This is a weird franken-theme between DDR 2013 and DDR NG. I like it.
Screen filters don't work. I know this is an alpha, but it's an issue nonetheless.

Progress is slow but steady. Feel free to do your own modifying to the theme.
If anyone would like to contribute be it graphics, music or coding please let me know.

You should consider fixing the background filters, McPluto, and then submit the fixed code to riskofsoundingnerdy. You'd have working screen filters and be paying back the favor of an otherwise free theme that you enjoy using.

Screen filters work for me, but the header and difficulty stuff don't. I think mega can sometimes mess up big downloads like this; maybe consider uploading to something like Mediafire?

Don't use SSC. It's an old, unsupported version. Use SM5 beta 4 instead.

I can't code. I was just bringing up an issue. Also, shouldn't you 'pay back the favour' by fixing the issues that you brought up in your post, as you obviously have theme coding experience?
Edit: After a re-download, the filters are working fine.

You say that like people can just pull theme code out of their ass. It's not that easy.

I assumed that was the case.

I was just bringing up an issue.
It is my opinion that you were being critical. In your original post (you've since edited it), you stated that you needed to rescind your initial compliments and that the theme was unplayable. To me, that is needlessly critical.
It's a bit of a knee-jerk reaction on my part, since I've been told countless times that my own theme was "awful," "terrible," "gay," etc. I found the theming process to be stressful. It took 15 months to complete Simply Love. That is more than a year's commitment that I did out of passion (no one paid me) for the game and the community that plays it. While making the theme, and having people test it, I received LOTS of criticism. It's released, and I still receive lots of criticism. No one (pretty much no one except for Kyzentun, Mad Matt, and djpohly) helps. Everyone points out shortcomings. It is stressful.
Making a theme has tempered my capacity to criticize other themes and other themers. It makes me "walk a mile in their shoes" before I even set eyes on their work. The solitary nights (night after night after night) spent coding, the palpable anguish when you need to abandon something you wasted fourteen days on because it isn't coming together, the visceral pain when the internet criticizes what you have done, demands it be completed faster, and doesn't offer to help. You could say the experience cultivates empathy.
I know you don't know what I'm talking about and I don't ask that you take up coding/theming to find out. Just... please, be thoughtful when posting. I apologize for coming across as derisive; that was not my objective.

I do not intend to use this theme, personally, but I did re-encode an avi to mp4 for riskofsoundingnerdy. I can also offer advice via PM, if riskokfsoundingnerdy is interested.

Hey everyone, sorry for the delayed reply.
Due to pkwp's absence, progress on the theme was halted but we are getting back on track.
Thanks everyone for the feedback
@ dbk2 thanks for the advice and the compressed mp4 but I can't open the file (it may have something to do with the download).
@McPluto the screen filters have been changed from the DDR2013 theme version (those that didn't work for you) to the decimal version in DDR Next Generation - I'm not risking the userprefs stuff from the DDR2013 theme.
@kenny the reason the placement/size is different in OMG KON!'s videos is because his machine is the old generation cabinet (640x480 iirc) and this theme is built for 1280x720 (DDR2014AC ratio).
@people who want the random movies underlay, that'll be there in the update
Anyone who has any problems with this theme (errors, crashes etc.) please post some details about the problem so I can do my best to fix it.

@ dbk2 thanks for the advice and the compressed mp4 but I can't open the file (it may have something to do with the download).
The mp4 may not open in Windows Movie Player (I wouldn't know; I don't really have access to Windows), but it plays fine for me in VLC Player and, more importantly, StepMania 5.
On the topic of keeping filesize down, I ran this in your theme directory:
Quote: Terminal
ls -laR -S ./DDR\ 2014/
...out of curiosity to see if any other large files existed. On a Linux or OS X command line, that command will list every file, sorted by filesize.
Long story short, I was able to reduce the size of your ./Sounds/ directory by 676%. Here's what I changed:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ScreenEditMenu Music (loop).wav - was 65.2 MB, is now 228 KB. This was a 12-second loop repeated 20 times as uncompressed WAV. Since the (loop) part of the filename tells StepMania to loop it, it doesn't need to repeat within the audio file at all. I cut the audio to be 1-loop in Logic Pro and exported to .ogg (quality 5) using Audacity.
_Common Menu Music (loop).wav - was 43.2 MB, is now 232 KB. Exactly the same process as described above.
_Course menu (loop).wav - was 4.6 MB, is now 547 KB. Exported to ogg (quality 5) using Audacity.
_Music credits (loop).mp3 - was 4.1 MB, is now 2.1 MB. Exported to ogg (quality 5) using Audacity. I should note that this file is not actually a loop despite being labeled as such. I wasn't able to cut down the audio content any.
1631.wav - was 4.6 MB, is now 0 bytes. Deleted it. This actually contained the same audio content as _Course menu (loop).ogg, so there's no need to duplicate it. Additionally, you never actually called it from anywhere in your theme, so it was just taking up space.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can download a zip of these new files here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/dd8sgx3e8fx7tmk/new-sounds.zip
