It's not the A-game stuff anymore, but it's good that the game is still viable.
...and probably an indication that DDR 2013 is behind schedule.

And how do you figure that? DDR2013 is slated for March. There's still 3 months to go before release. Similarly, X2 wasn't fully unlocked until two months before X3's release with the full unlock of Theory of Eternity.

Here's another theory then, they're using continued song pack releases to test the download/install functionality they intend to use for DDR.

Yeah, hard to believe they did this because DDR 2013 was "behind schedule" since the songs were unlocked on three other BEMANI games at the same time. It's just an event. I'm so Happy and Theory of Eternity were unlocked long after we thought X2 was done.

They have been doing this since SuperNOVA. With Beautiful Life, the GROOVE RADAR specials, the APPEND FESTIVAL events (and probably APPEND TRAVEL), and KAC songs.
So that theory is null.

So that theory is null.
I certainly never said anything definitively, just thinking out loud (I think that's what these message board things are for). It wouldn't be the first time a "null" theory of mine turned out to be true.

Actually, we saw those two songs coming from a mile away. Not the songs specifically, but it was expected by a number of fans that one more planned unlock was coming even before the append festival was announced.

You responded to the wrong thing I guess. I was responding to you thinking aloud that this is a test for the download/install functionality, which actually already existed back then.
If Beautiful Life was successfully implemented, that should be enough to confirm that the download/install capability.
By the way, what happened to all the online patches anyway? And the supposedly changing themes? Should they test it? I thought they should have some kinda sandbox/local machine to test stuff on, just like PW?
AFAIK DEGRS wasn't in some SN2 machines here, despite the presence of the other GROOVE RADAR Specials.
And apparently now Aeron is a good source for far-fetched theory that might turn out to be true.

I'd like to see you walk up to a network administrator and tell them that installing a patch to a Windows server is the exact same thing as installing a patch to a Linux server without getting laughed out of the room.
Between SuperNOVA and X3 not only is the software different, the hardware at the base level is different. You went from an Emotion Engine to an x86 platform, running different parent operating systems. Installing Beautiful Life into SuperNOVA will tell you jack bo diddly about installing a patch on X3.
Yeah, you can sandbox and test things up and down the block and it still won't tell you everything about sending data to live machines on location. Were there not a few patches that went out to previous machines that caused quirks and glitches that had to be patched again? How did that happen if they already knew everything there was about patching these machines?
There's a number of things they could be doing (And for you benefit, the following is not hard fact. This is just thought and speculation - because neither of us know for sure). They could be sending the data over updated encryption, they could be using different file formats should that be the best solution for a future machine that is made up solely of song packs. For all we know, the entire X3 machine from beginning to end was the test for DDR to see how it could handle certain underlying things. Things that you'd never ever see on the surface but are obviously important for making the whole show work.
This continued continuation of X3 is a little surprising. LOVE IS THE POWER RE:BORN clearly book-ended the mix and yet they put out two unlocks since. As far as I'm concerned this latest patch feels more like a jubeat song pack than an unlock.
Time will tell.

i don't get most of what you're saying since well yeah, I'm just player, I don't get touchy feely with the machines/systems so I'll just take in everything you say with a pinch of salt.
or maybe with a rock salt, idk
also i don't get "yes this song marks the end of this mix, now you wait till next year when we release the next ddr" thing, it seems a boring wait. all this is just an event (Tsugidoka!) much like the APPEND shit, unrelated to X3 itself.
and i heard people complaining about these new stuff since it doesn't fit X3's theme (if there's any). it's new songs to play.

Well if you don't understand how software and systems work then maybe you should just take my word for it. Cause... I do.
The whole "this is the end of the mix" thing is how it's always been with the DDR arcade series... but that's obviously changing now. I don't think that the new songs don't fit, especially since the whole mix doesn't really feel like it fits quite as well as X2 did with its debut tracklist. But in and of itself, the most recent patch definitely feels different and carries telltale signs that it's not your average append. There are possible reasons for this, but nothing certain so far.
Which is why I said "Time will tell."

Your theory may hold some merit if the unlocks were specifically for X3, but they were transplanted to three (soon to be four) other games as well. Nothing about this comes across as anything more than just your run-of-the-mill event unlocks that have become increasingly frequent in recent years, especially as BEMANI games are gradually moving towards a system like jubeat saucer and DDR 2013.
By the way, I'm predicting that Cosmic Hurricane will win the contest.

*shrug*
Yeah, the idea that they did this to buy time for DDR doesn't hold water, but the idea that they did this to ramp up for this new method of distribution does very much so.
