wow am I the only one that actually plays DDR? When we got Supernova, I'd go back to Extreme and get pretty bored of it, missing the new songs like AA, Brilliant RED, Ki-Se-Ki, etc, etc, etc and new boss songs, fresh interface, characters, etc etc.

When Supernova 2 came out, I can't stand to play Supernova for too long cuz I like Marvelous timing, the new boss songs, stuff like the L'Amoure et la Liberta remix, Why Not, Bloody Tears.

I'm sure when DDR X comes out in a playable state, I will be playing it and feel the same way about Supernova 2. I wil love Taj He Spitz remix, Saber Wing, Horatio, the X-Specials, edit data, etc.

People who haven't even played the mix are judging it based on a handful of bad experiences, and rightly so, but I still say wait until you play it yourself before passing said judgment. If some of you people had it your way, we would have never made it past 3rd mix.

Soooo you say what. the. fuck? to me for not thinking that the wave of non-challenging very generic and boring sounding songs you call a "fresh new wave of dance tracks" but then go on to call SN2 a disaster, which is generally considered by most (and me) to be a pretty solid mix? Interesting. Yes, the new tracks are boring and I very rarely feel compelled to play any of them, and they do not even begin to make up for the songs that were removed. Add this to the new more annoying announcer, and you've got an inferior game (my opinion).

As for SN2s "Bulimic" easy charts, have you looked at X's songlist and converted the ratings back to the old scale? Most of them would be 6-7 footers, which is no harder than SN2, and 9 footers are basically non existent in the general songlist. Even X's boss songs are mostly 13-16 while SN2s were in the 17-18 range on the hardest difficulty. SN2 was harder and had much better music. As for the bridge between the general songlist and PRO, you had plenty of non-bosses like Arrabiatta, Uranus, Trim, and plenty of other 9 footers even though you say there arent any. X on other hand, has a genral songlist comprised of 8-10s with a huge lack of anything in the 12-14 range. The bridge problem is even worse on X and the new expanded scale only makes it more visually obvious.

All of these add up to why I believe that the game itself without a new machine is a downgrade. But no no, your right, I hate it soley because I have an irrational hatred of anything resembling urban.

Yo, this is 2009 here, not 1998. A lot changes in a decade. A new sound is just what we need. But then, the "generic and boring sounding" stance might just be Ultramix bias.

Oh, and nothing ever interested me about SN2. It didn't take me long to realize most of the songs and charts would suck.

X has PLENTY of old 8s and 9s, and not the "obviously a 6 or 7" type of which there was a LOT on SN2. True, some of the Japanese charts were iffy, but at least most of the charts were solid and not full of wimpy quarter sequences like in SN2. Even in the boss songs, you could tell they forced the difficulty in certain spots. SN2 had NO good mid-level 9s and not a whole lot of 9s overall, tbh.

If Konami had done it right the first time, you wouldn't be negating what's good. There were definitely a lot of high hopes for X when the location tests were being run and when it was around in Japan. Then it came to the US and it was like nobody cared.

First off, HERE is a good place for that argument. Somewhere loud enough that Konami might actually hear you.

Secondly, you're all referring to SuperNOVA 2 the *arcade* game, right? The one that DOES feature the older tracks, as opposed to the newfangled (yet nearly superior, IMHO) home version(s)?

I do agree that the arcade licenses could be better handled (charts for half the NA-home-version ones PROVE that), and that shoddy cover songs should be overlooked in favor of the few that DO turn out decent (Extreme 2's, for a good example). The Konami Original/Commissioned tunes turned out pretty well, though; and most of the Bemani crossover stages - save for maybe Arrabbiata - got really decent and fun charts. Probably the best of them - and they are kind of plentiful, but since local home versions divided the dozen in half, practically - it just looks like two helpings of too few of them.

X does have some really decent, and really ignorable tunes - just like any DDR game does. The main difference is that it has lots of rap and "dirty house" influence, as opposed to the brand's usual fare of happy hardcore and techno/rave. The boss songs on X are considerably better balanced than the extremes that SN2's were, basically building the "logical bridge" between older boss songs and the SN2 ones.

How many of you have played the charts for the boss songs, either? I'm guessing a fair number of those - particularly On The Break, on the bounce, Trigger, and SABER WING (Headshot Mix) are about on the level of difficulty most pros enjoy - it's just a shame that more pro-level charts on fewer songs is not the winning formula we're all looking for! Most of SN2's boss songs have formidably playworthy charts as well (totally overlooked by their difficulty-locking Final/Extra stage system, but oh well).

Also, the slower-paced songs in X with fewer steps does provide a different TYPE of challenge than what hyper-arrow-spazzing presents, as good scores/grades are more focused on accurate pacing - and maybe it's just me, but apart from the boss-level challenge charts (and the SN2 bosses), they're actually the hardest for me to AAA for just that reason. The biggest thing is that the game itself is changing, even if the players aren't.

And X is just the first step in the new direction. The newer commissioned artists will grow and shine, like many of our now-favorites, just give them a little time. Hopefully one that will escalate into being the next "EXTREME," reviving classic essentials and all.

Want my opinion? Aside from the obvious stupidities of the US AC release, this is probably the best arcade mix they've released in years. I know this'll hurt the feeling of most Bemani fans and all, but let's be honest for a moment. This game actually has music that people outside the Bemani fanbase can actually get down to. And it's not just a couple token songs like it was in previous mixes either, it's actually a decent chunk of the list. I'm not saying the list is perfect, but it's WAY better than anything in SN2 or SN1 for that matter. I'll tell you this, if DDRX is anything to go by in terms of what they plan to do for future releases song wise, I can't wait for DDR 2009 to hit arcades.

I can understand what your going here. Having tracks like Here it Goes Again and others attracts a new players, but what about the old DDR players? I fell like they are trying to have new players rather then make the old happy, and the old players is too big to just put to the side.

Actually, I think he's got a good point. It's the reason DDR X appears to "overlook it's core base," because it's particuarly attempting to appeal to newcomers. Had songs/stages like this came out around 2nd/3rd mix, I'm sure I would've been much more comfortable making my way up the difficulty range than I did back then.

I remember for an entire month, being able to SS or SSS BRILLIANT 2U Basic, and then FAILING If You Were Here. XD The jump from 3s to most 4s in 3rd Mix had about the same effect. (butterfly UPSWING Basic = a FOUR? Get outta here!!!) The advanced stages are already in play, this is mostly about giving newer people a way to build up... which will HOPEFULLY lead to more complex charts soon, for a broader audience to enjoy altogether.

Either that... or they're going to simply remarket what they've already made. Which would boo-urn us old-schoolers. (And face it - in both SuperNOVA 2 and DDR X for JP-PS2, that's really where the difficulty-balance has been, anyways.)

ORRRR... the rest of us really oughta ditch arcade/PS2 DDRs in favor of Ultramix/Universe titles - which actually DO have the difficulty/complexity that DDRcore people enjoy, as well as the musical taste; on a considerably more consistent basis. The only problem in those titles now is that they need to get their graphical priorities straight.

Maybe 888 is a bit too much, and Return of the Machines is a bit too little. But a really good portion of their tracklists are really well-made. Even crazy-seeming charts like Kiss Me All Night Long, once you've seen them a few times, are pretty good. And it's been a long time since I've seen charts as fun and catchy as Slow (Chemical Brothers Remix) or Big Up . Granted, the Universe titles could benefit from a *little* more modern arcade-influence... but overall, they're really enjoyable. They have the core 8-9'er/12-14'er influence that's been lacking in the recent PS2 titles, though somewhat at the expense of the 10/15-18 influence found in them, sans Universe 3. (Which really, actually DID get the balance just about right... only one or two "you'll never whip this!" charts - which let's face it - has kinda worked in FAVOR of songs like PARANOiA Survivor MAX, Pluto Relinquish, and Fascination -eternal love mix-, anyways.)

In fact... take a half hour or so sometime, get on Ballistic106 (Zukin-Man)'s YouTube channel, and just kinda "ADD-Master-Mode" with some songs and charts you may or may not be familiar with. A good number of them are right catchy, and pretty well-charted.

Granted, I'm no fan of being nickel-and-dimed for enabling content that's already produced - but where that's concerned, my money goes where my mouth does. Nothing prevents me from oni-edit-charting for songs on mixes I already DO own, anyways! And unlike the PS2's few titles that supported it - XBL support doesn't seem to have died for any of the past titles. (IIRC, even the Ultramix titles are STILL playable online.)

The last couple of posts goes to show how bored we are of DDR X already. Time to get some more/new info on the next DDR game already.

Just forget about this mix and let's wait for the next one.

If anything, what DDR needs is more accessories to unlock for the characters and less songs to unlock. we already have too many.
