"Care cup is empty! c[_]" |
I've had my own issues with children disrupting my play, so much that I made a thread about it years ago. Something I will reiterate is: for some of us that might be on the bigger side, certainly any snot-nosed brat above the age of one or so can clearly see that a gigantic person anywhere from five to six (or seven in my bestie's case) feet tall moving around really fast might not be such a good thing to stand right up next to?

"Bump all the forum games!!" |
Since we're all sharing crappy experiences with casuals, I'll talk about mine.
So I was at Wonderland doing a set of doubles on ITG about a year or two ago, and this kid comes near me and has the nerve to boss me around like he was the fucking expert. Keep in mind that this kid didn't look older than 12 and could barely pass one beginner song with a D! This kid was trying to tell me to return my feet to the center during my first stage and asking if he could play the next song because he thought 1 credit=1 song. I kept telling him that I still had two more songs to do so he wouldn't listen. I even had to get my dad and Jerry( the maintenance guy) to explain to his dense ass skull. But this kid was still acting both entitled and as dense as a rock, so my dad and I decided to let karma hand him his know-it-all ass to him by making him realize he didn't know jackshit. He then expectantly failed and walked away and I wasn't bothered again.
Other than that one time, I only had toddlers step near the pads while their parent tried to keep them off.

Anywho there should be a Dummy/Idiots guide video to DDR so everyone should watch it and pray that everyone understands how the game really works.

I may only be speaking for myself, but I personally don’t understand the anger some people feel when encountering casuals; both with showing anger in front of the person, but also holding that anger and holding that resentment to share to the rhythm community with some strong words.
I understand why to feel angry initially, like say they distracted you, but we have to remember we’re in a public area. So it's inevitable that there will be a person you come across that doesn't understand the games fundamentals. To us, it’s second nature with how the game works, seriousness with playing the game, and even just staying a good distance away from the machine when someone else is using it. To others, they simply don’t.
We have to remember that kids are kids. Kids don’t understand the seriousness of the game, nor do they understand the danger’s they put out for us and for themselves if the get on the pads. And if they aren’t as young and start acting entitled about the game, kindly talk to them about how the game actually works without putting them down. And if they’re insisting, be the bigger man (or woman) and let it go. It’s one thing to talk down on a kid for not understanding the game, it’s another thing to yell at the kid and/or hold resentment on the kid for not understanding the game. This also applies to teens and even adults who don’t fully understand either.
In short, just treat them right, it’s not worth putting all your energy on an individual you won’t see ever again in an hour.

I'm going way back into the past for this one. I was waiting to play on a DDR Supernova 2 machine, and there's a like a 13 or 14 year old kid playing the beginner charts of the default songs (I was 8 years old at this time, and X2 either had been released or was about to be released). He does his songs and finished with two of his friends watching him go. I take the pads and do Pluto
to warm up. I finished and the kid who was done made a lot of rude remarks that anyone could pass what I did, and people started to look at us after hearing him.
So I took advantage of everyone watching and did Pluto
. He was dumbfounded I passed it with a very low A score and tried laughing off his reaction (I was 1 step away from a B grade). Then I firmly sealed the deal on him when I did Pluto Relinquish
. I usually passed it with a high F or low D, but I went full on Bankai 9-Tails Super Saiyan mode and passed it with a middle B (That description though XD). He and his friends simply left the arcade mode, and the people who stayed to see what happened clapped and cheered for me.
Meanwhile, I can usually pass Pluto Relinquish
with a middle C score using my feet, with a rare very low B score. I guess I was that hardcore into proving him wrong that I can't summon the power again to pull off that score again...
Edit 1: Amen Quickman! A! MEN!

EVERY DDR ENTHUSIAST EVER: A KID PISSING YOU OFF WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING IS A RITE OF PASSAGE FOR A DDR PLAYER, RIVALED ONLY BY FAILING MAX 300 FOR THE FIRST TIME
You are not a real DDR player until you have dealt with at least ONE annoying child

I can't tell what's worse; a kid walking next to you and stomping on arrows as hard as they can, or (while you're playing IIDX), they bang hard on the Drummania pads. I almost literally trampled a kid by accident while I was playing Dancerush (they literally stood right behind me on the stage for a few seconds), and the parent nearby didn't do anything.
At least most of them are too short to reach the IIDX keys/turntable... ^^;

You're not very informative, tbh...
Anyways, can't wait for the new stuff to get released. I'm very eager to see/hear how they go about them.

Vanquish The Ghost is a fucking awesome song, but the speed gimmicks are gonna take a little getting used to. The Tokimeki Idol songs are pretty fun
I agree when it comes to little kids and that's exactly why i never get angry at them. But teenagers and adults, no. If it's a genuine mistake (ie they get right in your peripheral vision by accident), sure, that's just shit that happens sometimes and not worth getting angry about. But if someone who clearly knows better is being a dick (ie yelling and flailing on the pad i'm not using) then i am going to be a dick back. Despite how people probably perceive me on here, i'm actually one of the calmest, most patient people. But i'm not going let some jackass walk all over me.
It's funny because if anything, those are the two groups who have given me the least amount of trouble while playing dancey arrow smashy games

They sound pretty good.
Definitely deserve the 12 and 11 rating, respectively.
