DDR II & hottest party 5 (Wii) (International)

I for one wouldn't care if they gave us a blank theme as long as they give us music and charts to go with it.

Do you realize that by saying characters don't matter, it gives us more of a reason to keep bringing it up and to keep flipping out over it?

Stepcharts and good music (and in the case of arcade games, playable cabinets) are the highest priority. No one is saying otherwise.

But the fact that you guys keep going on and on about how we're wrong for giving a damn about what goes in our games is driving me insane. I refuse to buy DDR 2010 because the graphics are atrocious. My primary motivation for buying DDR II is because the characters were stolen from the PS3. But obviously there needs to be good music and junk on it. Although in the case of Street Master Mode, it really didn't matter what songs and charts were on that game, I only bought it for the story mode because that's how much it mattered to me. That said, I and probably Fairy Red and whoever else appears to be "wrong" would agree that it'd be stupid to sacrifice quality music and stepcharts just for characters, even if the small audience of chara-addicts would give it a shot.

But this isn't about having one or the other; it's about having both.

An opinion isn't wrong just because it isn't the majority. The only reason Fairy Red looks "obsessed" is because she is one of only people who will speak up for the characters she likes at all.

I don't believe she ever said it was top priority to have in the game; it's just what matters to her. That. Isn't. Wrong.
And as long as one person cares, they aren't "insignificant." Ugh. Freaking cringed so much at all these posts...

I would love to let this argument die at least until the game is officially out, but I care about these cute little dancers that add personality to the game and how they allow for a little customization. I just went over this a couple pages ago; I'm not ranting it again. xP

I kind of think the HP characters are screwed in this game. I am just praying they come back in the next game for the Wii because that would just be the right thing to do.

Because everything gets pirated to Stepmania anyway, they would need more than good charts to have a great audience. It seems that way, I guess... see, this is a theory, and a theory could very well be wrong. Not an opinion.

You will probably never care about characters. You could at least leave us alone instead of saying you're right and we're wrong, because we aren't.

Well, that's all I got. Back to fangirling over Zero and playing DDR X until this game comes out.

I think this is the first time I actually agree with you, although I like having official music videos.

The only characters I need in DDR games are, well REAL PEOPLE. Do I really want to play a game with Rage talking to Emi about getting new shoes and going to the arcade to dance together in his new shoes by playing a song on EASY mode, then I'm supposed to pretend to be one of those cartoon characters and care about that...???

I'd rather the story be, I bought new shoes and I want to go to the arcade to try them out and I take my wife and we play songs on Hard mode... Both stories are the same but one makes ALOT more sense than the other and is more enjoyable.

However I will admit that I thought Mario Mix benefitted from having the dancing characters and a story mode, but the SONGS actually made sense in the story.

Anyways, I personally like the characters. Yes, they aren't a necessary part of the game but they do add an element that is distinctly DDR to the game. It's comparable to the characters in IIDX in my opinion.

Why are we arguing about characters? I like them, but they're not my primary reason for getting a DDR game. It's pretty much what the "majority" of the members here want in a DDR game = Good music + quality stepcharts. Because honestly, if the game were to be more "flashy" than quality gameplay, it would just be a christmas ornament to hang up on the Christmas tree.

Sure, the characters make the game feel a bit more...something. Plus they paved the way to some great photoshoop's back in the day *remembers the "Rage you can't DO that!" photoshop* but the characters are just there for the same reason as characters are there in a Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Rock Band, any other music game. It's just for show. If the characters added something to the gameplay of the game, then yes characters WOULD be more considered in the game than in previous times, but really it's much more so just to look at and see them flailing around at 400BPM whenever FAXX is played and laugh and laugh and laugh...

I'm starting to think that Konami is maturing the Wii series because for all intents and purposes it is THE console series now. The main CS series of games was on PlayStation consoles, Konami dabbled with the Xbox but don't show any more interest in them than they do the PS3. Since the first HOTTEST PARTY the Wii games have taken off, in Japan the only DDR games released at all recently are on the Wii. I wager this is where the series will go and stay. So I can kinda see why they swapped out the characters.

Do you consider open discussions the same as argument? Do you understand stating opinions and the reason for your opinion is nothing more than that?

An argument is more personal, and less civilized. Do you have issues with people who you don't agree with or do you like the fact that everyone is different and the world is filled with variety?

I like characters as well, it gives you something to unlock or to use points on in the game after you bought all the songs, it's the story mode from DDR X that ruined the whole game for me. I played it for maybe an hour at most and I bought the game the day it came out, I couldn't stand Street Master mode at all and it's been on my shelf since still unplayed. I have all the DDR X songs in StepMania and I MUCH prefer to play that way.

Onto a new topic, I'm willing to bet that TЁЯRA's new song ЁVOLUTIΦN will be in this game, hopefully with PV. They've been hinting that it will be in an upcoming BEMANI game, and we've got TЁЯRA songs already confirmed for most of the upcoming ones. REFLEC BEAT has DIORAMATIC MOMENT, jubeat's got THIS NIGHT and IIDX will probably get LETHEBOLG ～双神威に斬り咲けり～. Which really only leaves X3/DDR II and pop'n 20. Since pop'n doesn't support PVs, I'd say DDR is the frontrunner for the song. Plus NAOKI and jun obviously care more about DDR than the other BEMANI games.

I said I'm not picky about stepcharts. D8; That doesn't mean I think they're unimportant. The thing for me is that I couldn't care less how a stepchart flows as long as I find it fun and not a chore. But I'd rather see characters I like dancing, too, instead of music videos or a generic background. OTL Maybe I should keep my mouth shut from now on, though. Blah.

Onto what Pie said...a new TERRA song is given, isn't it? D8 Every Wii game since HP2 has had a TERRA song. It should have both long and short versions, duh.

A new TERRA song is basically given, yes, but it doesn't tell us WHAT TERRA song will be put in. After all, last year they just gave us one of their songs from the first album. I'm simply suggesting ЁVOLUTIΦN probably has a good chance of getting in.
