I'm gonna be very honest with this project. *readies fire extinguisher/hand grenade*

I had doubts when this was just starting out, when all the screens showed at that time were mockups and that the features being touted were, shall I say, quite ambitious for a stepmania theme. I was setting myself up for disappointment since I've seen lots of promising themes go down the drain:

- tweak's DDR Extreme for SM4, in which he made liberties with the design (but this is tweak we are talking about, though)
- DDR Extreme 2
- Project Diamond for SM4 by makers of DDR Newnovae (since kizamaZero's SN2 theme was a straight up re-skinning and had performance issues)
- sillybear's themes, which he'll likely only release on a "PM me for a link" while he teases us with youtube vids.

But that all changed when video footage for the alpha version came out (I know it looks plain, but I've downloaded and installed assumingly finished themes that looked so spartan, like some of NAKET coder's works). You may be noticing that there might be someone who hasn't spoken about this project, but after lurking around and seeing the progress as it unfolds, I am now confident that you and your group can make this happen.

It's no problem. I appreciate the honesty. Funny thing about that is: I also had my doubts when I was drafting all these themes in the first place. I didn't expect the theme to actually go into the production stage because I thought Stepmania would not be able to handle what I wanted it to do. It was kind of like an easier-said-than-done kind of thing because that's how many things in life tend to behave: theory always sounds good but making it is another matter. I, too, saw all of those situations you described and it made me very nervous because I didn't want something of mine to fall through either and it was becoming apparent in the several months after the announcement because nothing was getting done in any way shape or form. It seemed to stay in the idea stage for too long and if it had continued, the whole thing probably would have stopped there.

There also the problem of how dynamic I wanted the theme to be. I can make the most brillant and immaculate theme with my skills but doing that can usually make things a living hell for those who have to code everything and the last thing I wanted to run into was hearing things like it can't be done because it's beyond SM's capabilities. That would mean I would have had to drop several features too if it came to that.

Finding competent and dedicated people was also an issue but luckily I found my team of champions to be able to make this happen. We all communicate and express ideas/concerns about the theme and resolve them rather nicely hence why the main screen looks different from my mockups. Even now, certain theme elements are still being updated as I break them apart and hand them over to Devin and I'll also need to give everything a final polish and review before releasing anything. It's because of Devin's expertise that I am also more confident that the entire project will yield something on par(or better)than Konami's quality. We've had so many cool and interesting developments happen lately but I'm not going to divulge anything so you guys can see for yourselves.

so I wonder why people don't read the first page thoroughly and suddenly bump the thread with "when will this be released?" comment. really, when I hope there'll be any updates regarding this theme (fyi, I always check this thread weekly), it turned out to be nothing.

Yea sorry about that. Everyone involved has been too busy with several other things for the last few months so that's why it looks like progress stops entirely. I still update several interface elements a few times a week and all but the theme won't receive a major update for a little while. Obviously my 2012 deadline isn't going to be met but it will get done sooner or later and I'm somewhat used to my deadlines not being met on the time I want. Plus this is an amateur project so I can't have people working on it daily like a full time job otherwise we'd be done by now.

I think out of the entire STARLiGHT team, I'm the only one that's done with college and stuff like that so that's why I can work on it on a daily basis. In any case, we should be able to resume sometime soon and things really kicked into high gear ever since Devin was appointed as my coder so I'm thankful for his help.

It's slowed down a bit since the holidays are approaching and many people are busy finishing up their school semesters but it will kick back up soon. The only new thing I have to show is just the revised characters on the Select Style screens. That's about it.



Alot of people think that's me on the DDR platform. :x

I wanted to use official DDR characters like usual but I can't find any high res versions anywhere. I could redraw them all by hand and put my own artistic touch to them but that process takes so long. D:

haven't asked this for a while, but

will this theme supports Lite mode like waiei? Looking at the preview, it seems that this theme will cost a lot of memory so people with slower computers will have problem using this theme
