Z-I-v Summer Contest 2016

If I go back and adjust previous songs based on people's feedback, should I update them in this folder or put them in my own personal folder? I could see it go either way - put the best product out there, or preserve for posterity the small glitches that people voted on.

Obviously I won't change the double step until after this week's voting. (Can I claim it was an artistic double step, a la Healing Vision?)

Everything is artistic, although the degrees to which other people can believe or not believe they work with the song can vary greatly.


Like I said a few pages ago (sort of), those mines were a last-minute (temporary) addition to the file long after I finished the charts, and the footswitches weren't originally intended to be footswitches either, but spins instead. Otherwise, for the people who didn't want to do the spins, I wasn't sure how long it would take for someone to figure out that it was also possible to use footswitches to maintain flow and position yourself nicely for the upcoming stream, so that's my reason why they're there.
But will their inclusion work to my advantage? I guess we'll see in a week.

I got a Mid Week song or two planned, but they'll be released once I have internet to submit. (using phone to catch up to updatez, gg x.x)

Also, one of the songs is cutting it close to the song duration limit at 2 minutes and 29. Will that be okay?

As long as it is under 2 minutes and 30 seconds, it's fine.
(Tip: Remember, people might feel like a simfile drags on too long and might not like it)

Question- If my song is 4/7ths 140BPM (it has half time sections that lower it to 70) does it qualify? The previously mentioned "leak" may not be true.

Is 4/7ths referring to the time signature of the song, or the time the song spends scrolling at 140BPM? If it's the latter, then it does not qualify as that is only about 57% of the song scrolling at the qualifying BPM when the theme states it has to be scrolling within the given range for 80% of the song (in seconds). If you are, in fact, referring to the time signature, I guess it still qualifies assuming it is scrolling at that BPM in the qualifying amount of time.

Are gimmicks (such as this at 130) BPM acceptable for the range of 80%?



Both values fall well outside the 125-160 BPM range but cancel each other out.

Either way, no gimmicks from me this week, both songs I have ideas for will scroll at a steady pace.

I mean, technically no, but if you're using gimmicks like that, I doubt those would add up enough to disqualify the file.

So just in the off chance anyone is curious, I actually had been working on two other files for Voiceless Week; one for Poltergeist and one for Scharfrichter. Poltergeist was a pain in the ass to step and I gave up about halfway through making the first stepchart. Scharfrichter I actually did finish and technically could have submitted if I wanted to. Problem was, even though I think came out really well, was a god-awful mess and I couldn't figure out a good way to make it fun, and the lower difficulties kinda sucked as well. tl;dr I picked two songs that just didn't work out for me and didn't have enough time to make a third fourth file.

Now that I'm done rambling about nothing, have some votes.

I had put it as an 11 partially because of the plethora of 24th notes and I thought I'd be called out for it being actually an 11 instead of a 10, but OOOOKAY now I know I was wrong. Last time I put a bunch of those in Hoshi Furu Yoru no Adenium and was told to rate it a 12, though looking back it was most likely the high BPM being the reason.

I agree with it being an easy 10, or maybe mid FA 10.
