Wireless bluetooth speaker/headphone/earphones always have the 'latency'. So you need to calibrate audio sync properly before the play SM. I'm always using wired ones.

I'd go further and say that you shouldn't use StepMania to sync your song at all. Your audio and video outputs and your keyboard inputs are going to be some interval out of sync with each other, no matter what. Bring up the waveform in Audacity, ddreamstudio, a DAW, or whatever you have available; visually pinpoint that offset beat; and then check that the rest of the beats line up.
I highly recommend MUTE's step-by-step guide.
Once you have a guaranteed correct simfile offset, you can play the file in your preferred StepMania, and adjust your GlobalOffset until you can get consistently high Marvelous/Fantastic counts on it.

Should have file ready for tonight.... Just gotta finish medium.
And I enjoy how the top three (so far) are the first three when you put all of the Round E files in alphabetical order.

Wow, these votes look like a tier list. There's a high tier that mostly has 22pts, a mid tier averaging 10, and a low tier averaging 3.
@vincentw It's gonna be tough to put together a song for this week, since I'm away until Sunday afternoon, so I might have to submit the spuriously synced file I mentioned earlier. I have PFC'd my test file with a pretty good perfect average, so it should be fine.

I've always been fascinated with gimmicky boss songs...
Hm... I'm not all about boss/red songs. I like files that don't naturally put pressure on you, my stuff typically scores into the 8-9 footer range, and I usually never make 10 footers.
However, there was only one right way for me to go about THIS file. And I think you may like it.
Alright. I set up a challenge for this one. Every chart without fail has a total number of arrows that is a multiple of 111.

Yes, I went there. And even the freeze arrows (except

This one has many gimmicks, so I will give you tips on how to get far for a sightread.
First, play on x1-x1.5. If you go into the .sm, you may notice how monstrously intricate the speed changes are (one goes up to 2620!!!). However, this chart is designed so if you only keep the key BPM changes and throw away the rest of the stops/speed changes, this chart will still work perfectly (except maybe some freeze arrow ends, but that's excusable in this case). So don't let the padding gimmicks fool you. Keep playing as if they aren't there. Especially on the stops. You'll hit the arrows almost perfectly if you do.
However, this chart doesn't run at a flat 220 BPM. It has 110 BPM sections as well. But how to tell which ones will come?
Every chart (even

Oh, and

I must say, I had self-esteem problems with this one and debated if doing this would be a good idea, and then I almost gave up on it two times because of low confidence (4 sub-10s in a row). I am so glad I got this one off of my chest. I sort of rushed

I am also going to apologize here for my Round G submission and whoever gets it because it's kinda cheesy, but I want to see the steps for my childhood, and this song is has the most potential out of the band I selected.
And finally, I have decided to switch over to StepMania 5.0.10 for the rest of the contest. I still proudly support 3.9, and I will make sure my files are still compatible with 3.9 just as well (if any use rolls/split timing/other wacky stuff, I'll post a custom zip containing both a 5 and 3.9 version), but I'm kinda getting tired of the rolls glitch and Gameoson's FIGHT! file motivated me. Once I play through the Round F files, that's it. I'm actually kinda scared because StepMania 5's editing system seems a lot more tricky to navigate through.
....okay. I'm done with this post. Now I can finally go to sleep.

For me, switching from StepMania 3.9/etc. to StepMania 5's edit mode was a little intimidating at first, but it's really easy to get used to. I'm sure you'll be fine in no time.Post #749 · Posted at 2015-12-19 09:05:21am 9.5 years ago

You wouldn't need a custom zip. Just upload the SM 3.9 sm and the SM 5 ssc directly to the site. When people download the auto-zip, it will contain both files. That way SM 3.9 reads the sm and SM 5 reads the ssc automatically.Post #750 · Posted at 2015-12-19 04:36:02pm 9.5 years ago

Navigating SM5's edit mode is really similar to 3.9, it's just that it has a bunch of extra fancy features.

Telperion, I want to apologize for submitting my cut of DATA SUPER HIGHWAY.
I found the song because of THIS very contest (...well, Simfile Shuffle 2014, that is). New York Fantasy was amazing, and I think it should have won Round 1 (Velvet Sentiment was also good, though). However, I couldn't find the full version anywhere on YouTube, so I turned to Spotify to get it and found at least 3 other cool tracks by the artist. I didn't feel like recording the audio from my computer to get DATA SUPER HIGHWAY so I just took it from YouTube. However, only now do I realize it wasn't showcasing the entire song (only 3 out of 5 minutes). So many much-more stepable parts than the second half (about 1:23 in my cut) and Spotify had a higher-quality version, so some minor but still interesting hi-hat sounds were cut off. I am very sorry for not making this cut the best one.
I'll be careful with song cuts and promise to really consider what parts of a song will be fun to step (unless you hate the song) next time.
@vincentw You said we don't have to vote for the Round F files, step a Round G song, and submit Round G/Round H songcuts until December 28th, right? I'd like the extra time to consider if the song I'm going to send for the next round will be fun for anyone to enjoy.
And I just want to take some time off of this contest because while I do want to participate in all 12 rounds, sometimes I just want to work on other things.
@chewi I tested stepping a Round L submission (yes, I know exactly what I'm going to submit for the last round, however, let's just say it takes a lot more than simply cutting to get it finished) and I kept accidentally going to Split Timing, causing it to be incompatible with 3.9. This submission has multiple sections with a build-up and then an impact, so I figured using wavy scrolls would be interesting. That's how it kept happening.
Would it be considered cheesing to slightly speed up your submission so that it fits in the 2:30 limit? I plan on submitting something that is, even though without speeding, my submission barely fits, going at 2:25. Plus, I actually think it's better pitched up half a semitone up (and I had to speed it up so it wouldn't sound squeaky).

Split timing and scroll changes are used, but only for one stop in the song. This chart has an assortment of Freeze Arrows that emphasise the various instruments in the song.

A future submission of mine uses a tempo speedup to simulate the live version of the song, which is a lot faster than the original recording. It should be OK, just as long as the quality isn't marred by speeding it up.
Post #756 · Posted at 2015-12-20 02:42:19pm 9.5 years ago
We also think that speeding up is cheesing. Try not to. I'm sure that you can come up with a better cut than that. 2:30 is already a pretty long time.
About the deadlines: We accept ROUND G song cuts this week and ROUNDs G+H cuts next week (break period). The shuffled list for ROUND G will be revealed after the break period is over. The deadlines for the events CuzcoBlocko referred to earlier:
I'm currently abroad. I have internet, but the deadline is at 1am, so most likely I'll be asleep and Scarz will post both the results and the shuffled list.
If you plan on submitting near the deadline, 5pm UTC on 28 Dec, please submit it to Scarz.
Thanks.
