Opinions about DDR stepcharts

If there is something I'd say about the charts of boss songs, I can give almost all charts a + for not ending up too generic (most 10+ ITG songs (1 and 2) fell into that trap, more often than not).

However, this could be a pro/con-situation... we all know how for example DEGRS, VD and PRevo ended up, I don't need to elaborate further on those... but still I really enjoy playing for example New Decade , Revolutionary Addict and LondonEVOLVED (Ver A)

As far as stepcharts go for me, I mainly just worry about if I can pass it or not. Of course I also like if the chart is fun and has some kind of groove to it, but I know that some charts are just too difficult for me to do and I just blame myself for not having enough skill to pass it.

It's just lipstick on a pig.

tbh, that was actually the first 11-footer I ever completed (and to this day, the only, I believe).

To be honest, ITG doesn't deserve QUITE as much hate as it gets over here. I mean, some songs are really good, like Remember December and No 1. Nation. Queen of light is pretty cool, too, but some are really... bad. Like Utopia.

Euphoria is pretty awful, too.

Anubis, imo, is kinda hit and miss because some of the patterns in that song seem to follow a rhythm that doesn't actually exist.

But my main complaint, as you said, Ben, when you complained about DDR, is that a lot of the songs sound the same to me. Too much techno, not enough variety.

Hard to really bring the thread back on topic without people repeating themselves. After a while you just get the same opinions over and over again (about DDR).

I think that charts become more of a chore than anything else around the 17/18 range. After that they just get stupidly difficult and look like crap. Either you get gimmicks galore or long/fast streams the entire song. That's pretty much the only way a standar-length song can even be that difficult. 15-17 songs tend to be a little more comfortable and fun, and you usually don't have to step super fast or deal with stupid gimmicks (unless that's the only reason the song is hard, like Sumidagawa). It's nice when the chart focuses more on being difficult through the actual steps than gimmicks and speed. On the Bounce <3

One thing that could possibly make some enjoyable 19s or 20s is long versions, but they weren't rated any differently on DDR II (which was a bad move imo). Seriously, 4 and a half minutes of New Decade is not just an 18. Only question is if Konami would put long versions on AC.

Anti-Matter has fast streams, but it's pretty amazing. I feel the same about Mei, though I know a lot of people don't like that chart.

I like certain charts and dislike others.

Well the Mei challenge chart is pretty well made, has a lot of fun patterns and
well we cant all be perfect, right?

I actually kinda enjoy playing 888 Challenge....

though even having the song highlighted makes me kind of woozy as it IS a really nasty stamina drainer


that and Mei Challenge are my favorite 18s to play on DDR

They tried to, in DDR 5thMix and DDR X (sort of, those Xmixes counts as "long versions"). But they failed, kinda. Those long version songs "are not really popular" according to them, so they scraped that idea... I still wish they still put long versions in the new mixes tho....

Opinions.

Ben opened Pandora's Box, and it seems it may not close until he either replies to Silverhawke's question or we pretty much drive this train towards the docks.

I honestly do not care, I play charts and I really can't say what is determined 'good' by the general populace and 'bad', I pretty much take it or leave it in some cases. I haven't played too much ITG to really know and compare charts to DDR, but from what I've seen, it almost certainly requires you to stay centered and use little to no motion (other than your feet) to pass the song.

It was most recently done in DDR II. If I remember correctly, I believe every license in the game was available as a DDR cut and its full license length and some of the Konami Originals had long versions to play as well.
