of having the songwheel on the right)

I doubt it's X-2. That's a total FF reference. I'm going to take a stab and figure that since the arcade versions up to now have focused on buzz words we're going to have something 3 times more extreme than a Supernova. So... DDR White Hole? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_hole)
Dear god that sounds so bad
DDR XX is also just too weird. If they're going with roman numerals the next natural name would be XI.
How ironic would it be if they named it DDR Hero?

To be perfectly honest I've never really liked how the DDR titles have been titled and designed since SuperNOVA. It seems more like Konami is trying to make the series into a super serious rhythm game rather than the fun music game I feel I ought to be.
Remember the days of EuroMIX/3rd MIX with those lovely disc images, the over-the-top American announcer and those wacky disco-themed designs? Then EuroMIX2, Fever, MegaMIX/EXTREME/MAX with the digital jukebox design expanding on the original idea? Then we got Extreme 2/Max (where to me the series reached it's peak) with lovely graphic theming and great song choices.
Then SuperNOVA came along to tie the three major regions together and uh, the series doesn't seem to have been quite the same since. SuperNOVA seemed way to harsh as a design to me, I mean Fusion's green felt a little gaudy but while SuperNOVA has some nice new looks and effects it didn't feel like the same game anymore. SuperNOVA 2 improved the theme a bit with nicer blue looks and a songwheel sound which doesn't destroy your ear drums when you flick through, but it was just SuperNOVA with a new lick of paint. Shame we Europeans didn't even GET the arcade version so I could try it out properly.
And then DDR X, dear lord, I know urban is the new pop but seriously a game based around it? Also I understand why people wanted a refreshed difficulty list but was adding an extra 10 levels and scaring would-be-new players with 3 or more foot Beginner difficulties really the best way to come round it?
I personally don't want a DDR X-2, at all. I want the music and rhythm game I used to know and love. I want my Dancing Stage Max 2, or SuperStar, or any-other-cool-sounding-name. I would also like Konami to start showing Europe some respect again, and not give us these half-baked late releases. I half expect our release of DDR X PS2 to lack some of the American licences just because of the way Konami have been treating us recently.
Excuse me for the rant, I'm not normally an obnoxious prick like this but I'm feeling a little angry at the moment and felt like letting out some stuff I've been wanting to say for a while.

You win the thread because this is so true. It may have been that EX2 just had a lot of work put into it, but also I think that the downfall at SN was for me because I coughcoughjoinedBMScough. It was just a WALL of negativity there and it kind of ruined it for me. Also, I had gotten to "let's play through everything on heavy" mode at that time while I was still on standard in EX2. So when I got EX2 I felt like I could still go somewhere, whereas with SN, I played the songs and had no trouble getting anywhere. The experience felt shallow. However, that's when I got my friends into DDR so it made SN fun. The real downfall for DDR for me came in SN2. That's was just crap. I didn't think X was as bad though. Sure the announcer was REALLY REALLY ANNOYING but I liked the songlist and the charts. So I thought X was a bit of a step up.
That's just my ranting two cents.

Oh for sure! I mean max and max2 were the titles that got me hooked on the game. The music was great and the graphics were awesome. It still bugs me and I want to know what happened along the line. Maybe the next ddr will be DDR: Under New Management. O.o

Maybe it'll be DDR Y!
Eh, I don't know what it'll be like. Probably like X, but a different color, like how X's theme color is orange, Y (or X2/XX/whatever) might be purple.

I'd like to return to green, it was a good colour choice and worked for EXTREME.
But who knows, maybe they might suprise us all and call it "Dance Dance Revolution: 12th MIX"

Anyway, the Extreme 2 interface was bad. I didn't like it. But the background videos and music were the best of any US release, by far.
For the next DDR release, I'm hoping they make a CS only version. Like DDR X-tra mix or something. Same interface as DDR X, but with different songs, maybe a better announcer, new characters and stages, maybe a new mode or something? They don't need to make a new AC version just yet. That way they can focus exclusively on the PS2 game, like they did with Extreme 2. Or they might pull a SuperNOVA and not give us another mix for four years lol.

I will agree that the NEW content on SuperNOVA was awful (the Xbox stuff was good), SuperNOVA 2 is better than Extreme. This is what I don't get. SuperNOVA and SuperNOVA 2 had almost every song that was on Extreme, minus the licenses of course, and some random less popular songs. If Extreme was so good, then why are SN and SN2 so bad?
How good the game is doesn't rely solely on songs. The newer games also replaced the silly, fun feel of the game with a more machine-y, industrial feel which doesn't appeal quite as much, I'd say. There's also issues such as the timing change and elimination of backgrounds.Post #74 · Posted at 2009-02-02 06:56:21pm 16.4 years ago

Good idea, except if PS2 huggers whine about missing the songwheel.

And arcade.
I wouldn't want them to move away from the songwheel. It's the interface that I've come to know and love for DDR and just about everything else they've tried looked ugly.
The jukebox CD look was good for the early versions, but that was before there was a massive archive of 300+ songs to scroll through.

Man, DDR needs to go back to the old cartooning designs. They switched from Cel to GL. I miss cartoon Emi with her poofy beret and jogging outfit.
The songwheel was a godsend, but maybe they ought to switch the banners to cd covers?
Anybody else think SuperNOVA's SXF are horribly annoying? Both of them. The home port of Extreme 2 also had ear grinding sounds. I noticed a funny little glitch too where if you push the start button for SN2 and you let the itmer run down without select a gameplay mode it goes back to the opening menu and you don't get your money back.
