I have never, in 10 years of doubles songs, seen a single one that does this.

I'm not saying the chart forces you to double step across the pad, I'm saying when I double step across the pad. Songs such as HVAM, Daikenkai, Leading Cyber, Brilliant RED and a few parts in other songs I have double stepped while crossing the pads. Other songs such as Colors Oni, Cartoon Heroes, etc. I have double stepped until I learned how to cross the pad on those parts.

I never wanted to say that, sorry if my explaination are bad.
(+ i'm more someone who AAA after many many tries than someone who play the song once...).

I should explain more this :
Imagine, that you have 98% average on 9' and AA all of them (9feet from SN1 and SN2).
We can imagine that if you paly a new 9', you could get a AA on your first try.
You play a new 9' (old scale) from X/X2 got some wtf moves to do, and end with 91%.
So you could get suspicious with this stepchart ^^'

I don't like double-step, but for some easy songs, it's ok. (you named "Celebrate Night" for exemple, i know this one has a lot of double steps but i really like it because the song is easy and fun).
I enjoy so much a chart when the is no (or almost 0) double stepping (i even enjoyed PSMO recently. I'm really bad at it and i have a poor stamina. But i will play again until AA).

But i guess everyone has his opinion and that's good. I'm sorry that this turn into a little off topic.

Didnt Healing Vision Angelic Mix introduce the first song with tons of double stepping? And technically, you never HAVE to double step, you can always change feet.

double-stepping itself isn't that bad, but when you guess wrong, it leads you into an awkward pattern. A spin here or there is cool, but these patterns just don't look fun. I've lost many AAAs and quad stars because of ambiguous steps.

At some point, someone made up the concept, to explain specific step patterns that have existed since the very first game. At a later point, people started making a big deal out of it..

rofl, chances are slim to none. You'll have to wait for the US location test (if there is one).

I don't recall TRIP MACHINE, DO ME or SKY HIGH too well, but AFRONOVA has barely any double stepping at all. It was the first song to introduce what is known sometimes as the AFRONOVA Walk where you're basically doing candle steps sideways.

My thoughts: there is a time and place for double stepping. If we limit ourselves to never putting in patterns that would enforce it (or at least require spins), then we are severely limiting our step writing tools. There is no such thing as a 'bad pattern' that should never be used; it depends on the song, and the context of the previous and following steps. The double stepping at the end of polyrhythm (from X) is perfect; follows the song, I wouldn't have it any other way. Can also be spun but doing that many spins would make me dizzy so I would only double step it.

Second Heaven feels experimental to me, as if they wanted to gauge player reaction to what is and isn't considered fun to most of the community. I think they have their answer. While some people seem offended at smooooch, the prevailing opinion seems to be positive, and I agree, it looks fun to play.

Fuck that. I have 10K+ simfiles, and expecting someone to memorize the idiosyncracies of a significant fraction of them to the level you're talking about is just unreasonable.

Also, for you people saying, "Making a step pattern gimmick that goes with the song is cool!":
Go play my chart for "The 7 Jump" a few times (in sig), then tell me if you want to play it again. I'm betting not even one of you will say yes, even though it's a good example of making a chart to fit the lyrics. Stepping to match something in the lyrics is cool about twice, then it starts to get old. Especially when you come back to the song after having not played it for several months, and realize that you don't remember how to do it properly anymore.

Speaking of licence songs for X2, better Konami revived some home console licence songs. (Like on SN2 before)
