That, and rando soccer moms are going to accuse you of "hogging the machine" while you're on the second song of your set, so by the time you'd reach EES they'd already be sPeAkInG tO tHe MaNaGeR!!!!!111

I sincerely hate it when like two middle school aged girls who have never played DDR come up to me while I'm on the first song and clap after it's over, only to then try to get onto the machine and they go "but you just played!"
Like, can you not read that I am on my "2nd Stage"?

You're being awfully generous by assuming they can read.

Sometimes it baffles me how new players just cannot follow the instructions that are clearly on the screen. Like I get parts of it don't make sense to you, but it still says "hit the green button"

The part that bothers me most is that like previous people have said, randoms believe that we are hogging the machine. Like, if they only want to play one song and then walk off on the rest of their credit it's their choice. But did the game tell me I was done playing? No. So then why would I not continue playing? The game clearly tells you GAME OVER when the game is finished for you, just like any other arcade game in existence.
It really frustrates me and I've had many people complain that I hog the machine when I'm simply making the most of the money I spent on it.

Regarding song length, I think it's great that we're getting stuff with lengths like Max Love, Brain Matter Explosion etc., and DDR Megamix. Just imagine if they made 2:30 length 17s and 18s. That could help bridge the gap between those and 19s (I mention this because I know that's a thing a lot of high level players have been asking for.)
It's just one song, DDR Megamix, that's ~2:30, right? Max Love is 2:19
Brain Fluid Explosion Girl (Asia exclusive) is 2:29
DDR Megamix, assuming no songs are cut, will be 2:40.
It's not too much of a stretch to think about, IMO.

DDR Megamix is 2:29 minutes if you want to trim the last few seconds to end to fit as one stage in StepMania.
The original length for Brain Fluid Explosion Girl from AC data is actually longer than 2:30. I trimmed the last few seconds and got 2:29.

If I had a dollar for every single time I've had to explain to people "you need to put in 2 credits for two player", I could probably buy 50 Ace machines. And sometimes they still don't fucking get it even after I not only explain that to them, but put in an extra credit for them off of my card to try to help them.

Yup. Like, on at least one occasion some drunk dad was straight up screaming at one of the local players when he was on his first fucking song of his set that he was "hogging the machine" and the dude even got the manager and one of the game techs involved. Luckily, the manager and game tech both knew how the game works and basically told the guy to calm the fuck down or leave.
Anyway, song lengths: New York Evolved Type B was like 2:16 or something if I remember correctly.

While we're on the topic of annoying randoms, anyone have experience with little kids jumping on the pads while you're playing? It happened to me for the first time the other day, and jeez I was pissed. As I mostly play for fun, the loss of score wasn't too bad so I just tuned her out, but goddamn she was fucking yelling and dancing between me and the screen. Luckily she was small so she didn't block it, but man if I were a serious player going for serious scores, I don't even know how I'd react lol.

I had some little kid repeatedly jump on my pad when I was playing New York Evolved Type B recently while the dad just basically sat there and did nothing, and only pulled him off the pad at the last possible second. I didn't say or do anything to the kid because I know that more often than not, little kids don't actually know any better so it's pointless to really get angry at them and I never get angry at dancey arrow smashy games to begin with. But I did kind of glare at the dad a bit because he seriously was not doing a fucking thing to control his kid.

Such things are rather worse when you're in the Philippines, along with playing other BEMANI games. :^)

That's because soccer moms are actually from hell, not because you're playing doubles. Also, the people that walk up to the machine, walk away, and come back 10 minutes later getting mad that they got skipped in line are always fun.

I can confirm this does not work with children. The kid (and the player) only have a much higher chance of getting hurt. I cannot tell you how paranoid I get when there is anyone within 5 feet of the pads I play on.

The same people who don't understand what I mean when I tell them to wait 3 minutes for me to pick and finish my last song, or cry out "why can't you just let me play right now?"Oh well. Have fun being forced to play a double chart on LIFE4 then. My dancer name says it all.

Part of the joy of DDR being über-niche here is that you'll never be bothered by kids wanting to play.
Because there are no machines to play on.

these problems
I hate that the casuals feel like we are hogging the machine but like it's like everything else in the world just wait your turn.
we do that when other players play.
I try to give casual lee way like letting them take my turn in line to just not seem like hogs.

If you go during the morning/afternoon where I live (downtown Philadelphia or Exton), you'll almost never see more than one person play DDR A at a time. It's not until night time that it typically gets busy.

In my area the Ace machine is popular but kids are generally not too bad here, I’ve only had kids get on the pads like once or twice and even then the parents apologised and got them off instantly.
When I went to America and played at D&B it was horrific, kids kept trying to get on the panels and the parents just ignored them.
I’ll admit I do hog the machine sometimes but no one really cares and they still wait their turn, I’ve only had one chav mum get mad and kick me off the machine and then get mad when her son failed his first song.

Shit like this is why I swore off arcade cabinets forever and exclusively play SM at home now.
That and there's no arcade cabinets near me anymore.
