Pretty sure SMiLE.dk is just cheap to license. And as a fairly obscure song not really known as any kind of hit, GOLDEN SKY is probably really easy to keep.
And remember, this is the game where they'll presumably be reviving and removing throughout its life, so some of these may come back.

It's written and sung by a completely different set of people than the older songs, and it probably isn't sub-licensed through Toshiba, since it wasn't part of the "songs for advertising" deal, so it might be more affordable.

Most of the songs removed are songs that Toshiba was giving Konami for next to nothing, but also songs which might have higher royalty costs in the western world? Smoke, Tenshi and My Fire are all songs I'd expect them to remove if they were considering the possibilty of a release outside Japan, but I'd also expect most of DDR X2 to get removed as well, so that's probably not the case.

Maybe Tenshi isn't sub-licensed through Exit Tunes after all?

Looks pretty good. On the song select screen it looks like there should be something under the song name and cover in the center. Even if its some purely asthetic thing that doesn't have a function.

That text font is god tier, only topped by comic sans ms

Which, as long as no one was axed, isn't a terrible thing... just quite a downer seeing as this is the last shot we'll have for a long time in seeing anything new for those guys. ._.

But as far as terrible aesthetics go... that... font... ;>_>
STILL, the whole thing is mountains nicer than DDR 2010, though.

Yeah, they own the Japanese rights to the song. The label is run by DJ Uto and Ryu*, which is why artists from the label are popping up all over the Bemani series now. Some of the licensed trance songs from DDR X2 came through an Exit Trance deal, as well as most of the licenses and some of the commissioned songs for X3.

It looks like they've completely replaced the HappyHardcore.com guys with Quake / Exit Trance guys now :{

Tenshi was licensed through Avex, along with Time After Time, Eternity, and Super Eurobeat (Gold Mix).

Maybe this was answered already, but what does the EX and SYNCHRO mean in those screens?

EX is EX score display. Which has been an alternate option in X2 and X3.

Wonder if EX score is now the default?

Synchro appears to be some combined combo or score between 2 players...

Could someone explain why EX score display is very low numbered... it doesnt reach to 1,000

EX score uses a simple point system to determine your score.

Marvelous and O.K. = 3
Perfect = 2
Great = 1
Good/Miss = 0

It is similar to scoring in Course Mode.

So the highest EX score depends on the total number of steps and freezes.

Here's the simfile for nightbird lost wing. The only thing missing is the stops because I'm terrible at them, but the steps are accurate.

I think Synchro Mode was mentioned earlier, actually. It's a new co-op mode, though it feels like something from CS...
