He stopped to tell me that the machine is basicaly unplayable, and not worth driving up to Manchester to play :{
This is pretty much the truth.
The pads are terribly unresponsive, and there is blatent audio/visual lag.
I remember back at ATEI, the test machine was so responsive, you could activate a sensor with your little finger and not much pressure.
The new cabs are completely the opposite.
To activate the pads, you need to apply a decent amount of pressure. I personally step quite light, but my PA was way off.
There weren't many "pad misses" since the pads were registering, but when each pad needs an indeterminable amount of pressure to activate, it become nigh on impossible to PA.
So, the pads register at different speeds since you need to stamp for them to work. Some are more responsive than others.
Couple that in with an amount of audio/visual lag (you have to step late), and you've got yourself a really poorly constructed machine. In the time i played there, i didn't once score a AA. I was getting A's on songs that I've PFC'd on the machine at the Troc.
The pads themselves feel ok to play and the overall aesthetics of the machine really isn't that much of a sore point. One issue is because the pads are hard fixed to the cabinet, my brother watching me told me afterwards that i shifted the whole machine at least an inch or two from one song.
I can't say I'm surprised at this at all. Raw Thrills are handling it after all.

If I had the money, I'd happily buy DDRX, just to smash the fuck out of it with a hammer. It might be better that way...

Didn't they used to do that with PS3's back when people were camping out for them? *smirk*

To put a positive spin on it, Raw Thrills has come up with an innovative way of making the game more challenging!
I'm sorry that was wrong of me.

No no no, they've poured thousands of dollars into making sure that little kids stomping around on the pads won't make the pads less fun to play on. You should praise them for being successful in their hard work.I'm sorry that was wrong of me.

People have been doing that with pretty much every new console release.Post #7009 · Posted at 2009-07-31 03:35:54am 16 years ago

I'm still waiting for them to put bear traps on the panels, that would officially make me quit DDR forever.

Yeah, there's nothing worse than going up to play DDR only to find a very pissed off bear on the pads.

I know these boards are full of n00bs(except a few of you) but have you heard that DukAmok talked about playing on a "fixed" machine and that all places that have the game will get the fix?

I had heard something about a "second" pad fix (Many places received a "first" pad fix, which did not help in a significant way) but I had not heard that every machine would be getting one. Still, unless they fix the lag, I will still deem it to be bordering on the edge of unplayability.

Somehow I doubt that statement applies in Europe.

Well, it looks like the US release may be getting a bit better. June H. reports that an update has gone out for DDR X US machines that fixes most of the lag issues. June H. also advises that you contact Betson if your Arcade pads suck and they will come by and implement a fix for the pads. This apparently don't make them as good as a Japan dedicab, but at least makes it playable.
