"On ZiV I'm like Princess Diana"
There might have been certain things unlocked that have already been unlocked by those with e-amuse cards (Such as the hidden oni charts and the remixes), and so people who had already unlocked those songs wouldn't have noticed anything.

The MAX unlock should really be coming soon though. SuperNOVA2's unlocks went from August 22nd (release date) to April 10th (MAX unlock), a little under eight months. DDR X has currently run through December 24th (release date) to today, a span of 8 months, and hasn't been fully unlocked (But is pretty darn close).

Message from KONAMI about last Sunday:

Quote: James Anderson | KONAMI UK
Hi Guys,

Just a note to say thank all of the people who attended the event on Sunday.

We got so much valuable information and feedback from you all in such a short space of time. All of the information has been shares with the US and Japan and we are checking the forums to see any other feedback and comments.

I am really pleased that you enjoyed the USB edit function preview, I am sure when it goes live (not long now!!!) you will enjoy it more!

I hope that we can hold this kind of event a little more often when time permits.

Please keep in touch and please note we are watching! (the forums anyway!)

Anyway thanks again and best regards

"Give me a steady beat."
Konami: We really don't want you to think about the pads WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE USB?!?!?

LOOK! LOOK! USB, OVER HERE! HEY, LOOK AT THIS, no those are pads that's not important, USB!!!

Annoyed

Konami knows that the sync, the usb, edits, eAmuse and such are important but second in concern to the fundamental playability of DDR X. Sadly, and more sadly expected of them, they are willing to expend the maximum amount of effort to make the least amount of improvement to the pads.

That whole private invite read like a mob boss putting his arm over your shoulder and saying "Ya know we're very concerned when you're not happy... so here's what we're willing to do for ya. We'll give you a new software update that you can't even tell the difference between and tell everyone how to use USB if you say that the pads are improved even though we just muddled over that problem and that the game is perfectly fine by this, eh, 'update'. You think you can do that for us?"

With every response to this train wreck of a release Konami digs deeper and deeper a hole and proves they clearly don't care.

Quote: to Konami
Bring the entire dance stage unit on all North American and European dedicated cabinets up to spec with the Japanese counterparts or release upgrade kits for existing DDR machines in (Local and imported) so that we don't have to settle for your sub-standard construction and terrible level of quality.

Maybe if you don't totally fuck up the next release you might still have an audience. Thank you.

Konami -5 (again)

Aeron, they are caring and are looking at the pad issues at the moment.

I would rather have KONAMI asking us to go test to gather feedback directly rather than them not gathering feedback at all. I think everyone would agree here.

Positive points for KONAMI for feedback gathering, but yeah, negative points on why pad and sync issues were allowed to happen in the US/EU releases. It didn't exactly set a good impression with the community.

And more over, the USB was only talked about right at the end for a few minutes. USB wasn't the main subject, it was the pads for the majority of the time.

Also, the fact KONAMI took the time to arrange this on Sunday during the bank holiday weekend in the UK is enough to see KONAMI is willing to take feedback.

I think a lot of people have this false sense of entitlement about DDRX and that Konami some how "owes" us something. Koanmi has already went far above and beyond what any normal corporation would go through to ensure we get a better experience with their latest product.

Lets look at the facts:

-They took time away from a public holiday to make this meeting possible.

-They didn't invite joe shmoe to this, they know who the community movers and shakers are. That means they are taking the time to know the community to at least some degree and are paying attention where the hot spots area.

-They're taking the time to actually include edits into the machine. They don't have to even include those.

-They're trying different methods to improve pad performance.

-They're actually cutting costs so that more arcades can afford the machine. People complained about the high price of DDR machines. So they cut costs to make it more affordable. They messed up and they're still trying to fix it. Kudos to them.

Before someone pulls the fanboy card, what other company do you know of spends this amount of time and energy to correct what they've done wrong? If you got a shitty ITG machine, Roxor didn't send technicians out to fix your machine. The best Roxor did was give us updates on USB. Most of the "playability" that comes from ITG is the hacking of the machine and that's not the original intended purpose of their product. And realize that Konami is an international company that has many projects to work on. DDR is not their top priority but they're still spending valuable resources to correct their mistakes. If they were really out to drive DDR into the ground, they would have shipped the product and been done with it. And notice how they asked the players to tell Konami about places that did not have the software updates. They're not going to wait for the arcades to report the lack of software, they want to contact the arcades themselves. They're being proactive about this.

People need to be a bit more understanding that such a large company cannot possibly fix a global problem instantly. It's going to take time.

@AeronPeryton you've got to realize that the damage has already been done. in my mind scraping the entire X cabinet at this point will be at a huge loss since the time and money was already spent in developing, so even though that's what we want to happen its not going to at this point. they still have to sell this product and after we all know how poorly designed it has been, additional features that are done right are the only strong selling points.

@Diaz Konami owes something to the operators who buy these machines, a quality product. no matter how far above Konami has gone now, there's still the glaring point that if time was taken during the development and before machines started shipping that these little problems could have been avoided. it still boggles my mind why there was no location testing done, but whatever.

anyways, i do think Konami cares. I think the people who developed this machine in the first place didn't and I think Konami relied on the wrong people. now that sales have been affected due to all the negativity that has been surrounding this release, other territories have stepped in to correct as much as they can.

This. I hope KONAMI's learned something about the value of location testing a product before debuting it, even if the product has already been released in another region (but especially if the hardware is different).

They're trying, and I appreciate that. Communication helps a lot, and just hearing from them makes the situation seem more hopeful. I've still kind of written off X though; with everything that both KONAMI and the players have learned, let's bring on the next DDR and try to move past this disastrous release. My wish for the next release is that it hits all regions at the same time; a truly global release.

The problem is for this to happen other regions will most likely have to wait longer. I doubt that Konami would force Japan or America to have a belated release date for a game just for the sake of making things 'fairer' for Europe. I'm European and I know that it's just not happening unless it's convenient for the game's release.

I realize how my ranting comes off, and yes I am that mad. Few things get me riled up like this, and I'm not even living in America anymore, but making the mistake of allowing such a terrible machine was bad enough. All these "we're listening, but not doing anything" moments since is just rubbing salt into the wound and making me lose all of my respect for this company, regardless of branch. If it's not all of Konami, the rest of Konami is allowing it, if it's not Konami at all, Konami is allowing it. If Konami has their hands tied and aren't being allowed to do anything I just have to know... "How and why?"

Quote: al2k4

I understand that as the owner of a community site, and to keep the lines of communication with Konami open at all, you have to be indifferent regardless of your personal opinion.

Too much to reply to point by point

It's a good thing that you weren't addressing me with that entitlement remark, it's nice to see someone who doesn't oppose an opinion for the sake of it or go off half cocked.

There's a lot of things Konami is doing that they don't need to. And that's why it feels like all they want to do is take attention away from a critical mistake, they won't do the one thing they DO need to.

Konami doesn't have to release DDR at all, they don't have to exist as a company, we can strawman about that all night long but as long as they ARE a company, continue to release the DDR series and continue repeated claims that they care about the end user, would it kill them to try harder? The way they're behaving I think it really would.

There's a tiny company called Nintendo, in their early days they released a cartridge that after playing for a while would freeze the game. Effectively a system crash for a console. This problem actually only occured on some of the carts, not all of them, and even fewer people actually complained. They recalled them all. Every cart ever made with that software.

When they released The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on the Wii, a very small number of people couldn't complete the game because of a rare glitch that made a character disappear. They offered a replacement disc with the fix for anyone who asked, for free, no questions.

Product recalls exist for this very reason, the product fails fundamental quality checks, and would be to costly, too much effort to fix them. This is the first thing that should have come out of Konami's mouth, this is the first action they should have taken when it was apparent to THEM much less apparent to the end user.

Since they've chosen to do just about everything but the right thing, this is how they look to me as a company. Unable to admit mistakes, unable to act when necessary. I cannot respect them and I've lost faith in their abilities as a company that makes out right lies when they claim to care about their customers. They were always quirky, always trying to save money as every good company does, but they always managed to keep quality up and felt like they actually gave a damn. Not any more.
