has this already been said at bms (I'm thinking yes, since it's sherl0k). but for something of this magnitude, it's not even at the front page the last time I went there when this broke out.

It would be kinda funny if this gets picked up by a news station.

I only did this to spur some fun into the seemingly boring life of DDRUK.
I also posted it here because this is probably the second most-visited place of UK Bemani players.

So... buncha guys found a DDRX test cab and lied about it for a while.
Okay...
Sorry, I just don't like the song selection in DDRX, except perhaps for Horatio and the 5 mixes. Everything else just kinda sucks.
I don't like modern rewrites of songs I think are already good. But this is just me so don't think I'm saying anything other than an opinion.

I don't know about KONAMI UK but there's been quite a change in KONAMI FR and KONAMI GR attitude to DDR. It seems that they are trying to make this more popular, more widespread etc. they want more beginning players and new player base. they also seem to think that experienced players kind of betrayed them by starting to play ITG and they are like "let the experts play ITG, we will concentrate on new players interested in DDR". (and things like ITG is dead anyway so why should we care)
so well if konami would decide to test a machine in general audience I wouldn't be surprised. but well at the location test experienced players should be told that they are not welcome and told to come to ATEI to test the machine or something...

No, see, ITG is just a whole lot harder. I can understand that Konami is trying to draw in more fans. Their big issue is that a lot of how DDR is portrayed is: an elite arcade game that not a lot of people play.
C'mon, it's intimidating to see some kid who weighs more than you do go and get a AAA on some song you can't even visually read.
Maybe we did kind of betray (well, I didn't cause ITG is too hard for me in most cases) but ITG uses SM's core as a base, so what would you expect, right?
The DDR vets are just going to do it however they please. If they feel like playing DDR, they'll play that. The big advantage of ITG, however, is the custom songs feature. Konami won't allow it for some reason and it baffles me. If they allowed custom songs, a lot of the vets would bring their favorite ITG tunes and some of their own works and play on the DDR machines.
So far from, rather than betrayal the elites of the simulated dancing communities were looking for shelter, I guess...
But enough metaphors ^^'

KONAMI will not a custom song feature ever because of legal reasons. If anyone plays a song that it's not licensed for play on that machine, it would already be treading on copyright issues.

So they can claim "no liability". I mean, when you download music from the net, you either pay for it, or you've already bought to album via another media and just feel like downloading it.
So as long as they STIPULATE that custom songs are legally obtained and not banned, they can't be held liable (they can be accused, but there's little to no legal basis imho).
Hmm, but then that makes me ask the question: How did Roxor survive? If they had been sued over the custom song feature, wouldn't it have been taken out?

They didn't get sued for the custom song feature at all. As the R21 thing happened during the lawsuit was taking place or around that time.
And due to the RIAA being asses in the US, if you broadcast copyrighted music out to an audience, in this case ITG2 broadcasting the music out to an audience and the machine is not licensed to do that, that would technically be infringing broadcast issues in the RIAA's eyes.

Dam, what's the name of that one song by that one rapper guy RGH... The one on SN2 with the music video. GRR!!!
Oh, yeah, Chris Brown "Say Goodbye". I mean... oh, right, it's not on the arcade version.
Hrms...
Crap, I can't think of a way around this. Still, if the USER brought the copyrighted music, Konami couldn't be held responsible could they? They could stipulate that the music had to be YOURS and not copyrighted by someone else or something like that. RIAA could have its fits, but you can't go after EVERY kid who brings in a 90-second edit of "It's Getting Hot in Here".

Yeah, I shouldn't worry about it.
The bottom line is, if you play any sort of copyrighted music on a public ITG2 without a broadcast license, you can be held liable for it.

ya, I see where you are getting at with R21, but its basically the same thing as a karaoke machine. They dont license songs for use on those machines, but its ok to use them. Its the same thing for R21, except there is one owner of the song. Its also no different then a radio, its a one time deal. You hear the song, and that it, you dont own the song or anything.

Exactly. I mean, fine, you're encouraging people to break the rules, but only NOW is Konami going to obey the law?
I'm not saying they haven't, but why conform to a rule that wouldn't hurt you? Custom songs would encourage more players and you couldn't be held liable for it.
And again, RIAA couldn't take out EVERY kiddie who broadcasts a copyrighted song.

Believe me, if KONAMI allowed custom songs on DDR, they could get sued for it as they are encouraging infringing broadcast issues on a game that's still being continued. ITG2 is untouched as the game is already dead due to the lawsuit.
