Not to be an out-of-the-blue ass but i'm going to have to refute your point with this: Research shows that religious zealots of any given creed whom of which are the likely author and biased statistic in your cited study, are a most hated and distrusted minority!
Visit a college campus and you'll laugh at the sheer bull being preached, but don't lump every faithful soul (like -Viper- lol!) in your deragatory stereotype..or you're the biggest fool in the crowd, being that noone else even buys into that bullshit anyway.

Alright I worded it awkwardly, so here's what I actually meant:
Regardless of what a person believes or does, SOME people in the U.S tend to be intolerant of people based on religion (or lack thereof) and/or sexuality, regardless of what their personality is. I did not mean EVERY Christian Conservative hates atheists. But in my area (and in others closeby), when I see religious intolerance, more often than not it's a xxxHARDxCORExxx conservative Christian, partially due to the large amount of them in the area. Sorry if I gave off the "every Christian is this/that etc" vibe, because that's really not what I meant.

So one of my floormates went literally crazy and classes havent even started yet
He was forcing people to listen to him play piano. Then he went to lobby and started tearing off his shirt. Then he went back up to his room and put on a suit...started cussing at the RA. At this point, we were asked to all stay inside of our dorms in order to not cause any more trouble. I dont know what happened after that because my brother was in the lobby with my books and i got to sneak out. I had to leave one of my roommates and three of my floormates in my room. As I was leaving, I kept hearing him yell "I'm from Dayton, Ohio! I'm from Dayton, Ohio!" I saw him get carried out strapped down onto a stretcher. As he was being brought out (i was outside the hall at this point), he kept screaming "I thought Ohio State had diversity! Come on! O-H!...O-H!" and no one responded I-O...except for one idiot.
Classes start tomorrow. I don't think I'll be able to sleep because of this. We are now "that floor"

*sigh* not to question your Christianity, but, you should know that Jesus even tells us that Chrisitans will be persecuted, spat up on, etc, ect all because of his name. (John 15:20) Christians, in general, are pretty hypocritical and this is coming from a devout Christian. So when you're hated, you're supposed to rejoice and know you will receive your reward in heaven.
But something tells me people's dislike for you isn't because of your religion :-\
