"I'm honestly pissed off."
Just thought you guys might enjoy this. Lemmings On the Run hard doubles, no bar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu1Iz8Q9Twc

I've got a semi open crack in my left foot that bled a bit today. Also a small, non hurting (yet) blister under the big toe pad. So I'm just going to play Chrono Cross for the next couple days, while it heals a bit. I'll get to the one remaining request (ziv348's GR specials) when I decide it's healed enough. Probably Friday.

I don't mean that I've stopped taking requests, only that there is only one active (unless I've forgotten someone).

I tagged the ones that are actually songs I like.

Heh, sorry that you didn't like the majority of those songs. Oops

The edit for BABY BABY GIMME YOUR LOVE was created so that I could have something to warm up to; I didn't put thought into the edit. If Let the beat hit em! isn't an 8, what would you rate it?

And how's the foot injury coming along?

I don't know what genre that music is, but it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know why. Maybe there just isn't enough going on in it.

Well, BBGYL is too low end for a warmup for me. I generally warm up with a set of mid 9s.
For LTBHE (anagram of BLETH), I'd say it's a 7. 8ths at 102 are really slow, and the 16ths are all short, so I don't see it as being hard enough to rate an 8. I can't think of a good example of another similarly stepped song that was rated a 7 though.

As for the foot injury, I can dance on it just fine. I can't really go a night without dancing. >_> I didn't dance monday night, and sleeping was even harder than normal because of it. I'd rather spend tonight with ITG Rebirth than do requests though. And I'm not really looking forward to doing more GRS charts, unless them coming up as radar specials was accidental, and not the goal.
You can still leave requests though, and I'll get to them sometime next week, as weekends are for doubles play at the arcade.

I'll do a bit of first person doubles play videos, just for kicks. And if someone shows up to be my camera man, I'll try to get a video of me FEC'ing Mellow hard doubles. (I've got 53 ex, 1 gr on it.) We'll see what I can manage.

Okay, ziv348, I tried out your charts for "We Are". Rather than upload the videos, I'll just type out what I think of them.
First of all, song choice. Everything complicated in that song is very much in the background. So it all tends to get drowned out by the sound of your feet. Also, it doesn't have a very strong beat, making it even harder to follow, and adding to the feeling of the steps following nothing.

The air special was fine, though it shouldn't have been rated any higher than a 5. Same goes for the freeze special.
The voltage special (the 8) was mildly interesting to play, though most of the time it had nothing to follow. It left me guessing where it got its voltage right up to the string of uwarranted jumps. Nothing in the music seemed to say "jump" at that point, much less "jump like mad".
The chaos special (the 9) felt really random. Both in step rhythm, and in step placement. It felt like you just placed random 16ths, then hit shuffle a few times.
Same for the stream special. (the 10)
Same for the general special. I didn't even bother trying to finish the last 3, as I don't find playing on shuffle to be fun.

So, next time, pick a song with a stronger, more defined beat, and follow the foreground. Don't try to force radar specials out of it, that was exactly what Konami did wrong, and why lots of people don't like their radar specials. Shuffle is not something you want to use when making pad steps. Last note, when you package the files for a song, put them in a folder, then zip that up, like you did for the other two songs you had me do.

Since ITG Rebirth still hasn't finished, (it got cut off while I was at work, and I had to tell it to resume when I got home), I did some Max3 stuff, and some Dancing Wipeout stuff instead. Probably upload videos of at least some of it.

"proud to be #2400"
Yeah, I didn't expect much good to come out of those specials. As I've said, they're sort of experiments in step patterns - what to do and what not to do. (For the record, I never used the Shuffle option - I simply put arrows where I thought it'd fit.) At least there's something I can take from this and the comments you've given on the previous videos.

For the folder thing, I'm going to do that in future simfiles - currently I don't have the time or bandwidth to reupload all my older files to follow convention, this included.

Thanks very much. Neutral

Better than Silenttype's chart.
I see you've come across that simfile of Brazilian Anthem!Big Grin

That edit was the reason why I made one of my own. I personally don't like that chart because it seems retarded to me in the sense that it tries to go with the melody, and that's something I've stopped doing with my edits. But hey, to each his own! Roll Eyes

I'm also remembering that you said in a previous post that you warm up with mid-level 9s. Before I started to put any thoughts on my head, I decided that's it's better to ask:

What makes a simfile fun for you?

I ask because I made an edit for Dark Black Forest, and I wanted your input, since, you know, you asked for a 10 footer chart for the song.Big Grin (My current edit is an 8; I'll be willing to explain the dilemma with the song)

On another topic, what kind of camcorder do you use to record your sessions? I've been meaning to ask for a while now.

I would still like to request songs, but I believe I have requested too many for now.Dead

Hehe, I wondered what you'd think of that comment. I actually prefer it when the steps follow a complex melody as in Brazilian Anthem. Since you say you've stopped doing that with your charts, I'm guessing you're planning on redoing your chart for "Beginning of the End", and taking out that 15 measure 16 stream (need to retry that, now that I've gotten better at keeping rhythm on 16ths at that speed). I've considered getting more Dance With Intensity, but the songlist looks more mainstream than I think I'd like, so I've only got a couple packs from it.

For me, a chart needs to stretch my abilities at least a bit, providing some complex rhythms, some quick movements, and a good song. I consider Da Roots expert and Dawn expert fun charts for this reason. I also like doing hands, though I only do good on them when they're combined with freezes. Tribal Style expert is also a very fun chart, as is Fly Away expert. It just so happens that the ITG packs have more charts in the range I currently enjoy most. Maybe I'd feel differently if I'd played more DDR charts. Fly Away ~mix del matador~ is the only similarly done one that comes to mind right now.

For Dark Black Forest, I think it should be something similar to Tribal Style. Heavy on the close 16th gallops, with some 5-7 clusters scattered around. Probably end up a low end 10, but still hard enough to be a 10. Have the 5-7 clusters move at least one foot around though, it's more fun that way, even if it is more technical or more difficult.

As for the camera, it's actually a Pentax Optio W10. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06021503pentaxw10.asp
Cost me ~$300 around 2 years ago. It's good enough for what I do. I actually kinda wish I had one with a sound input, that could mix piped sound with sound from the onboard mic. That way, I wouldn't have to fool around with the gimmick of putting headphones on the camera with rubber bands.

You can request as many songs as you like, I don't mind. It actually helps me decide what to play each night. And I have to play every night, or I can't sleep peacefully.
I have Dancing Wipeout 2, 3, Rebirth, and Starlight. I also have ITG1, ITG2 (as maintained by pikminiman here), OpenGroove and ITG Rebirth, and Tournamix 6 (though a couple files in that act funny) if you want to request songs from those packs. I'm a bit sparse on the official DDR charts, as I haven't bothered to get all the ddruk bumper packs.

When I have no requests, I just play whatever, and upload whatever videos I feel like. I usually try to pick songs I don't have videos of, and will often do sightreads. I hope none of my subscribers feel like I'm spamming their inbox with stupid crap. >_> But hey, they subscribed, so it's not unsolicited. Plus, I like bragging about random stuff like getting an A on Bend Your Mind expert, and a B on the MGD2 "11" (in quotes because it didn't seem like an 11, unless you want to call Xepher an 11) chart for Clockwork Genesis.

PS: Longest post ever. And I've been saying "expert" where I mean Challenge, because I was talking about ITG songs.

Appended: You might have noticed a couple videos where I start by saying, "I need to catch my breath after that last song.", and then play a mid-9. That's what mid-9s are for me right now, a song that'll be fun, maybe challenging, but not too tiring. Something I can do immediately after a mid-10 without worrying about running out of stamina, even if I ran out of stamina on the previous song.

I dunno to be honest. The Heavy chart was pretty good, so I don't even know why I bothered to do an edit for it. But we'll see when I pop in my SN2 game again.

Duly noted. I have noticed your play style when you sightread, and that kinda kills off the surprises that are in some of my charts. Sleek design and waterproof. Damn I'm jealous. I have a SONY HANDYCAM DCR-DVD 108. I believe the camcorder itself cost about $225. I bought it last christmas so it came with some other stuff like a carrying case. In order for my camera to be waterproof, I'd have to buy a clear plastic box for it. It's ridiculous.

Alright, I'll request a couple more then, but not at the moment. It's 2:00 in the morning over here in Florida and the everbody's sleeping so looking through my edits wouldn't be a wise decision right now. I like to play them when picking.

Random question: Do you like Secret Rendez-vous? If not, did you like it more after playing the Challenge chart?

P.S. Sorry about the quote tower.

No jackhammer streams is what I got out of it. Maybe something like a staircase, crossover or an anchor arrow stream.

I definitely see plenty of potential for DBF. Gallops after the intro, gallops introducing a nice 8th stream, 16th clusters. That's what I can remember from the song anyway.

Rainbow Rainbow could use a nice overhaul too. So much bounciness in the main beat. Surprised

I don't know what to request of you. You could probably take on my SN2 GR specials but lets take a look.

Pluto (VS)... umm... It's based off of the original challenge chart. The worse thing in there are freezes during the stops (LOTS OF THEM) and the 200 BPM section where there are 16th triplets and 5 note clusters, finishing off with a staircase to the 220 section.

I don't think I used crossovers in the speed section but I haven't played it in a while.

PR (SS)... not something I'd ask you to do. While the 100 sections are mostly simple 16th streams (translating to 200 bpm 8th notes), I can't ask you to do the last 400 section, even though it's easier than the original.

Then there are the 800 sections. The third one is the funny one. Surprised

Poseidon (GR)... C400 stops that one. The freeze arrows look confusing but I found out that you can release it after you step on the first arrow so you don't have to double step. C400 will get you past the 75 bpm section. Without it, it's killer. Simple but killer.

Uranus (CS)... I kind of overhauled it. It's definitely crazy. I like the chart but it approaches slight nonsense after the final stop. The 16th streams are kind of like MAX 300's streams; usually there's nothing there for the arrows to follow but you can feel the rhythm.

The final stream is my favorite. It starts off as an 8th note stream, then turns into an 8th note jump stream when the bass gets louder, then it finishes off with a 16th note "hipbreaker" (L-D-R-D-L-U-R-U-L). It's a tough chart IMO.

PH (AS)... It's cute. I removed almost all of the crossovers in the chart and straightened out the gallops. 75 bpm section is easy. 150 BPM section is tougher. Death stream is a death stream of "you-know-whats"

If you can handle jumps, I'd like you to try that one. If not, then Pluto (VS) isn't too hard. You could also do any of the other ones if you wish. Analyze them if you are bored.

Yeah, I never broke that fear of looking away from the screen. I made a couple attempts to break it, but I never learned to do it gracefully, on beat, and knowing what was coming up next. Plus with the speed I read at, it's hard to see beyond the spin.

Play Tribal Style expert a couple times, or at least look at the chart. Basically, something like LDUDL, which makes you move your left foot to up, and back, but your right foot stays on down. Sort of a short quick anchor stream.

Well, yours is actually made with video recording in mind. In mine, it's just one of many modes, none of which are really perfect. The miniSD card mine uses is probably better than the "Memory Stick Duo" of yours though, because I can use use a 4GB microSD, with a miniSD adapter, and have an hour of recording space.

I can't believe it took me this long to understand what you were saying (FELMDemon). *facepalm*

But yeah, the potential for Dark Black Forest has already been exploited. Look it up on Bemanistyle. The simfiles that you see are the reason why I wouldn't design my edit like that. It gets repetitive and doesn't leave much room for originality when going with the 16th notes. Besides the rhythm for those 16th notes is very similar to my Sandstorm edit and more obviously in Twilight Zone Heavy.

Some other songs I'd like to request from my category:

PARANOiA
PARANOiA ETERNAL Realized that I didn't update it yet. Hope it's not too late.
PARANOiA MAX (CLUB ANOTHER VER.2)

I hope it's not too much!Puppy Face

Para Annoyer is a terrible song with a million terrible remixes. I did those three charts, but I didn't really put much effort into it because the song sucks.

AND SM THREW AWAY ALL MY SCORES!
I am not kidding. All my scores on every simfile I have done are gone. I laughed when I saw the message about Stats.xml being too big, thinking it would behave reasonably, and not save. But now all my scores are gone, except for the ones on those 3 crap songs.
So I bumped a thread from 06-23-2007 on their forums where someone else asked about that problem.

And now I'm going to spend the rest of the night working on installing gentoo on my new harddrive, instead of posting the videos I made.

Oh, yeah, I'm serious. I'm dead serious. When you start getting 1-2000 scores, watch out for a time when you seem to have scores on nothing. If that happens, kill SM immediately, don't let it save. Check the log file it makes to be sure, and you should see a message saying that Stats.xml is unreasonably large. Probably the only thing you can do at that point is start a new profile, or go in and remove scores you don't care about.

I mostly care about the ITG scores. Stuff like AA'ing BYM hard, and A'ing BYM expert. And AA'ing a fair number of the 9s.

Silenttype requested more doubles videos, and I finally got another one.:
