Summer Contest Balance Patch 7.0.2
I have two optional solutions.
No. 1: If a user submits two files, the average of the two files' scores, rounded up, is their score for the round.
This way, people can dump their simfiles, and still be balanced out with the rest of everyone.
Oh, and also, this would only could towards overall score. Each simfile is still scored individually when referring to the round as a singular unit. (so files earn top 3, not players)
No. 2: If a user submits two files, the files are scored as a package deal, and the player is voted on rather than each file individually. This would save voters their 15 points, but also defeats what Nezemarth just supported about criticism.

1 : User submits two files, one gets 50 and other one gets 0. This means that it's fair towards user that he will get 25 points for round?
2 : This once again makes people with two files to have better chance at winning round. Assuming that user A likes song 1 and user B prefers song 2 this can give 10 points to submitter.

I believe Lisek has a point about Solution 1. My compromise (for the overall competition) would be to allow each participant who submits 2 files all of the points of the higher scoring file, plus about half of the points from the lower scoring file. (So, if two files from a participant garnered 40 and 20 points, the total of the week would be 50.) This would still give those who submit two.files per week an advantage, but hopefully lessen it to to the point that two 'okay' files.l don't surpass one excellent file.

@Lisek For solution 2, the two files would be voted on together as if they were one file. You'd have to give a point value appropriate for the two files together, not 5 points if you like only 1 of them.
So one would vote for "Neo Generator Seven + Death By Glamour [LegendaryDJXYZ] if both of my Missed Connections files were submitted in one round, and I was being voted for.
That being said, Nezemarth's solution is pretty good, even if double submits still get some advantage. That is an option.
EDIT: Point taken from darkanine. Nezemarth's solution looks like the way to go, by that logic. What do you think, Pandemonium?

I agree with Lisek. If we were to take the average of the two simfile's scores, it would give people who submit two files a big disadvantage. If we look at the first round totals for last year's contest, you can see what I mean.
TOTALS:
If we compare the 1st place score (52) to the third place score (27), you can see that the 1st place score is almost twice as much. This means that someone who had only one file that got 2nd place would get the same amount of points as someone who got two files which got 1st and 3rd. Let's use the totals as an example.
2nd = 40
1st and 3rd = (52 + 27) ÷ 2 = 39.5 → 40
That doesn't seem fair in the slightest. Also, if someone got 1st place, but also had an average file, they would be miss out on almost half their points.
1st and 20th = (52 + 5) ÷ 2 = 28.5 → 29
However if we add the totals, you can see that it is fairer.
2nd = 40
1st and 3rd = 52 + 27 = 79
This seems much fairer. Getting both 1st and 3rd place is an incredible feat and deserves a lot of points.
1st and 20th = (52 + 5) = 57
This is also much fairer, because they still get the 52 points they deserve, plus a little more.
One last scenario. If someone were to get 2nd and 3rd place, they would only be 15 points over the amount of points for 1st.
27 + 40 = 67 (Only 15 more points than 1st)
Remember, submitting twice as many files does NOT mean twice as many points. It will probably result in a point gain of up to around 50% which isn't that much considering they were able to submit 2 files every week. Therefore I think the scoring system should be left as is.

Two files a week wasn't a problem for anyone last year, why should it be a problem this year? Also, I think that the only thing that "matters" in this kind of contest is the weekly rankings since participation is not obligatory every week, and there are no "prize" (like being the host of another contest) for the whole points.

Also if vincentw does a spreadsheet thing this year (which was really cool), you can see who won based on other methods, like points per simfile and most 1st to 3rd medals, as well as a bunch of other stats.

Here is my onion: as someone who doesn't necessarily participate in the contest to get the most points and "win" as many weeks possible, rather to simply get the creative juices flowing, I don't see the problem with 2 files per week besides it maybe meaning spending more time judging files. While I understand the concern, one upload per person could also end up being problematic toward the end of the contest when participation usually dies down. By the last few weeks, I'm pretty sure we're lucky to even have 8 participants since people are going back to work, school, etc. The fact that we'll probably be ceasing the contest mid-September might even make that number even smaller, which makes me kinda nervous.
To me, the Summer Contest has always been more about growth and learning more than trying to "outperform" the competition, so I prefer being allowed to submit 2 files as it would allow more opportunities to gain knowledge of stepping, but if we end up deciding to only allow a single submission per week, I probably wouldn't be too disappointed.

This is basically how I feel. I like having the option to submit 2 files not necessarily to try and get more points, but to try something new or different.I also think the proposed changes about voting for files submited by the same simfile artist are convoluted and unneeded.

The 1st to 3rd stats is on my end-contest stats pic, not spreadsheet. Although, now that you've mentioned it, I might add it. No promises, though. And I'm in too.
About the 1 or 2 files, how about a compromise? For the first half of the contest period, only 1 file is allowed, then for the second half, 2 files are allowed. This way, there won't be so many files to judge on the early weeks, but when interests begin to wane, there will be enough files to keep the contest going.
I'm whatever with both tho since I submit 1 file at most per week.

We can change it to one file a week. I believe it was two to start but then got bumped down to one later in last year's contest. I honestly don't remember. It might make things much easier to manage.

I remember for the 2013 file contest that participants could submit up ti 3 files for the first round, then it was temporarily reduced to 1 file per week, before 2 files per week was reached as a compromise. Like someone said on that thread, having to files per week allows for some experimentation, but it really shouldn't be overbearing.
Personally, I wouldn't want Vincent's compromise to be enacted because by that time, school starts for me, making it a lot harder for me to make 2 files/vote. It would cut down on the number of files to vote, but I would think that Summer would be the best season for having a large amount of files to vote. (If only one-two charts per file were played, then playing 40 files should only take ~160 minutes at the most, assuming an average of 2 minutes per file. Surely every participant can find that amount of time within each week for voting.)
If I recall, it was part of the final theme of last year's contest to submit only one final song.

Last year was two files per week except for the final round where the theme was literally "You can only submit one file this week".

Agreed 100%. Even though there's points and stuff Summer Contest is really just for fun, there's no need to over complicate things.

This actually sounds like the best option now. If it ain't broke except for during Week 1, why fix it? Plus, wouldn't this encourage players to make more content anyway? When was that a bad thing? (except the first week, yeah that would get overcrowded)

Going to leave this here: I am never going to submit two files a week anymore, it is really time consuming. Mostly when school starts and having two jobs it is very difficult.
