Not quite. For this year, Japan is split into East and West; 7 from each go onto a second round where 1-2 from each region will advance to the finals. So Japan gets 2-4 spots, which is still kind of silly given that every other region only gets one.

By that logic, wouldn't they have banned Korea long ago?

Still, it's nice to know that we still have Konami's attention, at least. I wouldn't decide this game immediately- Chris's victory last year was somewhat close, and if FEFEMZ didn't mess up that much on PARANOiA Revolution, there's a chance he would have won. FEFEMZ and Chris are pretty equally matched from what I've seen. I can't wait to see what happens.

Chris auto-quals as the defending champion. I think the US gets another slot besides Chris.

That's why I'm sad, because they could have 2 spots for the US apart from Chris. Knowing that the States (and FEFEMZ in KR) are in another level compared to the rest of the regions.

Chris speaks my mind here. I honestly have no idea why we can't just have a "top ___ scores advance to finals" format. Could be Top 6. Could be Top 8. Could be Top 10. Just let the player's skill determine everything, rather then whether they're playing in Japan or not. There's going to be quite a few American players who beat the scores set by the qualifying Japanese players and yet won't qualify, and it's really insane

EDIT: And if "travelling expenses" is the issue; you're KONAMI. You're making ALL of your decisions based on making more money. You can't tell me "making more money" wasn't the reason for making a mockery of your best IPs by turning them into pachinko machines. You can afford $10-15k for people representing your game. Fuck off.

That makes a lot more sense. My personal suspicion is that the high amount of Americans in the final round might be part of Konami's reasoning for this. The other part being good ol' fashioned creator provincialism. I'm finding this kinda sketchy now anyway.

Also, as far as i know, Yuuki is not working directly with Konami, with a permanent contract, so that's why is credited in the song
