If we roll over and take whatever gets thrown at us, people will make more things like... DDR PS3. *shudder*
My bias aside, a machine that costs like 10 grand should work as well as the ancient used-to-death machines that still live at other arcades. Players have every right to be ticked that new machines don't work like new.
And as far as X2 goes, nobody expects the machine to be indestructible, but with a little maintenance it should at least last like... long enough to pay it off.

Aegis: Do you feel proud of yourself for trolling? I still don't know if you've ever even watched real Pump, given all your blatantly false posts. Despite your trollin I'd still be quite happy to correct your false assumptions and impressions about dancing games.
To go back to Daiz's post: everyone's cutting corners on dancing game pads. You don't want Konami/Betson to copy the modern Andamiro. fyi Andamiro's always had a horrible reputation among arcades, ever heard of their crane/redemption games?

And to match that post of injustice - you took the bait - I just reeled in.
Serious post:
Let us compare other things Betson does to be fair then.

In other words, my local arcade has a really old and well-used MAX2 & Extreme (Japan), and the pads are better than my local arcades Supernova 2. This goes to say that the older games can hold up better then the newer ones, and I don't think I've missed a single freeze on the old machines, while on the SN2 machine it's nearly impossible to get a full combo or even an O.K. on most freezes.

Maybe if players nowadays didn't hold on to the bar and stop like their life depended on it we wouldn't have so many pads needing replacement. And to address that these pads are better than what the old ones were, our SuperNOVA which was upgraded from an Extreme machine has had every sensor replace last year and has had to have 3 more replaced less than 6 months. Oh but wait, pads were better back then.
I've played on X machines that played fine, I've played on SuperNOVA 2 machines that played fine. The 4th Mix + I just played on had random pad misses like crazy. Maybe the real issue isn't that Japan is getting much better equipment, maybe the arcade operators in Japan regularly maintain their pads so players don't experience what we experience.

Yup, that's absolutely correct, those sensors are lasting longer than Betson's X2 sensors.
Bar raping also has nothing to do directly with wearing out sensors. Holding the bar makes some players step less forcefully. I've actually seen, in person, people who play barless who step with a ridiculous amount of force, much more than people who bar. See also this.

@ yindesu: Not to be mean, but really man...

After SuperNOVA, DDR arcade pads have gone to utter crap. Year after year after year after year. Plus most arcade places in the Us are not like Japan, thanks to *cough*CONSOLES*cough*, unlike Japan where arcades a.k.a Game Centers are the driving force of Japan's gaming culture and what it's most famous for in the arcade scene. The US may never get to that point, in fact, almost every year i hear of an arcade close just because it can't keep up with the times/the economy. Arcades are almost really going to be a thing of the past.

@Max, I'm very aware that arcades are hurting. I'm also aware that Konami doesn't want DDR to die in the states.
@Chewi, thanks for contributing nothing at all to the topic.

Our gameworks in Phoenix has a brand new PIU machine and it works quite nicely. Pads n' all.

We're drifting quite far into Pump discussion though since I brought up American dancing pads in general I guess it can't be helped.
-Viper-, your "brand new" Pump machine at Tempe Gameworks isn't actually brand-new. It's actually really old (circa. 2006?), which is to your benefit.
Also apparently it's not working fantastically, because someone thinks the left side is "shitty", though the guy did give the machine a 9/10 so what do I know. (it's still old Andamiro pads though, which are not new Andamiro pads)
I promise you my statements about Andamiro's new pads being horrible aren't false.
1) Phil actually defended Round1's Fiesta pads, but he's pissed as hell about Round1's Fiesta EX (TX cabinet) pads: http://www.bemanistyle.com/forum/f52/round1-puente-hills-shopping-mall-57071/index36.html#536
2) LFEO has seen 6 brand-new Pump cabs around California with horrible pads: http://www.ph-online.net/locations/index.php?state=CA&sort=mixnew certainly more than I've seen.
