seems like that speed up is enough to bump up the average bpm to the purported 171?

Is it just me or does the name "Over The "Period"" sounds so sexual.
If you are making a reference to the menstruation period, in which blood is discharged from the vagina then yes it's definitely just you.
Anyway that was quite a surprising gimmick. Seems like we have a lot of complicated BPM changes in store.

I feel like some gimmicky wubs are inbound.
I hope I'm wrong.
Unless it's Monkey Business-esque wubs cos that'd be awesome.

You know... The past few pages, people have brought up with their nerd math that if there's no 400 BPM speed up in OT"P", the song would be almost 2 & a half minutes or long or so. And Max brought up that the first 20 would likely be a marathon-esque song...
Maybe there is no 400 BPM speed up after all. Maybe the song actually is 2+ minutes long.
Of course, I could be wrong. But looking as the groove radars, I could very well be right.

I feel like its going to be similar to the contract sounding section of Valkyrie Dimension but instead of stops we get speed ups.

It seems to me that Over The "Period" is turning out to sound a lot like The legend of MAX, particularly the start of the 200 BPM section and the start of the section immediately after the 6ths where the BPM change happens. It doesn't sound like a remix though, more like an homage or tribute to The legend of MAX.
A couple of screengrabs from the latest video...
I won't be surprised if, on the higher difficulties, instead of a solid freeze for each of these whole or half measures, we get some shorter freezes with some quick triplets going into each next jump, or some jumps holding one freeze while hitting several taps immediately after.
BTW, excellent work on trying to get through this song, Dr. D! I'm surprised though because it looks like you're the only one who's really working hard at trying to do this.

I'm done today.
I tried Max. Difficult and it just was just too hard playing on Wave without knowing that chart.
I almost left the arcade early, I was feeling like shit today but I decided to try the basic chart anyways before leaving.
I surprised myself by beating the record by quite a bit.
New gimmick reached.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but it looks like that pair of freeze arrows you missed are on the beat of the song, just that speedup was there to throw you off. You can hear the snare where the arrows are supposed to be hit.
Also, is that the Summary BGM I hear in that 150 section?

yeah, it's just that no one heard the song before so of course you wouldn't know when to time that arrow.
also the 150 BPM section sounds more like something MAX-styled.

Here's a lot more math incoming based on the Groove Radar. Hopefully the information I bring is of use.
I'm putting it in a code section to reduce the vast amount of space it will take up.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCHs503UMAEmt4O.jpg
From this I think we can conclude that the song is going to be decently long and that there's going to be a Freezy section later on. Knowing an estimated Stream Value, the higher the Max Combo, the longer the song is going to have to be.
I'm putting it in a code section to reduce the vast amount of space it will take up.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCHs503UMAEmt4O.jpg
Stream seems to be around 60 (we'll give ±5 points for estimation's sake)
To estimate the song length from the Stream value, we'll need to know the Max Combo. We can use the formula for scoring a song to find the Max Combo+# of Freezes.
Step Score (for Marvelous and OK) = 1,000,000 / (Number of Steps + Number of Freezes)
From Dr. D's videos we can conclude that each Marvelous is worth 2320 points. We can estimate the total number of Steps+Freezes (represented by n) with this information.
2320=1,000,000 / n
n~431.034
Number of steps+freezes~ 431 total steps+Freezes
We know there's at least 14 Freeze Arrows so there has to be at most 417 combo. There's bound to be more because of the relatively high Freeze Value of the song.
Up to Dr.D's 281k video, there are 10.5 beats of Freeze for the first 75 beats, which is about 14% so far. Using the equation for Freeze, we can determine the total percentage of the beats that should be covered by Freeze. The Freeze Value is 100 (out of a possible 200) when the total length of the Freeze Arrows is 35% of number of beats of the song. The Freeze Value looks to be 70-80 so:
70% of 35 = 24.5% of the total beats of song
80% of 35 = 28% of the total beats of song
This means that there has to be many more freezes to boost the percentage of Freeze. More freezes means lower Max Combo.
Now we can use the Stream Value to help estimate a range for the song length.
Comparative Stream Values
Boom Boom Dollar Expert's Stream is known: it's 60 and it looks visually similar to Over The Period Basic

Formula for Stream: Stream = Notes Per Minute / 3 , when d<300 (and consequently, when Stream will be 100 or less)
Over The Period Basic's Stream 55~65
55=d/3filler space60=d/3filler space65=d/3
fid=165filler spaced=180filler spaced=195
Finding number of Notes per minute: d=60(Number of notes)/Song length
Solve for Song Length: s = 60(Max Combo)/(Notes Per Minute)
For the purposes of this estimation, we'll say that the Max Combo for OT"P" Basic is 380
If Max combo is 380 (allowing for 51 Freeze Arrows)
s = 60(380)/165. (55 Stream/380 combo)
s~138 seconds
s = 60(380)/180 (60 Stream/380 combo)
s~126 seconds
s = 60(380)/195 (65 Stream/380 combo)
s~116 seconds
To estimate the song length from the Stream value, we'll need to know the Max Combo. We can use the formula for scoring a song to find the Max Combo+# of Freezes.

Did anyone else notice the slight similarity between the background video during the 150 bpm section and Maxx Unlimited's bg and jacket?

@mf32892 That freezy section is probably the part that Dr. D is at already.
@ohaiimian Come to think of it, it does bear resemblance... That also proves blastlocket's assumption correct because as Silverhawke stated, it sounds like a MAX song. The background video looks like the MAXX UNLIMITED background. This song does pay homage to the MAX series. Cool!

@hypnoticmarten It could be, but there's got to be a LOT of Freeze arrow length. I guess we won't know until we get there.
Now that I tap out the part after the 12th notes using a BPM tapper (110 - 167 combo) , it's actually 160 BPM. It's not 150 like we thought. This also seems to support the idea of a MAX tribute (MAXX UNLIMITED was 320 at the end)
Also, that next speed-up doesn't feel like the same 150 BPM tempo; it feels slightly faster. By tapping it out with an application, it's more like timing 160 BPM or a multiple thereof. Whatever it is, I don't think it's 150 BPM anymore.
I'll try figuring out the BPMs more accurately of the part where the new gimmick arose with Sony Vegas right now

Partially blind speculation, partially a "what if" kind of thing, but let's pretend that by PFCing OT"P", we'll get another new song. I just listened to the tune Go Beyond!! and thought, "That might be a fitting unlock. You've gone Over The "Period", now Go Beyond!!". Besides, 16th streams at 200 BPM plus some other tricky business might make for our first 20, and what about this supposed 400 BPM section in OT"P"? Well, they might just double the BPM of GB and make that song go at 400 instead...
Or OT"P" could be ES in RDi 3rd phase and GB could be EES, but we're starting to get into ridiculous territory now...

Actually, if any of those two had to be a 20, it'd be Go Beyond!! because it's pretty obvious they would double the speed and add a continuous barrage of 8th note crossovers without rest at 400 bpm for over 20-40 seconds.

That BG clip is actually from the DDR 2010-2011 Wii and PS3 games and briefly used in EGOISM 440s and Revolutionary Addicts BG Video.
