I used to wait 2+ hours during peak nights to play back in 2002 / 2003. It truly can be discouraging, but I made so many friends it was worth it.

It doesn't help for this upcoming event Konami is pulling the same crap they did two years with the New Generation 2016 songs and force you to unlock one chart at a time per song on Extra Savior. I figured they'd not do that again, but oh well.

What personally irritates me the most about this is that other top players with access to 3+ Ace cabs don't seem to get why the general public would be annoyed by this statement. Like, yeah. I know Chris is the best in the world and to keep that up he needs to be able to grind songs for 12 hours straight, but it's summer. Malls are gonna be crowded. And doesn't his home R1 have 2 Ace cabs anyway? There are still players waiting for eAmuse and hundreds more waiting for Ace to begin with. I don't think he's a bad person or an elitist or anything, but he definitely carries a little bit of that insulated California player mentality that just oozes privilege and it's really disappointing to see on display like this.

See, I knew this was coming, just like people complained about new generation. If you really don't like it, just pick the songs you want to unlock and unlock those. Otherwise, it's not a big deal. You just have to unlock all the charts one at a time.

Another person on another BEMANI forum used to give me crap for citing my opinions on the music quality of IIDX songs because I didn't play the games like he did. Said guy lived in California within walking distance of machines. I live in Northeastern Philadelphia, which didn't even have a IIDX less than 80 miles away from my house until 2016.
In fact, a lot of people on that forum lived in, or around, California, or near places that regularly imported machines.
And what if you want Prey, though?

If anyone else had said that, nobody would care. Why is it a big deal? Because it's Chris?
The California scene is HUGE, which leads to long wait times despite having more cabs than anywhere else in the US. If I had to wait an hour or two between sets, I would be discouraged too.
More DDR A cabs plz
Hi, Florida player here. We wait an hour between sets regularly and I'm sure you'd find the number of active players much lower. California is not the only place where busy DDRs exist, as much as your multiple two-cabinet locations in both R1s and DnBs seem to make people think so.The California scene is HUGE, which leads to long wait times despite having more cabs than anywhere else in the US. Just to address what some of you suggested, you cannot buy a private DDR A cabinet. Konami sells them 50 at a time to arcade chains. Otherwise, Chris would have had his own a long time ago, wouldn't you think?

I'm sure Chris has his own cab (be it an ITG or SM cab) that he can practice the Ace content on. Regardless of the fact that he is one of the best in the world, the comment is still a little dickish. Especially considering he actually has another location that is closer and less busy based on what he said on Twitter. Also, the fact that he made a bit of an elitist post a few months back on "how to make ddr more popular" and then complained about it being too popular (at his location) contributes to the dickish-ness.

You can still get other machines though. It doesn't have to be a DDR A one (and I really doubt someone would even own one anyway, since you have to connect it to the internet to even boot). If anything, maybe a X3 one or a ITG machine should do itPost #7633 · Posted at 2018-08-28 09:38:37pm 6.8 years ago

The timing on an ITG/SM setup would be wildly different from Ace though so buying his own cab wouldn't help him with practicing at the level he requires at all. It's a bad suggestion.

I'm actually from Michigan. We have one location with 2 cabs, with one likely leaving soon. We have lines as well. I'm just saying the community in California is so massive that even the amount of cabs they have can't support the demand.
I'll bet you money that it's going to California. That's what happened to one of our cabs in Chicago.

I like how this is turning into "let's gang up on californians". California is a huge state, and only 2 cities (LA and SF, 6 hours apart) have a large amount of machines.
I spend the summer in San diego, where despite having a population of 2 million, we have only one cab that regularly gets 6-8 people. In Santa Barbara, a city of 100k where I go to school, there's not a single cab within 2 hours of any direction. Yes, California has the most cabs. But they're very consolidated and mostly in the 2 largest cities.

I mean that’s literally not the case over here considering there’s what, 5 in the country? I’d wager there are ways of ordering one over there if you spoke to the right person and paid the right amount of money. I mean if for some reason it is the case still over there, it’s still not impossible to do, just difficult and expensive.
To answer another comment that was made about it only being an issue because of who said it, if anybody complained about lines to me in a location where there’s more machines available to them in a decent sort of travel time than there are in our entire country , I’m going to be irritated by the attitude. It just so happens he’s someone a lot of people follows so it’s picked up on more quickly. Queues aren’t a bad thing for the game at all, if the arcades decently run they’ll always notice and try to help by adding more machines where possible. If nobody plays on the machines they go away. As much money as he would put into one I’d wager he’s not likely to put in as much money as the entirety of all the other players at his locations do to keep it completely afloat by himself.

Don't think I'm gonna give this one to you. You have machines from Sacramento to San Diego, which covers all of your biggest cities. By contrast, Florida has one in Orlando, whereas we also have Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa as population centers ranging 2-4 hours from Orlando and none of them have anything. I'm only speaking for my own state but this is an issue in almost every state except for California.
You have 39% of the Ace cabs for 12% of the population. That's...that's not fair no matter how you spin it. You can do it per capita, per sq. mi., doesn't matter.

I still haven't heard any of the songs aside from SUPER SUMMER SALE and Life is beautiful. I hope they map the beeps to steps on the former on Expert!
Here is a YouTube playlist of all 7 songs from Bemani Summer Greetings.

I’m not against Californians or anything like that, it’s just a shitty thing to say regardless of where or who you are.
Someone above said that practicing on an ITG/SM machine wouldn’t be effective for ace due the to the timing being wildly different - while they do use different methods for how timing works, the fact that you can adjust SM to be as tight as you want means it will help regardless. I regularly play between my SM cab on close to arcade timing and Ace, and it definitely helps. A lot.

Nowhere did I say it was unfair/unjust that others play on the same machine. Any one of you can tweet being upset that you can't play consecutive sets and no one would bat an eye. But since I'm the best player, it's automatically labeled as entitlement/elitism. Whether or not I actually feel entitled to play more than others is a moot point because that's not what I tweeted about. All I said was that I'm discouraged that I can't play with the frequency required for improvement.

Why not just play at Sunvalley if Eastridge is getting too busy? It's closer to SF and much less busy. I don't see a need for you to take a break if either location is busy either. If anything, taking a break is worse than having to wait in between sessions.
