For heaven's sake, NO, we do NOT need a 20! Like I've said several times before, we NEEEEED to stabilize the field of 19s, first. Because right now, both of our 19s on singles are just plain WTF. I do not want to see what a 20 will be like if PRevo challenge and VDO are any indication of things. If Revolutionary Addict must be a high difficulty, it needs to be a 19 without the obscene gimmicks we've seen in our current 19s. (Obviously with the exception of Possession doubles)

can someone please recap how the ES/star system works? What do yellow, green, and blue mean? Does FC change the colors? Does 3 or 5 stage matter? Thanks

In order to get to Extra Stage, one player has to accumulate 9 stars. One stage gives you 3 stars maximum.

AAA = 3 white stars (FC or not FC)
AA = 2 yellow stars
A = 1 yellow star
B-D = 1 blue star
FullCombo = adds 1 green star

if you got AAA MFC/PFC/GFC, no green star will be added, cuz you already got 3 stars maximum in each stage.

Any difficulty can do, even if you play all beginners with that requirement can get you to Extra stage. In Extra and Encore Extra Stage, Star system is disabled, and retains the original requirement for getting Extra Encore stage by passing at least AA grade and playing using specified Extra Stage song.

In Extra Stage, you can still choose difficulty and song. In Encore Extra Stage, song wheel and difficulty are locked. You will be stuck to highlighted EES song on expert difficulty.

Don't be confused about the colors. They have no interesting implications about them. Only the number of stars that count.

So in order to get ES, you have to play AT LEAST AA FC (not AA only) per stage, otherwise, you're failed to get ES. This applies to game set to 3 stages only.

One more question for those in East Asia, whats up with the Freeze arrows? It seems like if an arrow is rapidly firing from normal weight (sensors aren't sensitive enough / panel is not seated well?), then we immediately get a NG on the freeze. I've bounced up and down to the quarter beat and most of the time am fine on left side, but right == instant combo break.

That's actually really inaccurate.
There's also a red star you can get for clearing a chart equal to or above a given level set by your My Groove Radar title. It starts at 6 for the lowest title, and increases by one for each title up to 20 for the highest title. And, once per day, you can get a dark blue Daily Star.

Additionally, to progress to Extra Stage, you need to have above 39 points in your 9 stars, where dark blue stars are worth 8, white and green 5, yellow 4, blue 3, and red 0.

Once you're actually at Extra Stage, which chart difficulties you can play is determined by the number of stages and the difficulties of the charts you played. On SP, is always accessible, and your difficulties need to add up to Stages*6+1 or more to play , Stages*10+1 or more for , and Stages*13+1 or more for . DP is the same, but is always available because of the lack of .

I have no idea where you're getting that from. It sounds more like Tag took the 210bpm end of London Evolved B, scaled it back to 170bpm and made a typical song of his out of it. Could be good, could be meh, Tag's a pretty safe composer anyways so I don't think the rest of the song will be that surprising.
