DDR Custom Backgrounds

This is Al's site, but I doubt we need permission to post high resolution versions of custom artwork.


You could make all your future art in both formats and just take your time going back and making widescreen versions of all the old stuff.

Yea thats true about my future work but as for older stuff such as SN - SN2, i would literally have to redo the entire thing from scratch because for some reason I lost some of the PSD and AI files for them :/ I'll think about it and talk it over with Al.

Here is an idea...Why not use the 640x480 and add a common BG that make the BG widescreen with the logo of the DDR version that song is from?//

You can also view this as an opportunity to try different styles, doesn't have to be an exact duplicate of the 4:3 background. I.E. DDR UNIVERSE, some of the backgrounds are based on the original and some couldn't be more different.

It's also an opportunity for other people contribute, no one is saying you have to be the one to do/redo everything.

Ok well I've modified one of my bgs to widescreen so people can see the result. I talked to Al about the widescreen stuff but he said the current dimensions are enough so thats that. As for my future work, if anyone wants an HD/widescreen version of any background just let me know and I will send it via PM.

That's absolutely gorgeous. (Looks like you also moved the text. I honestly wouldn't mind if the widescreen/HD/w.e background was simply one with extended sides but if you want to actually do more with the design, fine by me ).

Now, I don't want to flood your PM box - I assume Al wouldn't mind at all if you simply posted in the non-stickied widescreen backgrounds thread? (Assuming you have no bandwidth problems with it. Otherwise I probably will end up flooding your PM box lol.)

I did that with this one cause it looked a bit too empty without the extra designs. I can post stuff in the non stickied HD bg thread with no problem but I would still need a list of which bgs you would like redone in HD.

I was going to say... if you're going to the trouble to redo some of them might as well post them where everyone can see them. Who cares if Al doesn't want them in the simfiles, I figured that would be the case, but when just about every new computer on the planet is 16:9 there are going to be more than a few people that would like to have them.

It's your website, so you have the final say on how the simfiles are represented. I've known for a while that you prefer 4:3 over 16:9. What I said was a response to silverdragon saying that he'd send backgrounds via PM which felt like a waste if he was going to spend time redoing them and they weren't going to make their way into the simfile database.

Those are not backgrounds, those are the album art from DDR UNIVERSE 3.

Yeah, real impressive...

(Funny how I did the same thing for all of my Uni3 sims lol)

Two HP3 bgs:
Heatstroke HP3
Freeze HP3

Since X2 uses the album art from HP3, I'll be working on these now too and now people will have a choice of which bg variant to use.

I agree. I also like the idea of posting HD creations for everyone in some organized way. I'm also an entusiast of HD backgrounds; they are the future and the sooner we get ready for it the better.

No bgs today but I have a small announcement. I have decided to convert the bgs to HD starting with the SuperNOVA era. I will only be converting SN - X2 but if it all turns out well, I will also do more from other mixes but nothing older than SN since those have to stay as they are because they will not survive the HD conversion. Now that all the X2 banners have pics up, new details can be seen so now I can also update bgs as well as convert them. Since I'm graduating with my graphic design degree soon, all my bg making will slow down but I plan on being done with the conversion by the end of this year. I'm not going to post or upload the HD bgs into the gallery since the 640x480 dimensions are still standard but if anyone would like any HD bgs just say so and I will be happy to send them over. I will be doing (presumably what Konami has also been doing) to all of the future bgs: I will make the master files in 1280x720 but when I release them for official simfiles, they will be cropped down to the standard dimensions. Sorry for the long post but I figured I would get this out of the way now
