I guess arcade-scene DDR is just going through a "meh" spurt, sorta like what MegaMan did between MM's 4-6, or what Nintendo did during the N64/GameCube era. It'll come around again. I mean, look at KoF XI-XII! And MegaMan 9/& Bass!

I do agree that the arcade licenses could be better handled (charts for all the EU-home-version ones PROVE that), and that shoddy cover songs should be overlooked in favor of the few that DO turn out decent (Extreme 2's, for a good example). The Konami Original/Commissioned tunes turned out pretty well, though; and most of the Bemani crossover stages - save for maybe Arrabbiata - got really decent and fun charts. Probably the best of them - and they are kind of plentiful, but since local home versions divided the dozen in half, practically - it just looks like two helpings of too few of them.
Shoddy covers my foot, EXTREME 2 is the greatest NA release. Ever! KONAMIX is second, but that's another can of worms...
