Anybody who doesn't think that chart is totally convoluted nonsense, clearly has never played it on foot. I didn't say it was the hardest, but it's certainly up there. Even DEAD END (GRS) and PARA (HADES), terrifying as they are, are definitively pattern-based.

Thanks for the answers. I don't think I'm close to passing any of these, though >_<
I guess I should aim to pass Healing-D-Vision first? Everyone seems to consider that the "least hard" of the hard songs

Well, what are your weaknesses? Everyone seems to place Fascination MAXX
quite highly, but you'll notice I rate it the easiest of all 18s I've played (haven't played Trigger, but it looks only slightly more difficult), but perhaps I'm just better at streaming than most. So, what are your strengths and weaknesses with regards to jumps, streams, crossovers? Just generally, if you're good at streams, Fascination MAXX
is no issue; crossovers, then tackle Healing-D-Vision
, and jumps, well, the easiest of the jump monsters is Fascination ~eternal love mix~
. Little bit of everything? Trigger
has a bit of everything, but nothing overwhelming.
Also, you'll want to have tackled the 17s before going to the 18s, if you haven't already.
Trim might be pretty close up there, too; with it's deadly doublesteps of DOOM! Just below the rest of the list.
Trim is quite comfortable as a 16. The double taps aren't a notable feature of the song, I've never seen anyone have trouble with them. It's just fast and the ending has an odd rhythm (to me, at least). But the beginning is a massive rest and the slowdown is even easier. Before we start mentioning Trim, I'd say all current 17s are definitely harder (of which there are two... not counting Specials).

Uh.. I think I can handle streams pretty well. I've always been good at things like Boom Boom Dollar doubles. I can "twist" to the side really well, and I have a really low centre of gravity.
I'm not very good at jumps. I mainly play Pump, and jump in that aren't technicaly jumps, it's just hitting 2 arrows within half a second of each other. When I play pump, my feet don't tend to leave the floor. When I play DDR, I have to lift them, which seems really energy sapping to me. The mat I'm practicing on (cobalt flux) requires that you lift them pretty high, so I can't really cheat on jumps. I've never passed the Jondi & Spesh remix of Max 300 because of this, even though it's one of my favorite songs :{
I don't know what crossovers are. This is the first Bemani forum I've ever really posted on, and I've only heard the term, but never had it explained to me.
I'll have a look what the hardest thing on DDRX I've passed is. I have a feeling it's MaxX Unlimited or End Of The Century.
Edit : Oh, anything that slows down makes me SAD. I can't read above 400bpm.

There's a pretty substantial gap between END OF THE CENTURY and MAXX UNLIMITED.
Crossovers are where you have to turn your body. Patterns like left, down, right, down, left are crossovers because you generally have to turn away from the screen. When I say streaming, I mean just simple steps like MAX 300 where you never have to turn. Crossovers are things like the ending of Healing-D-Vision where you have to turn a lot.

I thought Eotc was up there in terms of difficulty, because the patterns make no sense?
I'll definately go for HDV Oni today!

I wouldn't feel bad Tyma, I'm definitely worse than you. I still tend to stick to doing Healing Vision Angelic Mix on Standard-err I mean Basic, although I've looked into the Difficult steps I haven't had chance to really learn the patterns so I get confused by them easily.
I like to practise songs a fair bit first so that I understand the patterns and Stepmania's assist tick really helps me with the rhythm, I don't tend to jump in and try a song I might fail or do terribly at while I'm at an arcade.
Another con I've found for DDR X AC is that the difficultly selection is confusing. I wasn't sure when I started playing if the up and down buttons were used to select the difficulty now or not, however it's alright for me because as a long time player I know about double tapping up or down to toggle the difficulty instead. A couple who had a go after me struggled because they thought the same thing I did at first until I helped to correct them, and to be fair I'm not sure why Konami didn't make them function this way anyway as it's not like they have any other purpose on the music select screen.

EOTC is silly and has an awful amount of double stepping (i.e. steps that would force a full spin but most people don't and just hit two consecutive steps with the same foot), but it's pretty firmly a 13. MAXX UNLIMITED is pretty good as a 15 as well, though I could also see it as a 16. At least, I've always been lousy at MAXX UNLIMITED.

I really want to try these songs again now, it's been so long.
P.S. remember, unless you're playing on X, Healing-D-Vision is using 16ths instead of proper triplets!

Awesome advice! I think I'm going to learn it inside out with Assist Tick and 0.9% Rate on my home mat, and then try and pass it a few times on that. I think it's harder to pass songs at home, because you don't have the option of dragging your feet across the pad, and there's no bar to grab onto, and take the easy way out, if I start to mess up the streams.
Until I've nailed it a few times at home, I don't think it's worth driving to a SuperNOVA 2 machine, to get a genuine arcade pass of the song, unless I'm 100% sure I'm going to get it on the first credit.
I don't feel bad? Why should I feel bad? I'm an above-average player, who's taking the first steps towards doing something awesome, and catching up with modern-day Speeders! Anyone who has the guts to play DDR in public, and works hard to make themselves better at the game should be proud!

I'll learn it at home on Stepmania (using ZIV simfiles), and then probably play it on a SuperNOVA 2, or a Japanese SuperNOVA (whichever is closer to me right now). Will the song be any different on those 3?
Thanks for the help, btw. I really appreciate the advice.

IIRC the simfile here uses the data ripped from the SuperNOVA HD, so it'll replicate the SuperNOVA version of the steps. So, between the simfile, SuperNOVA, and SuperNOVA2, there should be no difference.
EDIT: just confirmed the simfile is the SuperNOVA version.

Important Message for DDR Fans from Konami Amusement Team!
Edit: Agh, ninja'd.

Dear DDR Fans!
First we must apologise for the lack of communication recently, as you may have guessed we have been busy. However this is not to say we have not been watching and listening to the comments on the player websites / forums since the initial launch of the new DDR X machines.
We would like to thank you for your interest and your comments about the new DDR X machine. There have been many comments made about various points the new DDR X machines.
One of the most common points has been about the “Sync Issue”. We are aware of this issue and a “fix” has been developed / finalised and will be fitted to the machines in the market ASAP, it is going to take a little time to get it to all of the locations but we are working to get this done ASAP. Again please accept our apologies for this issue, it will be fixed very soon.
We have also noticed a lot of complaints and negative comments about Betson Enterprises on the forums. We would like to make you all aware, Konami are the ones solely responsible for the redesign and manufacture of the cabinet, Betson Enterprises are the exclusive distributor for the product in the US and are doing a tremendous job in the sales and distribution of the Konami product line and also in supporting our products.
On a more positive note we see a lot of you are asking “what are the USB slots for?” We can now confirm (although some of you already know) these are for the Dance Step Editor function we are working on. We cannot reveal the full details at this time, however we will be beta testing they system on Aug 11 before the mass roll out.
WEB Address: http://ddredit.konamionline.com/ (currently a broken link)
Looking to the future we will continue to check the web forums for comments and feedback on the products. We do check most of the major player forums on a regular basis but please feel free to post information and have discussions on the Konami DDR Community; http://www.ddronlinecommunity.com/
Thanks again for your passion and comments
All the best

Also I was glad to read that they read other forums, hopefully this one and definitely BMS, since I dislike the DDROC forums due to the inability to stay perma-logged in and lack of ability to go to new posts.

hey, i just posted that
Oh well, if you guys are lazy to click the link, then there ya go i guess
.
I wonder how the test will go, if it requires you to put in your USB to get the program, then by all means whoever lives near a DDR X cab that has a USB drive, DO IT DO IT!
Even though Tampa has 0 at the moment, i'll get it just in case one DOES appear.

Because I'm pretty sure that's the 3rd thing on everybody's list, after the sync fix and the pad fix.

It sounds more like Konami is taking heat for Betson so they can keep their business relationship, not because Konami is actually the ones making the English cabinets. I smell lies in that whole press release.
They also said nothing about fixing the hardware... and the bit about USB ports completely sidestepped the issue of them being there in place of SD slots as advertised over and over again.
The whole "apology" looks like it was written by a toothy-grinned lawyer, not any member of Konami's DDR team. Not anyone that has the slightest idea what's going wrong with the DDR series.
A software patch that is retroactive = good... now fix the other dire issues with your series (Including but not limited to the people you do business with). Your fans (while they still are) demand the same level of quality that we had been getting up until EXTREME, regardless of how badly you want to save money by cutting corners in production.
