yeah, to guy i responded to earlier: if you actually go to the licenses screen during the attract sequence, all those remixes that debuted in X3 are there. chances are konami didn't license those for use in the US (yet?) so they removed them.

Now that the R1 test has concluded, here's the machine Top 30 list from late last night:

MAX 300. What a surprise.

wow, a bunch of old songs MAX 300 and POSSESSION snuck into there. For comparison, here's what the chart was 8 days earlier:

Let's not complain about MAX 300. Nothing pre-X is there aside from that one song.

There's also no pre-X3 songs as well (save for I'm so Happy, which wasn't even in our version of X2). Ideally, the list would be mostly 2013/2014 songs since there's an X3 a few feet away, but overall I'd say people did a good job of mainly playing new songs.

Temptiiiiing. Seems awfully soon, but I guess that's smart if they want to see more new people respond rather than the same out of towners each time they have a test. Not sure how many location tests I should wait out to see if there's going to be one remotely closer to me... my guess is not many tests, if any.

Hardest song in a mix that never saw over seas, so I'm not really shocked that PARANOiA REVO is on the most played list. As for MAX 300, that song is such a stable to DDR at this point that having it not in the most played list is stranger than having it. I honestly can't say I've played an arcade DDR where MAX 300 was not on the most played list.

It is worth noting that I'm So Happy is actually a medal song for Plan 8 for Boss on Parade. There were a number of people who were working on Boss on Parade stuff and seeing Plan 8 as well as I'm So Happy being on the list makes a decent amount of sense.

I'm getting really excited for this second test. Even though Kevin Bachus had announced it previously, seeing it happen so soon is a great thing.

However, I'm getting this sick feeling of history repeating itself. What if the same debacle that happened with X and X2 happens with 2014/2015? What if the locations tests go great, Konami decides to pull the trigger, cabs come out, and they're of a similar inferior quality as the US X / X2 cabs?

I don't think I'm alone in saying that the poor cab quality kept me away from my local arcade, which actually had an X2. It was rarely in good enough order to justify a trip. Please, if you're attending the location test and you have an opportunity to provide feedback, please have it passed on that 2014/2015 in a US X2 cabinet would probably see the same fate as X2.

I'm not too familiar with former location tests for DDR in terms of what kind of cabinet they used. I assume for X and X2, they used the US HD version for the location test. Note that Konami did make this new white HD cabinet just for the location test in the US (it doesn't even have a serial number, it was made specifically for location testing as the DDR game version in the title screen even denotes) so with that, it could be that they've learn from their past mistake of butchering the Japanese HD cabinet, making a US downgraded versions and instead, we'll get the real deal. That's just my speculation

I agree with you though, the X2 cabinet at R1 PHM is terrible. The 720p 37 inch is nice imo, but those pads are just a big no-no.

There's not really much they can cut from the white cabs. The pads don't even have lights.

I have a feeling we're gonna get the white cabs as-is this time; there's no flashy side-lights from the Japanese X-cabs or anything like that, and 1080p monitors are pretty much commonplace by now, so I don't see why they would think they would be too expensive to make, especially if they're gonna be making the cabs themselves instead of having a middleman like Betson.
