So Cal is highly flooded with extremes, crappy bootlegs, the SuperNOVAs and the occasional X machine.

Here in Madison (Wisconsin), I'd say Extreme, or more accurately, none at all. Very, very little DDR presence here, unfortunately. More if you go up north to Wisconsin Dells (Supernova) or east to Milwaukee (DDR X / ITG2), but not much here.

Oh, I just remembered! Aside from Extreme and the one ITG2, there's also a very old DDR USA in some movie theater lobby on the complete other side of the city.

I'm surprised there are still just so many Extreme cabinets in North America. On the flip side, Extreme cabinets are pretty hard to find here, even with all the DDR cabs (most .jp gamers finished what they wanted to do with Extreme 6 years ago anyways). The most common mix around this "city" (The hamlet of Tokyo) is X2 by far. There are still older mixes in some remote places, but they are pretty much abandoned. Good news if you want to play some old-mix exclusives or have a trip down memory lane.
EDIT> There are no ITG or PIU machines anywhere.
